That's lazy and dumb. What next - the army will immediately teleport to the hero so you don't have to pick it from the towns?
Moreover, you have all of your population available everywhere where you can recruit, at any point, all the time. No weak spots in the defenses. Damn, is this still a war game? And what happens if the enemy captures a town where you haven't bought the population - does its share disappear from the common "pool"?

It does solve some problems, but creates others. Okey, you don't need caravans or many heroes to transport creatures to your main hero or castle. I like that.
But on the other hand, guarding towns is more important now than ever, because of the town conversion. So you want something to guard your towns, so you have to spread your creatures across the towns very often. I don't like that.
So in the end I don't know how much time this actually saves us...

Actually the town defense becomes irrelevant. You can "evacuate" the population from an endangered town which is certain to fall even if you buy it by just recruiting it in another town/fort. Magic... That's too lame for me, sorry.

So is this still a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements, or an RPG with tactical turn-based combat?

I must say that I am very suprised at how messy the beta forums etc are. The whole beta process has been so messy, so I think I can safely call myself a Blizzard fanboy now without receiving death threats.
Any other company such as Blizzard would have a number of sticky threads such as these in their beta forum:
1. LIST OF KNOWN BUGS - Its going to be total chaos if thousands of people keep reporting the same bugs all the time.
2. WE WANT FEEDBACK ON THIS - They are working on something specific and need more testing on it, so we aren't testing stuff that isn't relevant to the developers.
3. ORDER - I think its chaos in the forums atm. There should be one stickied HAVEN thread, one NECROPOLIS thread, one INFERNO thread, one STRONGHOLD thread and one SANCTUARY thread.
I was in the Starcraft 2 beta and wow, this feels like total chaos compared to it. In Starcraft 2, there were one forum for each race and one for modding since you were actually able to test the editor in their beta. In Cataclysm, the Worgen and Goblin races ahd their own beta forum, as had the new zones. UbiHoles beta forums is just a mess atm. It feels like they won't take this beta seriously.
4. DEVELOPER INTERACTION - There does not seem to be any. In the Starcraft 2 beta, the developers would actually listen to the fans and interact with them through the forum etc. If Blizzard made H6, then I doubt very much that they would just close their eyes and ignore all the huge concerns about the town windows.
Instead, they would be making a stickied post with developer responses and have an explaination for why they made town windows and why they can't/wont change them.
And finally, I really really do not understand who they are going to balance the game and then not let us test some real multiplayer or ATLEAST duel heroes. Its ridiculous. Who plays competetive hotseat?
I should also mentiont hat there was actually a TECH SUPPORT FORUM in their betas AND there was almost a patch every single day.

For Point 4, in what way do you think that the developers have NOT been receiving the concerns about the Town Windows?

My radio receiver receives many things that I'm not listening to. There.

Which in case, they received it.

It's a perfectly reasonable explanation, really.
The Psychic & Magic elementals are peeved that Ubihole neglected them so now they're taking their wraith out on us. Well, you.

Actually, towns become less important, because you only need to visit them in order to capture them. With instant-troop-transports, no Mage Guilds, etc, there's exactly zero reason to ever visit a town twice (provided it remains under your control).
The more I read and learn about the game, the less I like it. Resource diversity reduced, lack of proper townwindows, magical insta-troop-transport, only 5 factions and the new spell / skill system, etc ... if they were looking for a core game to define a modern version of HoMM, they had it (a lot) closer with HoMM V. All this sounds like they're alienating the fanbase from the game.
I've pre-ordered the boxed CE version (so unfortunately no beta-key for me), so I will play it, but I get the same feeling here as I had when HoMM IV (which sucked coconuts, imho) was released, with respect to HoMM III (brilliant, imho).

I'd do that even if I were in your shoes, besides it is clearly reacting to your negative attitude - can't you see? Plus you never learnt how evil the conflux was back then. Its evil is not to be underestimated.

Someone named DaventryGnome wrote on Ubisoft forum: "...and for the love of god change the Haven artwork (seriously, those buildings look like they're made out of cardboard)!"
Exactly. It's a toyish- instead of powerful-looking town. Too simplistic, clean-cut, cute Barbie-house.

That's the part I'm talking about. If someone takes over your town they can convert it, so even if you take it back again it might be a completely different town. That's why it's more important than ever to defend your town. In previous games, the worst thing that could happen was losing your capitol (apart from income, dwellings and such). If you were lucky your opponent could even have built a couple more buildings for you!
And don't forget that the hero has to visit the town for reputation and respec.

Or... you could just convert it back which isn't that expensive.

The main menu screen looks great now, and I really really hope that they can make a full screen Haven town out it.
Bug found: If you choose to start as player 3 (or 2?) on Broken Alliance as Inferno with Lamia, then the game crashes.
If you choose Sanctuary and their female hero, then you start as Necropolis with a Necromancer that has her name.
