Yeah keep it up guys, argue about a game which will be s*it or mediocre at best (though I do hope that I'm wrong).

And about the voting... Don't you guys think it's part of Ubic's sinister plot to take some heat off them? For all those fans who will be disappointed with the lack of a faction (and overall number of factions) devs will say:" Naa, tis the peoples voice! Majority hath spokenth and chooseth! Tis democratzee in it's fineth!"

I guess his point is that we might never have a worthy successor of Heroes III. Even though we've been asking, signing petitions and yelling for ages.

Heroes 5 surpassed 3 in everything. Even 6 was better than 3 in several ways. Some people are just so fixed on the old games that they will never like a new one.

ToTE campaigns were waaay better than any H3 campaign. And more fun.
Game performance? Never had issues with that.
AI are, IMO, on the same level. Really, was there anything special about H3 AI?
...but I give you a point for Map Editor. However, an editor is not a direct part of the game.

Not in graphics nor atmosphere.
NWC games had a unique touch that was lost when Ubi rebooted the series.
This is why I still play H3 and even sometimes H2.

Common now that's just lol.

H3 being still alive 15 years later with ERA, HoTA and VCMI while H6 is already dead means evidence a little more subtle than that.

I disagree. Shadow of Death campaigns made some characters (like Sandro and Crag Hack) what they are, and Armageddon's Blade had some nice campaigns there.

Never played a big map with AI players I bet.

Not that H3 was special, just that H5 was simply dumb, worse than H3 from my experience.

You guys are arguing about opinions, what is the point of that?

H5 is the best Heroes game for me also, but I understand people who like H3 more, they just appreciate different stuff in these games.

Majority like fast pace of H3, battles in 2D, 4 spell schools, 2 hero classes, great map editor etc. For me, having many options is the best thing in the games, and that is probably the reason why I liked H5 the most. With great skill-wheel(that IMO was the best skill system in the whole franchise), alternative upgrades, cool artifacts, great special abilities of units and their synergy with other units, the replayability of H5 was endless. I could play one faction for many times in a row and it would be quite different each time. I just don't feel the same way about H3.

And of course, this is just my opinion, as I said, majority will probably disagree.

No RMZ, I pretty much agree with you about H5 (or at least, TOTE) being my fave... I just don't understand the fascination with 3. And I played the games in order since 1, and the amount of times I've played each game probably goes something like this: 5, (huuuge gap) 2, 4,(about the same as 4) 3, 6, 1.  Each one had its own charms, but there's this hegemonic perception that only old timers would put 3 on a pedestal. Rrrriiiiight.

@ cleglaw

man you really need to take it more easy!
i understand you really want inferno to win because you love HoMM games, and you want Heroes7 to be a great game
but same applies to everyone else here, with the exception that not everyone thinks inferno is better , as other people prefer dungeon
as for your points some of them are good points , some are speculations, but the same can go for dungeon voters, they can have good points as well, and also can speculate.
so it leads mainly to personal preference in the end..
lets just agree that we all here in HC want to see a decent Heroes7 )

Exactly, and those H5 duel maps (thanks Elvin) were the bomb! Different every time. Most important reason: RANDOM skills / spells availability / artifacts on offer.

Hey, vote for factions is still the same: Dungeon 56% and Inferno 44%. Has everyone voted and no more movement expected?

That said, as some people remarked, Kaspar's "faction lore" articles are mostly based on existing lore information. So yeah, no big news there (at least for old timers like you guys )

They were still interesting reading material. Thanks.

I knew it!! everything was a conspiracy!! ubi can't even pull a conspiracy right!!! After sylvan won, they thought inferno was in the bag! but they disregarded nostalgia! when will they ever learn???
almost kidding
indeed the polls are to take much heat off of ubisoft and its decisions. very smart actually. good luck to them designing dungeon and the line ups! we will havea good laugh there!

btw since 3 was mentioned. i must confess smth.
i can't really play 3 anymore. no caravans, i have to recruit 4 heroes to pick up evertyhing off the map and it's too troublesome and no fun at all. in terms of management is one big mess for me, since caravans started. if there any mod or smth that allows caravans?

It's the small things, the finer details, and when those adds up, you get

-Factions having an uneven amount of heroes, with no 50/50 gender representation among heroes.
-Heroes being pretty much homologous, with the exception of Academy that has a couple of Genie heroes.
-No random map generator, with most single maps having a campaign-like objective.
-AM hiding artifacts and monsters everywhere, making having to rotate the camera both a requirement and an inconvenience.
-Plot-twists you saw coming a mile away, and questionable character quirks (like Raelag's stalker fetish).
-An unfortunate narrative largely thanks to today's modern convention of full voice acting.
-The beginning of unit color-coding (though less shiny than in later games).
-AM being made to scale with the hero avatars due to those silly cutscenes where people cast spells.
-Warhammer dark elves (in appearance only) and to a lesser degree WH Haven and WH Sylvan.
-Most of the music being based on the same melody.
-Town-screens that looks less like classic paintings and try to hide their low-poly models with camera spinning.
-The Turn system feeling like a perplexing mess with portraits popping in and out of turn.

And it lacked atmosphere. Not to mention subtlety.
Kind of like how the Hobbit became a full-on action/adventure after LotR.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy the first two.

Well H5 would probably be better without the ATB bar. Who knows how the game would turn out for me without that friggin' feature. It practically ruined it for me... plus some other game mechanics.

But aside from that I also disliked the atmosphere. While the game had nice graphics, great music and a nice level of polish it just didn't have that "serious" fantasy feel that I like (yeah I know, some guys will start attacking me that H3 was not serious fantasy, that it was full of dev jokes, and creatures that had double meaning etc, yeah I know that). Plus, I didn't like the characters (most of them). Still, in terms of story, the game was better then H6 in many ways, because the story of those mentally disabled siblings in H6 was like a bad joke...

And quite frankly, I will never find a thread of understanding with people who say H3 is inferior to H5. I will understand people who'll say they put those games on the same level, or will say they think H5 is tad better (like my brother). But inferior? snow, please...

@Avirosb
A bit off top here, but about the Hobbit. It's like with H3. After that TBS game of TBS games everything seems inferior. LotR being the pinnacle of fantasy movies, everything will be compared to it, and inferior. Still, I'm just glad Jackson decided to make those movies (and stretch them so much!). I just can't get enough of this franchise (and Smaug!) so the more, the better Not to mention those are great and atmospheric movies, their biggest shortcoming being the fact that they came after LotR...

I think H5 surpassed H3 in almost everything, with one little "but": Technical functionality and stability. However, that's not a small "but" ...
