Not that I will buy it, but a pretty interesting board game concept ISS VANGUARD. It's more like a 4X PC game converted into a board game

I enjoy playing some board games alone becasue I can play it at my own pace then.
But I mostly play with my brother (we either play battle-mini style games, "dudes on map" or co-op ones, like Castle Ravenloft). I have a bunch of friends with whom I met up occasionally for gaming sessions, but unfortunately corona happened and it's not the same when you play via camera so we suspended these activities for now...

Yep, video games are one of those things that succesfully steer me away from setting up a board game. It's so much easier to just launch a game on PC/console then to set up a physical game. My other "disturbances" are books, and I recently bought a lot of them.
But I think when I'll move to my new apartment (it'll still take some time due to delays) I will finally be able to just leave a board game unpacked and go back to it whenever I fancy. I bought Etherfields some time ago so it's waiting for a chance to be played. The game is narrative driven and perfect for the the pick up and play in short instances approach.

I have only opened up one box of my Etherfields' Kickstarter to look at the minis. It's otherwise sitting in a box, unplayed. My game room is being remodeled and the only thing I can really do in it currently is paint. My games are in a storage room and to get to them is challenging.
Now that I think about it, I do have Gloomhaven perpetually set up on my game table. It is currently inaccessible, though, due to being covered by a cloth (game sits underneath the top), and various tools and board are on top of it.

Yep. Especially since I can just load anything from Tabletop Simulator. Setting up a game feels like a waste if it's not for company.

For me also, I haven't played solo in years tbh. The times I have done it has been with games that I have bought that no one else liked to play, so I was like snow it I don't wanna just resell this before having a bit more fun out of it... and hence I played with myself. Yes I said it. lol.

I think that in recent years more games appeared that can be played solo. There are even rulesets that "emulate" other players, like AI For example you can play many Dungeon Crawlers this way as "Dungeon Master" is usully an "artificial" (as in controlled by players) being to begin with.
It might seem like "forever alone" player-base targeting at first, but its actually not that unusal.
For example I noticed that in one board game community that I visit a lot of players like to get acquainted with a game before they even introduce it to their gaming circle. It helps if a game is playable solo. Ofc we're talking people that buy-and-sell games on a regular basis and simply sell a game if they don't find it attractive enough.
Or sometimes a game is simply expierienced best solo. Etherfields for example is a game that you need to contemplate on, and I know from playing with my friends that they sometimes like to rush things, like "why do you think so long on this action, get a move on!" which I sometimes find a bit distracting etc. (not to say I'm not doing it myself, no one likes to sit idle for too long while waiting for someone elses move).
More importantly, if there is a demand for such games (and there is) that means board game creators will proceed with creating them.

Now that you guys mentioned, I feel like I am an alien. I dunno, but my early boardgaming days, I really want to have people to play with.
Since nobody wants to play with me, I tried doing stuff solo and now I am liking it. Too bad I don't have much access to the games that I really like. The fact that they are super expensive, they are also not allowed to be shipped outside US. So even if I have money, I wont be able to buy.
LotR LCG is what I am interested right now. I really love the game play. It's more on deck building which I love the most! I really missed building decks since the pandemic held me of from playing MTG paper.
When I learned about the game, I was super thrilled! I hope my dream will come true one day!.

Once again, Tabletop Simulator. Most board games out there at the tip of you fingers for a collective sum of several dollars.
And I hear MTF: Arena is very good if you want to scratch that MTG itch, but can't play paper.

