Unfortunately Kimmundi only was here to support us between his duties with DoC for a few months. It was indeed easier but we launched the website in the same situation we are today and managed the majority of the content like this.

Besides the article (which gives some promising info), I also think that the size of creatures was increased. Well, maybe except Rakshasas... Why are they so small?

Umm... what? Can someone decipher what this sentence actually means?

Can't you read with understanding?
We implemented more aoe spells and skills to make people stop turtling in fear of flanking. While promoting more active fights.

Hi everyone I was ill the last few days and could not find the energy to post, but I'm here again. Anyone miss me?... No?...
Anyway, not too much new information today, but there are some good things in the article. I like the fact that the cover system is back, as I think it was one of Heroes 6's better inventions. It also looks like the usefulness 'defend' option will be increased, which is also good. It also says that warcries are unique to might heroes. We have yet so see how that works, so I can't comment on that one yet. The same goes for flanking.
These are my thoughts.

So maybe I'm wrong here but....
The flanking system is the reason this game is lacking fliers. And the 'Covers' that the article mentioned, is the reason every faction has an elite shooter.
Hope these new game mechanics makes up for the loss of many creatures.

Quote: In Heroes VII, we developed a system to have more flexibility when creating battle maps, which include the possibility to have custom deployment formations for CPU controller armies. It means the “ambush” formations seen in Heroes III (?) are possible, as well as other exotic formation.
why is there a question mark in that paragraph? I know most Ubi folks are not known for their encyclopedic knowledge of the series legacy, but could the writer of this article not remember how combat worked in Heroes 3? lol

I changed avatar to swordmaster, cause its my another favorit unit beside wolf in haven. But if you prefer wolf i might change it back.
@The_Green_Drag
They mentioned in article, that teleporting & flying units gain the most from flanking. I don't agree with your statement.

That question mark is so much win
But that said, I think he was unsure if the feature existed in other versions as I'm fairly sure they only based their experience on H3 and H6...
P.S. The image shows the tactics placement phase. You have 2 rows default for placement, potentially increased 2 more (or 1 each) per level of tactics skill or however they name it.

well not to be harsh about it,
but you got to admit the presentation could be improved, at least so the article isn't scratching its head asking the reader what went on in H3 lol

Who knows, but I belive this is what they mean: They want less turtling in battles, so they increased first the number of AoE spells and abilities, that way it would be beneficial for you to spread out more. However, as this was still not enough, they taught flanking might be a good solution, to keep your troops in movement.
Basicaly, they dont want as much focus on stacking your troops around archers, and press "defend" and wait untill ammunition runs out, as was common sight in battles. Flanking is, however just an experiment, which means they might remove it later in development phase, if it does not work out as intended (I belive this decision will be made after beta tests and not earlier tho).
Overall I'm quite happy with this latest news. I was expecting standard initiative "turn-based" system. Altho I would prefer H5 method, I am therefore not dissapointed much. Specialy, as they reveal good news about tactics phase. I realy like this, as well as more unorthodox army start positions (and not just standard 2 lines), which realy ... I mean good job . I like this.
Also defence bonus being more pronounced, as well as more emphasis on covers all seems good to me. This is what I would want. I do however prefered Hero being on initiative bar, rather than acting whenever it's your turn. But If they can't make it work good, I'm fine with this. I mean better safe then broken. Other features are quite expected and standard.
So on one hand you have more mobile battle enviorment, where you wanna act and attack, and on other hand, you have more bonus, if you opt for defending, so that this strategy still isn't obsolete. I belive this is where they are going with this. And I hope they'll did it.

Its a picture of the tactics phase. The player is placing creatures on the battlefield (green marking the possible placing area). The player is currently placing the welder guy so the mouse cursor has turned into a creature icon. Purple tiles are reserved for the hero's home. The attack will soon begin by the troops advancing to the north.

probably written by a community person and as such doesn't necessarily have to know anything about the series before h7 and i'm ok with that. that said, it is pretty weird and confused me too
