The Lady Gaga appreciation thread

There's a lot of Gaga-hate going around, so here's the official HC Lady Gaga appreciated thread!

A lady who can wear a Kermit dress [or should we call it a frog frock ] demands our utter respect! (And that's not even mentioning you-know-what.)

So, the new album is out - what do you think: Is she The Queen, or is the whole thing just Scheisse?

Myself, I can't help but be fascinated with the girl. She can make music that sounds as awful as Judas and still make me like it. Oh yes, and she absolutely rocks live.

So bring out your most Gaga-liceous costumes and join the party!

Oh my she looks ridiculous there. She proves my point that she looks like a complete twat. That's not attractive, it's not funny, it's not entertaining, it's bloody ridiculous And you're kidding yourself with this topic aren't you? Might as well make a The Beatles appreciation thread or Deep Purple appreciation thread. May as well make an appreciation thread for every single artist out there. Yeaaah.

No, because neither The Beatles or Deep Purple are relevant in terms of todays culture and society. In 20 years when we look back, I'm convinced Gaga will stand as one of the icons of the 2000's pop culture, just like Madonna and Michael Jackson do for the 80's and Britney does for the 90's.

LOL wtf? The Beatles aren't relevant in today's society and culture? Nearly every single artist out there owes music today, in some part, to The Beatles. They're mentioned all the time. They're hailed as the greatest and most influential band in the world. That's something Xerox would say.

Are you actually serious in what you said? I mean come on. I can understand Deep Purple but that was just an example. Let me make more: The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Michael Jackson....do you think that none of them are relevant in today's society and culture? Music is basically the way it is because of bands like that and so many more so before you start spouting absolute rubbish maybe think a little more and maybe realise that maybe you wouldn't have Gaga if it weren't for bands such as these and countless others that she may have been influenced by.

That is all.

And Beatles wouldn't be there for Elvis, and Elvis wouldn't be there for ... God, I don't even know who went before Elvis.

Anyway, that's besides the point, the point is that Gaga is what defines the trends today, and for all the good Beatles did with their yellow submarines and whatever wicked transports, they're not. I don't recall them recording any records in recent times either.

Gaga, on the other hand, calls the shots. She has like a gazillion followers on facebook and twitter, she was the first to hit a billion views on youtube, and I tell you, meat is going to be fashion before you even know it.

Your arguments are pathetic. Of course they're not bloody recording anything today. What I AM SAYING is that music would be significantly different and you would NOT have Lady Gaga without The Beatles and other such artists. So before you say that they're not important or whatever nonsense you or Xerox has to say, you're dead wrong and I will argue about it all day with you because, like I've said, you wouldn't have these crap artists today (like all music is crap today btw) if The Beatles weren't there.

And because someone has a lot of viewers and **** doesn't actually mean it's necessarily good. How many of those followers of Gaga would be under 16 or so? Not exactly worth much of an opinion. She only gets the amount of attention she does because there's not really anything else out there, not that she is good, but she gains more attention by doing ridiculous **** like she does.

And The Beatles did actually start trends. Go research about that time period and all. kthxbai.

Well I for one don't like Lady GaGa for making such a show of herself. I understand marketing and pr but what Gaga does has been done a million times before in Harajuku not to mention that her "style" has long ago stopped being extravagant (it was never new mind you) and has simply become ridiculous. But because GaGa does it it can't be retarded it's some sort of fashionstatement, avantgarde, daring, GAGALICIOUS and what not. And that's just sad if you ask me.

I can't say much about her music, it's catchy and from what I hear I think it's pretty mainstream but you know it can't be that abysmal. It's just that GaGa makes such a big deal about herself (or perhaps her fans/management without her doing anything against it in the end it's the same thing really) and even the most trivial insignificant and unoriginal (I can't stress this point enough. GaGa isn't all that new lol) thing she does becomes blown waaaaay out of proportion simply because we're talking about lady GaGa. That's so pathetic in my opinion and it's the main reason I don't like her she's quite pretentious. Incredibly pretentious...

And that's what is such a big fascination about her. All these people who feel "different" (and everyone starting as early as 10 thinks he/she's a super unique missunderstood snowflake that struggles against the conformist world of bland sameyness) rally to her because she has made herself this Herald of "uniqueness" with her whole Monster thing making all her followers her "little monsters". It's a genius PR move (well not THAT genius but it's smart), it's why GaGa is one of the gallionfigures of Gays, Lesbians, Queers and whatnot because she's supposed to be this daring Fighter who sticks it TO THE MAN! A not unsignificant charm of Lady GaGa is this whole "underdog" flair, this whole "she's different and so am I, she gets it" thing. It's completely unfouded if you think about it and if wearing a meat suit and having your cd cover be a hybrid of yourself and a bike is all it takes these days to convince people that you really are different... well I think that says enough on it own...

Gaga is def Different & entertaining to alot of people (Not me personally)

Of course music Genra & songs are Complimented to where music is today, but there is different kinds of music & it does not nessarily have to be the beatles etc.

John Lennon always looked up to Chuck Berry when he grew up.

Every artist are unique in their own way.
She will be remembered for her awkward freak of nature.

Each era the Music does change.

I do disagree that there will be no Rock or Rap etc.
Rock had to be formed some way.
Every artist looks up to someone.
May he be a rocker, rapper, country singer etc.

You're arguments are completely besides the point. I didn't say Beatles didn't start trends in their days. They certainly did. Point is their days are not today. While music todays draws on the work of The Beatles, they no longer define the trends of today. And Madonna might not have been there for The Beatles, and Gaga might not have been there for Madonna, but there's nothing wrong in that. In 20 years we'll probably say someone wouldn't have been there for Gaga.

And a statement that 'all music is crap today' clearly doesn't have any objective value. You might not like any of today's music, which is perfectly legit, but that still makes the statement completely subjective. I personally find interesting music also in today, and I find Gaga to be interesting in her own way - perhaps not innovative, but interesting.

I like Gaga because she's fairly good at entertaining and ALWAYS creates drama wherever she goes. I do, however, not like that she often exaggerates while doing so, which makes her more annoying than interesting imo. She defo hasn't understood the meaning of "less is more", that one.

About her music:  Basically the same thing: Entertaining, yet so annoying simultaneously. She actually *CAN* sing and the lyrics of her songs are so lolawful they crack me up... but the rhythm and music destroys whatever like I have for it though... so cringe </3

I do find Gaga to be polarizing and a try-hard... but I do think that is how she wants herself to be seen.

lol @ Corribus' post

the latest album is pretty bland and I hear a lot of it echoing monsters ball or whatever the name of her second album is. She was reaching for the best album of the decade and fell mighty short.

However

I do especially like the way she's only 25 and yet she's already trumped Madonna in every way possible.  For that reason she holds a special place in my heart.

Everyone though Frank Zappa was weird at the time, but it never made him any less of a major influence on some people. People have said the exact same thing about Devo and many other artists that sound niche at the time but became hugely popular ever since.

A lot of what the Beatles started was influenced by the rock'n'roll music of the 1950s, which beforehand was influenced by blues music from even earlier.
