Pawek_13 said: With my all love to Nintendo, it is a company that does such a thing. Look at "New Super Mario Bros." series or "Pokemon" games across the same generation games. Those two (and many others) games excessively reuse assets from previous iterations of their games, yet most of the people seem to love it.
Stevie said: I'm just gonna make one thing clear. I'm not complaining about recycling per se and I've said it in some other post before. If the model is good, reuse it if necessary. But if the model is bad?!
If Nintendo or whoever released the game Pokemon 6 and used this as a model for Pikachu, and get a lot of hate for it, would they still consider the same model for Pokemon 7? Now think of liches or vampires.....
There is a Pokemon called Trubbish, who at the time of release of Pokemon Black & White got tons of hate because of the fact that it is a trash bag. New Generation of Pokemon games came in glorious 3D, yet Trubbish still looks like this, despite all the hate.
Speaking about liches and vampires. Look at the comparison of their models from HVI and HVII (the Red_Flag post). Although in case of vampire it is not that visible, liches are a major improvement. In fact, that comparison made me like them, especially the liches.
One more thought (DM Liches) - ow, just look at them! They are so cute and derpy!

Most of mummies look undernourished. For me Heroes VI and VII liches are mummies.

What do you people think of such an option?
Not only that it looks much better than our current uncle "Pester", but it also has a non-skeletal look, so it fits the freaking background/badtime stories they call "lore".

Totally besides the point. Totally. New and established concepts are completely different things.

I hope you're joking. There's practically 0 difference and red_flag making the comparison to prove it. The only thing different is that silly layer of texture which the leg goes through and a repaint. Model is just the same as in Heroes 6. And even if it were a different model but the same uncle Fester high on crack concept it would still fail since liches have been skeletal up until Heroes 6.

First of all, open yourself this graphic of Heroes VI/VII liches it would make the whole proces easier, trust me.
From what I see, liches were intended to look lie a mummy. They are thin, their legs are covered in bandages (as an archlich, their torso and arms are lso covered), their skin colour is unhealthy (true mummies have brownish skin but let's just say that Namtaru's venom makes the colour of the skin grey), their belt ("dildo") comes from ancient Egyptian clothes (like the guy in the middle) like their new skirt in Heroes VII. They are bald - ancient Egyptians also shaved their heads completely. Archliches have decorations on their chins and the last element - their lips. Take a close look at them. When you do, you see one tooth missing and also that a part of thei flesh forming their upper part of them is missing. Interestingly, many ancien Egyptian mummies have this defect (like this one).
Is it vague? Of course. I came up with the mummy association just a month ago, yet all those inspirations were found during this hour. Putting liches a khat (typical pharaoh's hat) would make this much more obvious but still, they are mummies and this aspect of them should be intensified, otherwise it won't be seen by anyone.

I said similar things in the Necropolis thread, but, yes, I also believe the Lich was supposed to resemble mummies as well. They seem to resemble embalmed corpses, which considering they say that the Namtaru venom embalms them, makes them that much more similar.

Those are H2, not H3.
@Pawek
They can certainly be associated with mummies and it's a good match as a concept.

@Pawek, too bad you're talking about the Heroes 6 lich, whereas I was addressing Dave's DM Lich.
But either way you're just preaching to the choir. The Heroes 6 Lich looks more like a mummy than like a skeletal lich. That's the problem, lol.

Calling them mummy may be risky because references to real-life mummies aren't explicit. From over four thousand post from Necro reveal we also know that some of the fans have higly defined vision of liches but renaming tchem wouldd cause some other people to whine about lack of liches. What would you do to solve that problem, if model would stay the same?

End of the day, creatures are only tables with stats. Lich, Vampire, Griffin, Spider, Gargoyle ... call them what you will.
And I agree with Pawek on this one. I like lich-mummy merge. H6 versions had too much neone green glow and sci-fi textures. Vampire is the only creature in this lineup that I realy disslike. Spiders I'm kinda indiferent about.
Art is subjective. Just because one person does not like it, does not mean everyone dosen't. If you remove subjective nature from units, you end up with tables with stats. And lat's face it. Gameplay-wise those are the important bit.

You know you are playing with fire? Creatures are tables of stats in packages but the package is for some people crucial.

The model is the problem, if it stays then there's no solving it. They can retouch the current model, put in on the ground and take its staff, remove its current attire and add more bandages on the head and different posture and animations, and it might be good as a Mummy. Then they could do a skeletal lich.

Same here. Mummies fit undead category perfectly, liches and mummies match well conceptually, (aristocrat mage mummified) and there's no reason they shouldnt look cool and in harmony with a dark necropolis if it's done right. Actually it has the potential to be one of the best looking units in the line up. Also, it allows the town to include both the lich and the mummy, preserving an extra slot.
