Is homm VI a decent game finally?
Hello homm fans,
First of all, i want to say that i am a huge Heroes fan. But i havent played or concerned about homm VI for like a year. Ive started campaign and completed only a few missions, mainly because of gameplay monotony and.. terrible skill system. I mean heal-attack-heal-attack-heal (only useful strategy), useless skills, useless spells, non-existent replaybility, buggy patches, etc..
I think that the last patch that ive played with was 1.5. It got some good fixes, but still - no motivation to play campaign.
So heres the deal. Completion of a homm game campaign is a must for a fan like me. And now i see that theres patch 1.8 already. And theres an expansion coming out. Are these are the fixes that i needed?
Is game at least playable now for those who hated it from the start(like me)? Or its basically the same disappointment as it was and i should just skip this and wait for homm VII?
I know that people who actually likes homm VI will not understand me, so my question is more applied to the game critics who at least hated the skill system. Thanks for your answers

Nothing much has changed with the skill system, just minor tweaks. And sadly the addon will have no reworks on that matter, best you can hope for is dungeon, extra adventure map content and an enjoyable campaign. The original H6 campaigns were very hit or miss and most weren't really worth it. Too long for what they offered, not as exciting as they could have been. Or sometimes plain boring.

sad.. very sad then. Im more of a casual player and adding to the boredom of the campaign is difficulty.. The game gets unplayable. Ive got major problems when playing on medium those few maps while i usually play rts games on hard. Ive even heard that some people got problems on easy. AI is cheating, when you defeat him he instantly gets back with even bigger army. The only tactics of the campaign is rush. No more calm building like the most players like. And i hate it.
Sorry to say but i think ubisoft screwed legendary series. Homm V was decent for me, at least after patches. But skills, huge boring campaign maps and AI cheating got me to forget it.

Sorry but I have to disagree
The campaigns are easy, very easy and I have yet to see a person who was not able to finish it. Not only that the only strategy you need is "Have more castels = win" many features of the game, especialy whith the word "Dynasty" are noting more then cheats that make the game so much easier
Everything else in your OP is understandable and the lack of interesting options in the skill system is one of the major turndowns of the game

If nothing else, we now at least have half-decent town SCREENS and not ugly as Succubi (in H6, at least - H5 Succubi were fairly awesome) town WINDOWS.

I think if we get resource banks and more map objects everybody will be ok with the skill system.

Yeah I also found the Campaigns in Heroes VI a bit too easy. Altough Heroes III or IV campaigns being hard was all about "cheating" Necros who mass-produced Skeletons (or other factions respectively with their over-sized armies). But it was fun to overcome this odds with your strategical thinking. Maybe it's all about me being a long time Heroes player who knows some tricks, but I think AI in Heroes VI is not only stupid, but also not handicapped enough to be competitive...

I Would actually like the game more, if there were no skills at all. Only few based on each faction and spells in mageguilds like it was in H1.

There is enough ability variety in the units themselves

Too much apparently: so far, all the Dungeon unit abilities that were revealed are little more than copies of the earlier ones, except for the Stalker-ish core's Invisibility, which was taken out of H5.
Oh, and of course all abilities are bugged as Sheogh anyway.

Don't expect a miracle for H6, there was no hope since the blackhole bankrupt rumors....

What is up with Might&Magic franchise and (near-)bankrupt companies?

Maybe the "target" is too small for Ubi to put big money on it? I mean the Heroes games are popular, but how much money do those actually generate? That's why Ubi gives a small budget to small companies, that don't try to rip off as much money as possible, thinking that the game is a "big chance" for them. Well, at least for some of them, that kind of thinking ended bad way

H4 was an OK game and a "too" different Heroes. H6 is just a bad game and a terrible Heroes NWC had at least a good excuse for releasing a subpar game (bankruptcy, reduced staff, etc...), what's Ubisoft's excuse ?
What's funny (or sad) is that nowadays, I can still launch H4 and have a few hours of fun, but as for H6 ... I just can't. This even had some bad side effects on me ... When I launch any Ubi game and see their logo, it makes me quit instantly ... just like any EA game.

I think Ubis uses more or less the same excuse.
My case is the oposite to yours. I know H Vi is bad in amny ways but I still can enjoy it, unlike IV which I cant even force myself to instal on my PC.

UBI has ALL of the money (AKA nowhere near bankruptcy level).
Their only possible excuses is that they simply don't care or lack faith in the franchise.
All the older games are varying degrees of unstable, but at least they don't freeze on me like a little b****.
