you people continue to amaze me. h5 gargoyle is the worst desing ever shown up in a heroes game, yet still it gets defended, somehow. come on its clumsy, funny looking box shaped with a retard fly-attack animation... it hits with a stone tablet... very thick wings... truly horrible design as a whole.
h7 gargoyle looks a bit robotic with its beuty but the lore behind it is just really making it awesome. i liked this new gargoyle.

There are a few things I don't like about the Gargoyle. Its neck is oddly long. And that crest thing is over-sized compared to its face.
Still, I kinda like the humanoid Gargoyle over the dragon-like ones of old and the tablet ones of H5. But, really that head area... it bothers me now.

Well, if you look at images of gothic gargoyles, you will see that a host of them has unnaturally long neck.

Meet Gargoyle, the fresh member of the X-Men.
Just as well we get Iron Man and Giant, too.
And for the record - if you look at the STATS of the HoMM 5 Garg, their looks and animation was fitting. Also, think a bit: Gargoyles are basically water drains to avoid rain water running down the masonry of high houses. However, the Silver Cities of HoMM 5 are basically DESERT OASES - so do you think there will be much rain to protect their building walls from?
Right. So making them basically animated BOOKENDS (considering the amount of academies and libraries) was actually a very thoughtful and commendable move - in other words, it was a very good design.

This is the people who continue to amaze me
Sadly, visually speaking they seem to share the same bland expression as most of the "you-know-what" in H6.
I assume H7 is just another case.
I just miss the Trolls and Ghosts a la H2 man...

On the contrary: they make perfect bookends for the Gremlins on one side and enemy shooters on the other. They do exactly what they are and are what they do.

My only gripe with the gargoyle is that it has a human face. That combined with the intricately decorated stone body basically make it a weaker version of the sphinx. This makes me sad since this is the second creature next to the lamassu that is very similar to the sphinx(even if it is made of necrotic flesh). This means there is a smaller chance for us to ever get a sphinx.
It is still miles better than that abomination we had in H5 but a beastlike face would be much better.
As for the golem, I actually liked the H5 golems much better design-wise. This version is the most underwheming unit that I have seen sofar from H7.

I think H5 gargoyles had a terrible design... and yet I love them It is that kind of weirdness that you get attached to after some time. In fact I consider them as the unofficial game pet. Also their pronounced role in combat was very fitting IMO.
Concerning the new gargoyles, I think their excess of decoration fits the faction style. The only thing I dislike is their boring humanoid face. If there is something gargoyles have in common is their deformed factions sometimes resembling animals or other mythological beings. Another time that Ashan lore is trying too hard to make it their way, at the cost of variety and fun in the way.

Wikipedia said:
Abomination (from Latin abominare, "to deprecate as an ill omen") is an English term used to translate the Biblical Hebrew terms shiqquwts and sheqets which are derived from shâqats, ... to'e'va (noun) or ta'ev (verb). An abomination in English is that which is exceptionally loathsome, hateful, sinful, wicked, or vile.
There you have it. A creature so loathsome that it deserves the Biblical proposions of hate it gets. As it should. It is horrible and not in the good sense either.

Yes, that is precisely how a Gargoyle should be.
So I don't see a problem with them being just that in H5.

I absolutely love the new gargoyles. Massive improve over bakwsez with stone slabs in h5
Golems are even more awesome, and hopefully they'll make them large enough.
No opinion on Cabir, they seem decent enough.

But they shouldn't be, thats the whole point! Atleast accordig to current Ubi lore. Their horribleness lies it he fact that they were shoddy stone imps and that is not what people picture when they think of gargoyles. If they atleast were proper imps that I could accept that but they were just ugly blocks of stones.
Anyway, they should have either a beastlike face or some predatorial demon like visage...

Yes, but proper stone imps. Thes look like they will claw out your eyes while the H5 ones looked like their attack consisted of reading you bedtime stories off stone slabs and hopeing that you fall asleep. What's the point of a creature made out of stone if they don't have teeth and claws as hard as stone. Atleast the H7 one has claws this time...

Jeez, the Gargs of HoMM 5 are no attackers, obviously. The design would be ridiculous if they had high attack and damage values, but in essence they are STATUES that stand around, block or even function as a magic elemental damage amplifier.
They are bloody ANIMATED STATUES - and as such they are LIGHTYEARS ahead in design of all those gargoyles presumably made of Obsidian or whatever, but are agile like a liquid-metal Terminator.

Looks more like pointy fingernails than claws.
EDIT: I've already accepted winged flying stone beings so I think I can accept fluid rock monster locomotion as well.

I do agree that the fly animation was not the best (in particular, it was awfully slow), but I liked the fact that they were clumsy-looking and somewhat cute. But hey, tastes differ.
