Crack the system, don't let demons

But the world isn't cool without Demons!

About the game, if it really is H7, I won't have high expectations so I won't get disappointed like I was with H6.

Now what I wish for, the closer to H5 the better. Skill wheel, a lot of factions(all from H5 if possible of course), alternative upgrades done right, a lot of strategic and tactical choices, ton of skills and spells, ATB bar...

But I am aware of the fact that what I wish for and what I expect is very very different.

It's not impossible at all. Look at M&M DoC. Hundreds of relevant creatures and even spells. I don't see why it would be that hard, and considering expansions, they could spread the workload so it wouldn't be too overwhelming.

Heroes is a little more complicated than DoC...
But I do like the idea of having Heroes battle screens being linear like DoC (i.e. attack skill of 4 hitting a creature with Health 6 will leave it with Health 2....)

I beg to differ, IMO the world would be much cooler without the demons. Mind you, it would be improved if you completely reworked Haven over so it wasn't a western-Europe medieval society.

It is matter of opinion, so I don't see why we should argue about that.

All I can say is that if Demons didn't exist in H5 together with Stronghold and Necropolis for example, I wouldn't touch it at all. I can't really enjoy other factions and every game that I've played, I usually play Demons/Undeads/Orcs. From Heroes series, Age of Wonders 1 & 2, to Disciples 2, Warcraft 3, Duel of Champions, Hearthstone... you get the idea.

However, Demons are a big 'get out of jail free' card for the storywriters. Can't think of a decent storyline? I know, we'll throw in a demon invasion.

Yeah, but that is just poorly done.

They can make whatever they want, whatever is there on their mind and their imagination is the limit. As I said, played a ton of games and Demons are different from game to game, up to the point why they exist, how they come to this world, what is their goal,

But hey, they decided that Demons will come from Hell(Sheogh, yeah whatever) when eclipse happens and will invade the world(Ashan) and wreak havoc. HOW ORIGINAL! It literally couldn't be more stereotypical and cliche than that.

I like the Demons because of their look and savagery, but still think that they could be done a lot better. My favorite Demons were from Disciples 2... huge, ugly and asymmetrical beasts with huge wings, ton of claws, maws, tentacles and faces all over them.
Because that is how I would imagine them, with thousand shapes and forms, constantly changing over years.

I guess you are talking about an Eldritch Horror from AoW3? It is cool, but not for a Demon.

Oh that, yeah they are awesome. Especially the Dunwich Horror, even though he is nothing like Demon.

Since Haven is going to be 99% sure on the release, I also don't want to see Inferno again...I want other factions! (Sylvan, Academy and Necropolis are a must for me, Dungeon and Stronghold/Fortress would do nicely too).

You mean "get of sheogh free" card?

Anyway, I do feel we need some Dark Lord like Kha-beleth involved, like in Lord of the Rings or something....

Agree on Inferno, but Fortress and Sanctuary should also take part this time. Especially Fortress. A choice between Fortress and Stronghold is quite obvious. Stronghold becomes some kind of a bother faction like Haven and Inferno.

I - What are your thoughts on how the franchise has been managed so far?

It's still standing, so I'll give it that.  I was greatly disappointed with the story in Heroes 5, but over-all I felt it was a step in the right direction.  It added on to what made Heroes 3 great and the expansions only helped it.  Heroes 6, conversely, was a step back.  It was too stream-lined and hamstrung by a pointless DRM.  The DLC was worthless and I have not even bothered with the expansion.  Overall, I'd much rather see the series in the hands of someone other than Ubisoft but so long as another game is being made, I can deal with it.  I sincerely hope Heroes 7 is the best entry in the series.

Quote:
II - Can you make a top of the biggest mistakes the devs have ever made (no number limit)?

1. The stories of Heroes 5 & 6.  Heroes 5 was a nightmare.  Isabel is easily my most hated character in any media.  The inclusion of dark elves was about as cliche as it gets.  It was terrible.  The story of Heroes 6 was so unmemorable that it was disappointing.  I am struggling to even remember what it was about.  Something about five kids ruling the five factions or something like that?

2.  Dragons.  Dragons everywhere!  Heroes 5 went overboard with the dragon-themed universe by creating a dragon-based pantheon and making half of the level 7 creatures dragons.  At least Heroes 6 trimmed down the dragon units.

3.  Upgrades.  More options are a good thing but more-often than not, upgrades feel like a resource-sink and it's rare that you won't upgrade in favor of a base unit.  That said, I do like the alternative upgrades a lot.

4.  UPlay.

5.  Scrapping all resources but wood, ore, and crystal in Heroes 6.  It just didn't feel right and is another example of the stream-lining.

6.  Heroes 6's focus on keeping units alive.  Healing magic and resurrection were too prominent.  I know a lot of players are concerned with minimizing losses but it was a joke.

7.  Heroes 6 scraping the mage guilds, making spells skills, and giving limited uses to spells.

8.  Heroes 6's ability to transform cities to your faction.  Another example of stream-lining.

9.  Heroes 6's boring skill system.  The randomness was gone, which some might argue as a pro but I view it as a con.  There were a lot of pointless skills and a lot of the fun, exciting abilities of Heroes 5 were gone.

10.  Heroes 6's stupid boss battles that neutered your army because they were so poorly designed, they were not a challenge without an arbitrary limitation being imposed.

11.  Dark elves.  Nothing screams laziness like dark elves, especially when you rip them completely off from Warhammer.

12.  Heroes 4 isometric grid (or whatever you would call it).  It was fiddly and I do not miss it a bit.

13.  Excluding the Sylvan and Academy from Heroes 6 in favor of more dark elves.

14.  Too many male units.  The game needs more asexual/female units.

Quote:
III - What about top best decisions (again, no number limit)?

1.  The skill system of Heroes 4 and Heroes 5.  While the previous games had decent enough skill systems, Heroes 4 elevated the system and Heroes 5 made it great.

2.  The caravan system.

3.  Alternative upgrades.  If you are going to force to upgrade our units (yeah, I know you aren't exactly forced but humor me), it is great to have options.  The system in Heroes 5 was great and I absolutely loved the tactical options offered by most of the upgrades.

4.  The campaigns of Heroes 4.

5.  The music for the most part has been great.

6.  Heroes on the battlefield.  I suspect I'm in the minority, but I liked the inclusion of heroes on the battlefield in Heroes 4, especially high-powered heroes who could just wreck armies.

I wouldn't call them Dark, Purple Elves sounds about right to me.

Really? IIRC a lot of people were complaining how half of the units in  H6 are females and how they don't like that. I don't have opinion on that to be honest, more female or less, it is fine by me.

Mostly agree with other points except for the story because I am not crazy campaign/story/lore fan and I didn't play the campaign so I can't comment on that, but I guess that you are right.

I think Dungeon took a wrong direction myself, Omega. I don't know why they elfizied the faction so much. It was supposed to be a faction of underground and cavern creatures. What happened to that?

U play, obvious that it sucks.

Scrapping the ressource system is the kind of stream lining that I like. It makes a game way quicker and chops no real strategy from the game, I mean, taking a path toward sulfur instead of cauldron stuff? That s 25 IQ strategy, comparable to a baby placing star shaped and circle plastic things in their respective slots. Would work best along with simultaneous turns though.

Changing a town to another one should take 2 weeks lol Just to add a sense of realism.
