The way it says "a whole new clan" really makes me think it is Stronghold. Sahaar orcs are a clan that we haven't seen, I think, in the Heroes line, though they have popped up in DoC. And they wouldn't really call Necropolis a "clan", though I do admit "clan" is more a dwarf and dark elf thing and "tribe" an orc thing, but it still makes sense.

Em... there's a new post about Magic Guilds in Heroes VII.

Personally I like the direction they took regarding spell schools and spell acquisition. I just hope the implementation is done right.

I like the fact that on every level of Magic Guild you are able to learn 4 spells. It seems that in implementing 7 magic schools some level of fought has been put.

This whole 7 schools of magic is still limited by how many actually useful spells it can distribute and even with 15-20 spells per school we will end up with either a big overlap or some genuinely useless spells.

This also means that there will be probably only 2-4 spells per level per magic school, and considering how many of them will be actually useful and not a copy of another spell then we still end up with a pretty high chance of getting the not so useful ones.

I can already imagine it... first level mage guild filled with protestion from *random element*, remove obstacle and other H4 style adventuremap spells which are useless in creeping.

Mage Guilds could've been like in Rollercoaster Tycoon where you chose your spell research (attraction in RCT) based on what you need
(with a slight faction bias of course). The results could still be somewhat random.
Higher levels would yield a wider selection of stronger spells.

Just food for thought, because I sure hasn't thought it through.
It might not work at all.

@FuChris: You forgot about the Orcs.

The Stronghold faction generally has its own set of vocal-cords' strength based shouts of nature bound spells that can not be used by any other factions of this magnificent game.

I really do think that racial abilities(0 mana need for casting those) will be increased in availability. So, that way, free beneficial spells for the light based factions and, free cursing spells for the dark based factions will see themselves become easier to get as an experience gaining bonus or, even through witch huts of the same home territory of the specific faction.

Do not forget the many additions of features that were present in the previous instalments of Heroes 2 and 3 into Heroes 7.

Orcs use magic as any other factions. You didn't play Heroes 6, did you?
Orcs favor two magic schools because their deities: Air (Father Sky) and Earth (Mother Earth).

100% stronghold... Judging by how factions have been released until now... Also, they seem to go the way they are listed on the website... Plus, they seem to fashion doing might/magic/might/magic/...

So 4 levels, 7 schools. I can't see more than 3 spells per level per school happening, maybe 4 at level 1, and 2 at level 4.

Kinda agree with Steyn here.
Sure, there are a few which would have little use in HoMM, but those should be replaceable easy enough.

I didn't say it is bad or good idea, I only pointed that we have a good chance to see MMX spells in Heroes 7. Spells which some are "taken" from Heroes 6.

Plus there are spells like Lightning Bolt and Fire Ball, which have been around since Gods know when.

Since HoMM1 (and I don't count King's Bounty or MM1-5).
Nevertheless it's not about names only, it's about spells icons and magic schools too.
Ubisoft heavy (re)use whatever it can from Heroes 6 in its next MM games (MMX, Heroes Online, DoC, Heroes 7).

I don't think that having seven magic schools will necessarily make the game better or worse. Though it could potentially make the game harder to balance.

That said, I am thankful that the magic system has been separated from the skill system, even though we already knew that.