@Galatea
As Geny mentions Tabletop Simulator - a cost effective way of trying out many games with a bunch of people (although it's played best with headphones for communication). https://www.asmodee-digital.com/en/ specilizes in digitalizing popualar board games. Some are in early access stages (Gloomheaven), some are mediocre adaptations (Blood Rage), but most can be played in multiplayer and bought cheaper on a sale then you would ever pay for a physical version. They even adapt games that are more family-friendly (in a sense that everyone can play, even old folk who like more mundane games) like Carcassone. While not a board game but more of a storytelling expierience, maybe your more into pen & paper RPG adventures? If so https://roll20.net/ is an online platform for playing D&D. If you like deck building there are tons of f2p digital CCG. I don't understand what you mean by "not available outside US"? There are so many ways the get a game nowadays. True, they are costly, but no one said it was a cheap hobby You can always sell games if you find you don't have money to regulary buy new ones. I tried many ways of "acquiring" a game. Kickstarters, online shops, specialist physical shops etc. All work fine as long as you have the money ofc You can try used games. Most hobbist like OmegaDestroyer have so many games that they are willing to sell their older games just to make money/room for a new ones.
Yeah I know the point of board games is to play in a group of actual people, but due to corona this plans need to be postponed. As far as playing phsysically, you've picked a "bad" moment to socialise But when the situation stabilizes there are various ways to "get people to play with". I use a big PL forum that gathers hobbists, each 50k+ town has at least a gathering of hobbists or a circle that are welcoming if you contact them and want to play with someone (they gather at least once a week etc). There are also local shops which usually gather a group of like-minded individuals around them who are usually pretty welcoming to new people and organize meet-ups regulary. If you live in a forgotten hell-hole you might try to find people on forums and try to agree on a meeting place.
Becasue board gamers are no longer "nerdy loners" it's easy too meet welcoming people to play with, you just need a bit of courage. It might have been hard 30 years ago, but now it's easy to access.

@Geny and blob
Yeah, I knew about Tabletop simulator. I haven't really dig into it but I read from somewhere that Asmodee doesn't allow (any of their products? Not really sure but its sure for LotR and Arkham Horror LCG) to be used in TTS.
Also, LotR LCG has a digital version too in Steam. I was thinking to go for it actually but... I really love the non-digital "Table Top" "feels" for two things:
1. I love how it gets me off-screen (since I work 9 hrs per day on-screen) and have immense fun!
2. I love the feeling of touching the cards, sleeving the cards, shuffling, manual dice rolling, touching the figures, sliding your hands on the playmat etc., etc. I am so addicted to them. I'm weird I know.
And about MTG Arena...sorry...
I DON'T LIKE IT!
If they would probably add just even the PIONEER format in it I will play but its just STANDARD and HISTORIC so no way. The closest thing to this is MTGO but I don't want to spend for a digital second copy of what I have. It's either I sell them and convert it to MTGO but... still meh I don't feel like doing it... Yet.
Although, I rarely, rarely play... It's kinda frustrating but still, it feels good to think you could play them in the future.

Well yeah, that's the point of them "Having fun with friends" is just a buzzword, we all know people are in for the minifigs and/or art
Ofc it's a joke, I know a couple of people who purposely staying out of "tons of plastic" games cus they enjoy a game that is mechanically sound more then if it looks good or has a lot of components.
For example I have Massive Darkness and I rarely play it becasue, although it has a lot of cool minifigs that I love to look at, the game itself is a total chore to set-up.

Ahahaha! That's really funny!
And I forgot to include that feeling when you unbox them and DAMN! The smell of the cards etc. Feels so good!
I'm so weird I know.
I feel you. Its really tedious to set up a game. My solution with it, that always came up in my mind during my PACG games, is to provide a dedicated table for the game. So I can just leave where I was and would free me from this set-up/clean-up routine. Apparently, it's not applicable for me at the moment. And to solve this, I opted for those easy-to-set-up board/card games like LoTR LCG. I think, just 5 mins and I'm already set. Easy clean up too.

That is something I plan to change when I move to my new apartment. I will have a dedicated table that will be permanently "littered" with board games My current space limitations do not allow me to set-up a permanent spot.
People here can probably use all ten fingers to count how many times I renounced I will stop buying them, and altough I nowadays buy like one game per year I'm still into it My main problem is that I usually go all-in so the final cost of a game is still pretty high.
I'm a plastic-maniac as far as board games go, but I explain to oneself that I will use those to set up this nerdy display case when time is right
