Based on the leaks they are in the game but supposedly they have been retconned too and they are part of Beastmen now. I guess the "rani" and "raja" titles were dropped too.

Indeed, they're Beastman now, but "ancient spirit" part was played out by the Cult of Meow (so, the cult leader spread the believe that Rakshasas are spirit protectors of the Shantiri).
"Raja" title is still around (in DoC) though.

No, he quite clearly admitted being Jorgen right HERE.

The flying carpet is inherent of oriental fantasy, and Ashan did put the faction in this setting.

Ah, I missed that part. You know, polls aren't one of my favourite topics of the HoMM7 blog, guess why?
Anyway, thanks.

Actually to me the magic carpet is one of the best addition/improvement done to the faction so far. The flying carpet undoubtedly fits the oriental desert theme, in contrast of the long-bearded ancient Magi from the high cold Tower.

Not really
Dwarves, Elves, Dragons, Treants, Wizards, Melkor/Urgash, Orcs...it all comes from his universe....
dwarves and elves from norse myth. you cant be serious about mages. idk wtf is melkor, treants you have a point and idk about orcs
even then manticores, harpies, cyclops, dryads, sprites, djinn, golems, angels, etc
Elves entered the 20th century high fantasy genre in the wake of works published by Tolkien...I think all Might & Magic fantasy is also based on 20th Century, and not the older myth.
Melkor = If Sauron was the 3rd dark lord, Melkor was the 1st.
Tolkien's wide range of fantasy is enough to cover Heroes of Might & Magic 100 fold...
Elves were popularised by Tolkien, but he basically rewrote, incorporated and 'modernised' the ancient oral, epic and medieval literature and language (manuscripts in Old English, Nordic sagas, myths, legends, etc.). The 20th century authors (not all of them of course), like many before them, relied more or less on ancient traditions - mythology, epics, folk tales, anything.
Also, I think that Melkor/Morgoth is the 1st, and that Sauron was the 2nd dark lord.

Melkor/Morgoth was the Dark Lord until the end of the First Age of the Sun(Silmarils).
Sauron was the 2nd Dark Lord during both 2nd Age (Númeror) and 3rd Age (LotR)

Personally, I prefer H5 Golem and Gargoyle by far. Cabirs are ok though. They even mention in the Golem description that they are basically identical to Titans ... meh.

To be honest, the gargoyles of Heroes VII Academy look much more like true gargoyles than the ones from Heroes V. Speaking about the Golems - I personally have no problem with two constructs in one army - one is cheaper and produced on mass scale (Golems). Also material from which they are produced is also quite common on the desrt (sandstone). Titans are deluxe edition, hence they are also much more costly and rarer.

I have to agree with Alci, not that any of the HoMM Gargoyles are gonna win a beauty contest anytime soon.
And it is a bit suspect how closely it resembled this fella:

I'm sorry, but although I understand that you dislike having Golems + Titans,
Official MMH7 Page said: Like Titans, the present-day Golems were inspired by ancient Shantiri constructs. When that ancient civilization collapsed, so much was forgotten...
"Like", as in a comparison. They were both inspired by Shantiri age constructs. They are not "basically identical", they are similar. It's be like saying "MagesApprentices and Druids: they are both humanoids that throw magic around. Clearly they are fundamentally identical, so get rid of one of 'em."
And, although I liked the H5 Golem and Gremlin, I am loving these artworks so much, the Gargoyle way more than the H5 counterpart. Although I do agree that the Golem's model from those pictures we saw ages ago should get beefed up a bit, they are pretty snazzy so far.

I am not sure you could call any gargoyle a true one as they vary from place to place.
