EDIT:
Hahaha everything in that game pointed towards you winning... I checked like every unit of mine and it says "losing" on everyone.
Then your general gets stabbed a bit and everything just falls apart in seconds.
The battles can really turn quickly in this game.

I was under the impression that when enemy ships surrender they 'join' you. This happened with an enemy fire kaboyata (sooo badass) with it and my fleet I managed to completely destroy an enemy fleet (they all surrendered with crew intact)
But after the battle all it did is just let them go, which is so silly as far as I'm concerned. Why would you let ships go when they've surrendered?
Edit: While reading for info about sea warfare (I admit, I walked into this blindly) I found this:

Hey I just bought that as well.
I don't find 'em too awesome though... splitting up your army too much is usually a bad idea, and ya can't deploy your general too far ahead.
Might be good for seizing key buildings early on... maybe even a bit cheap. Get some Yaris to seize the buildings and the enemy can't rush his cav to stop you since you'll spear them.
The awesomest thing in that pack is the Bad Omen retainer though. I combine it with a Metsuku Inspector to give enemy Ashigaru -1 morale at first, and then an additional -1 when I rally next to them.
Yeah, flee you little basterds.

My god I'm starting to master naval combat, vying for naval supremacy over the Mori has been (and is) simply gut-wrenching, but I managed to assimilate a few vagrant mori fire-bomb ships, and using them I managed to win a decisive naval battle (mori were blocking a major trade route with one of their fleets) after destroying that fleet my navy was very heavily damaged, but I managed to survive another battle where I gained some much needed ships in spoils, after retrofitting my fleets I can now easily protect myself, I also split the firebomb ships between my two fleets.

Some lovely games yesterday, I was spared from having to fight pirates, instead I had fire cavalry constantly harassing me, and I mean CONSTANTLTY, I look away for one second and AD charged them into my general. (i was micromanaging my ninjas >.> )
I <3 Kisho Ninjas, while Ad rammed my general in the ass, I had my ninjas stealthily doing to same to his. ^^

I spread 'em out so I don't get hit by archers so hard, and then I use ranked fire so the ones who have fired duck down to let the line behind them attack. I can see how I should've formed up to better attack when you got close though, totally forgot that.
I was experimenting since I've never used matchlocks before, and I felt like trying out those ultra-expensive hand mortars: not worth it. I lost, naturally.

Just noticed that Hattori Kisho Ninjas not only cost more, but are worse than normal ninjas (less ammo) this can't be right.
Edit: Woot! Won my first multiplayer battle, (avatar conquest is hard since you don't have any units unlocked) though the battle was pretty poor, both sides fielded a sizeable ashigaru force (yari and bowmen) but I had two groups of samurai to supplement my fragile army. (plus one horseman who bloody lost their horsies, which was quite fortunate)
Edit: just noticed that I don't have the replay of our Takeda vs Chosokabe. (the one with the shallow stream)

Holy ****-stick! (it's my secondary navy)
I hope to god that I can capture that beast. It's con reads: Best ship in the game, just a wittle demoralizing.
Edit: I'm such an idiot, the battle was as one sides as a gang-rape, at my 5th try and using superior tactics I managed to kill 30peeps and 3 cannons, I got the mori fireships in close, and turned 'em around, then rained mines on it, while it butchered my fleet.
Edit: **** YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After a few turns I took another shot at it, I lost the first battle then realized what I must do, i was so silly for not noticing it. Set that mother-****** on fire! (the problem was before that I made a full-scale attack on it, when the key is to leave atleast one ship away while the SOB BURNS!)
It was beauiful, on of my firebomb ships just hugged the ships ass (keeping it from blasting it to pieces) while I rained fire on it.
He surrendered VERY quickly, but alas I couldn't capture the ship  A significant downside.
Edit: I keep replaying it, the ship surrenders everythime, but I never capture it  Going to keep trying 'till I do, this brings back sooo much memories of Sea-dogs.

I saw it last time, still puts a smile on my face. ^^
I decided that the Black Ship should be destroyed, I knew that if I capture it I'll have indomitable sea dominance, and seeing how I beat it with a much inferior force I decided to stick to my own fleets.

Dafuq??? I ran multiple virus scans and they turned up nothing, please tell me that steam isn't trying to leach more money out of me in such an underhanded way... Validating my local files, to see if that helps. Gets to 74% and then halts, something is definitely wrong.
Once I get this problem sorted I'll look further into the Sengoku Jidai DLC
