Third age total war is running so ****ing well, it's almost unbelievable how good the modding community is, then at the same time, they are driven by an undaunting determination to make the game better, it's almost a certainty that something good will come of it.

Very well done, playing as the free peoples of Eriador, going to unify arnor, consolidate my power and the Numenorian blood lines, then I'm going to reclaim the south kingdom from the yoke of the stewards.

I fired it up the last time as Harad; wanted to see what the bad guys are like. Gondor must be very strong because I'm in a slugfest over a couple of towns and yet...I know the real war is at Osgiliath between them and Mordor.

Watch out for those Misty Mountain Orcs if you play as the High Elves. There's has to be some sort of respawning going on near Moria.

I agree about this Mod...it's done very well. I'd guess their Modding community is second to none.

I've been playing as the free peoples, been marshalling an army, every 'deep' gundabad orc territory i get, I trade with the high elves for an Arnorian territory, or for money. The elves are my shield against the orcs of the north and east while I consolidate my power and check isengard's advance. I had to break my alliance to mordor so that I can ally myself with gondor, (the nazgul sounded genuinly sad) it's like the 80th turn now and I think minas tirith fell (not sure about osgiliath). But I've reclaimed all former Arnorian territories, just waiting for my population to rise in Annuminas so that I can build the house of kings.

Hmmm, what version are you playing? I ask because Gondor has always seemed too strong to be out from anywhere in 80 days. My brother said he thought there had been a later Mod than the one I have and I think I remember something in the works a while back.

Btw, if you've not already seen; also at TW-center, they now have a 4th-age version and another Mod called the Witch King. I am always amazed at these guys dedication.

I'm playing the 3.1, and MT has like 3 units of orcs, I wanted to sell them map info or military access (it's one of the ways I make 'quick cash)

I just got a new PC though, so I'll need to re-download it.

Egad, that explains things; I have the older Mod. Did you play the 2.0 version before going to 3.1? If so, what's the diplomacy like in 3.1?

If you've not already, it might be worth a look here before setting up the new PC., there's a new release:

3rd-age  3.2

Looks like I can play a new 3rd-age before trying out the 4th.

Btw, do you like NWN2 and have you tried the Rise of Sauron Mod for that game?

Because I have only played RTW, I'll just stick to it till the end.

The Romans are my favourites. They are strong warriors and if you know how to play with them, you'll conquer the Dacians and the Scythians with only one army (like I did 4 or 5 years ago).

A tip: Do the missions that Senate gives you - you need that money. But when you get a good army, go and start killing it's people with the assassins to weaken them. Also remember to bribe the Senates army 'cause it's soldiers are good and are easy to bribe (at least for me).

Personally, I played the roman game, I set all my settlements (roman ones to normal; some to low tax) while I set the tribal frontier ones to very high, I got the love of the people and my generals held the highest seats in the senate (pontifex maximus I think). I fielded massive armies and marched them to all corners, had to rely on a ****load of mercenaries for the longer campaigns (general campaigns) I've had several active legions, but always left one at home just in-case I needed quick reinforcements or if I was attacked by sea. (could never set up proper sea defenses as the Julii)

I played with other factions (especially Macedonia) and I annihilated all my foes, trouble was I never had to adapt to enemies, just the same tactic, which got boring. (unlike medieval, when I got totally raped initially by to mongols due to their unique army composition)

Try playing with the Parthians (if you haven't already). They are a challenge to play with because of their poor start, but still I did some good work with them. If you can win with them, you're the king.

I prefer the Seleucids.

If you like Rome: Total war so much, then you should really try out Europa Barbarorum, it's a very beautiful mod, packed with information and detail, (a little too much if you ask me, information that is)

Unit models lack sharpness, but it more than makes up for it in effects and animation.

Been downloading sub-mods, tirelessly for Third Age, most of them work, though I screwed my game over a few times (finally made backups of Third Age >.> ) But for the life of me, I still can't get Boromir's plate armour mod to work .

I played sauromatae not too long ago and everything was fine and dandy, until I saw a Phlavan powerstack on my eastern border, while my entire army was up in the crimea.
Very embarassing. Apparently the forums advise you to kill Pahlava first.

I wouldn't call myself a hardcore Total War fan, but I play MTW and TATW here and there. I also played Rome for some time. Anyway, I wanted to note Creative Assembly announced they'll make Rome: Total War 2. Here's a link: http://www.totalwar.com/en_us/romeII/

And a few pics...

I hope it will be even better than original, but...

I have a feeling new Total Wars are worse than earlier. Even MTW had dumb AI. E. g: AI NEVER attacked islands! That's why England is not the most challenging faction. In original RTW, AI even avoids possible ambushes!

The Portuguese attacked my England and Ireland a few times. And as venice I had to have a strong navy cause the Portuguese and Sicily would send fully armoured knights to my island settlements (I hoped to sink the ships before they land, 3-4 groups of knights sieging my remote settlements is not something I want to have to worry about)

I didn't really care about naval combat till I got to play venice, and it's sorely needed. (can't wait for Rome 2 total war, Trireme naval combat <3)

It was about time, wasn't it? Rome is definitely the most innovative (and the best overall) Total War in my book and the setting is my favourite so I'm certainly looking forward to seeing this thing released.
Edit: the trailer would fit a RPG far more than a TBS/RTS hybrid but I must admit that the release release date is nicely shown.
