I think it's safe to say that the town windows will be known as the hallmark failure of Heroes VI if they are not replaced with full town screens.
This is one experiment that should never have been attempted.

Indeed, seeing the town screens in beta... well it just made me want to cry. Especially since all other feature seem to be worked out pretty good. I am afraid heroes 6 is going to be left stuck in mediocrity because of senseless changes like this.

Ugh, this is woeful, I wasn't to sure how bad it would be, it has definitely taken me by surprise, i was searching for an option or button which would maybe make the town window bigger or even interactive, but to my dismay, it could not be found. I am really disappointed with the town screens in the beta. I am guessing it suppose to be faster and more efficient to tend to a modern gamers needs? It sure as hell isn't aesthetically pleasing, which is a damn shame.
I always found a towns interactivity and visuals to be an important part of the game which made Heroes what it is to me. This just does not feel as good as it could be.

At least they could've strived to make them nice, but hell:
The inferno town screen is the most retarded one. The wall in the back of the city is a jpg which moves along with the camera. Poor, poor work.

Yes, these new images are ridiculous and meaningless.
However, I prefer watching exact stats instead of fancy images, so would remove them totally. Still, I could find no way to learn such simple thing as a weekly creature growth.
No AA is a general issue, makes this game looks not impressive at all in comparison to H5. Sure, there are few shaders and soft shadows, but shadowmaps are not present. Come on, it's now present in every simplest game released.

I think it's more a question of "can they finish the changes before release" than "will they change them". The latter ship sailed several months ago.

Dear Gods, part of me still wants to believe these sketches are nothing but placeholders. A hint of confirmation that they're at least planning to do something about them could provide some relief.
To paraphrase Cato's motto: "Furthermore I think town windows must be destroyed".

So, they're releasing only some half-butt version of the game, which they will improve upon post release? I'd rather have them postpone the game several months more to fix up issues like these, before they release it.
In its current shape, I can't see myself playing through it more than once, before reverting back to HoMM III & V.

My main problem with the town screens are that they are way to small and not detailed enough.
All you see are the fortress, the wall, the two special building and two town portals.
Where are the creature dwellings, the tavern, the marketplace etc.?
The Sanctury is the most squeezed one, almost not detail is detectable.

I made a comparsion image and é voilà the Heroes VI town screen is even smaller than the Heroes III one. What a shame.

Oh dear...
The Haven town is cut & pasted from a childrens' hobby book.
The Necropolis town looks like something out of a toy commercial.
Inferno, Sanctuary and Stronghold are taken from the claymation production "Wallace & Gromit goes to Ashan".
I think I'll just continue to associate 2.5D with Donkey Kong Country.

Oh God. I hope they remove this joke of a "town tab" completely from the final release. Not only it's completely useless as it is right now, but it concentrates such an amount of butt-ugly, it kills all the beauty this game has so far. I'd rather have nothing than this atrocity.
[edit] yeah, the placeholder looked better. At least it had a drop of atmosphere in it.

I think fort being 50% of the town window makes it look even smaller than it actually is.
It is more of a fort view now than town view.
