OMG, I am so hyped. I have two amazing facts regarding Necropolis:
1. "Anastasya" mean "ressurected".
2. (From Wikipedia) "In Ancient Egypt, the spider was associated with the goddess Neith in her aspect as spinner and weaver of destiny".
Ubi-nox, could make some article regarding cultural inspirations of Heroes VII (especially Necropolis, because it is in a very bad need for it), please?

Look at the previous side, the second post, where I describe quite extensively why liches are in fact mummies. Even Galaad stopped spamming at the official blog.

Not really. It can be a little untraditional in terms of actual mythology but Heroes is full of such adjustments. It's not tasteless like the vampire that doesnt look like a vampire. It looks both like a lich and a mummy, and just like Pawek, I think the H5 liches already had that flavour going on a little bit already and they were all right.

It's not like they can't cut holes through it I like mummies and Egypt's ancient history, but the h6 and h7 so far had a poor execution of Egyptian culture: the colors, the architecture was more Sumerian and meso-american rather than Egyptian (yeah, I know the Saqqara pyramid ), the units weren't that inspired from Egyptian mythology (an Ammit would have been cool), their design was just ugly: spikes everywhere, the vampire looked rather like a fantasy medieval spin-off than Egyptian, the lich looked like a sado-masochist with all these chains and whips in h6, while the upg ghouls looked like well... something Why didn't they just put liches on the ground, give them an Egyptian crown, an ankh staff, maybe a mortuary mask and just name the Mummies? Even if they only renamed them to mummies would be better, also they could recolor their skin to a brownish hue so they look like the Tollund Man. Also, let's not forget that the Egyptian undead theme is also in Warhammer, the similarities with warhammer made them to change a lot of cannon lore and units from h5.

First, the lich. It has those useless spikes which look ugly, like some wisdom teeth gone mad, like the skeleton's it has no defensive or offensive propose, I know it's a spellcaster, but it looks utterly ridiculous. Also these spider legs/appendages add even more "spikeness", it's bracers finish in spikes too, this is starting to be freakin' hilarious, also his nails are spikes, his dress is shredded in sharp edges, his staff is spiky, his belt has sharp edges too. This is 2edgy4me, they exaggerated with spikes. Also I want to present you Uncle Fester in all his splendor, Tut looks like nothing to the lich in comparative to Uncle Fester, baldness, black pockets around their eyes, that grin , wrinkles and the fact that both make me laugh. Also if the lich was a mummy his face would be covered in bandages and/or have a cool morturary mask or a Egyptian crown(from any kingdom), his staff would end in an ankh or a serpent h3 style. Also these multi-color lights make him look like a damn Christmas tree, maybe the spikes were its pine needles, we got purple, cyan, pink and green there

All right, LizardWarrior, it is true that the spikes and chains were unnecessary, but you don't need to copy what you posted before. It still doesn't change the fact that they are supposed to resemble mummies, though the connection could go further.

As much as I love the concept of a Lich, this iteration doesn't do it justice. Just please make the lore so there are both skeletal and humanoid Liches, I'll buy into that. And make the unit in warfare look like a skeletal one (Heroes could be humanoid, fine, they need to interact with humans in diplomacy and what not)

These guys actually look more like a real mummy than Uncle Fester (even if Starker is a zombie ) Why? The color, the dry appearance and more important, the facial expression which is how it should be, dead

Not gonna happen. Marzhin said that the lore behind the Liches and Vampires is sadly here to stay and that means fleshy liches and and rejuvinating vampires.

I did it in order to make a point, not only the fact that they are fleshy it's the problem but the design all-togheter

Lich, from your favorite site, Wikipedia:

Wikipedia said:
In fantasy fiction, a lich (/ˈlɪtʃ/;[1] cognate to Dutch lijk, German Leiche, Norse lík and Swedish lik all meaning "corpse") is a type of undead creature. Often such a creature is the result of a transformation, as a powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his intellect to his phylactery and thereby achieve a form of immortality. Liches are depicted as being clearly cadaverous, bodies desiccated or completely skeletal. Liches are often depicted as holding power over hordes of lesser undead creatures, using them as soldiers and servants.

Unlike zombies, which are often depicted as mindless, part of a hivemind or under the control of another, a lich retains revenant-like independent thought and is usually at least as intelligent as it was prior to its transformation. In some works of fiction, liches can be distinguished from other undead by their phylactery, an item of the Lich's choosing into which they imbue their soul, giving them immortality until the phylactery is destroyed.

Various works of fantasy fiction, such as Clark Ashton Smith's "Empire of the Necromancers", had used lich as a general term for any corpse, animated or inanimate, before the term's specific use in fantasy role-playing games. The more recent use of the term lich for a specific type of undead creature originates from the 1976 Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game booklet Eldritch Wizardry, written by Gary Gygax and Brian Blume.

Mummies died, and they're more on the Zombie side, not possessing intellect. They're different in concept from the Lich and no amount of forcing can change that.

With regards to Heroes 5, a few bandages don't turn a Lich into a Mummy. And since all this is a visual problem at core, it's worth mentioning that liches have ALWAYS been depicted as skeletal up until Heroes 6 when that suddenly changed.

And in my opinion, yes, it's exactly as tasteless as the Vampire.

It's still true that looks are subjective. Something that you may dislike, may very well be liked by someone else. You just can't reach concesus here. The looks of the factions were actualy based on several diferent cultures. Some are more "monoclutured" than others. And then there's some stuff, that the designers invented themselves. H7 Necro faction is based on Egyptian/Balbilonian/Summerian/Numidian cultures.

To you spikes seem ridiculous. To me, who likes all factions more or less the same, it's not more ridiculous than Haven's golden armor that's 20cm tick. Ofc. it's ridiculous, but that is true for ALL units across the board, and not by any means exclusive to Necropolis or the Lich.

This may be your definition of mummy:

And this is what I think of, when I hear the word mummy:
