well IIRC, the Kreegans don't really use blasters, they are like a locust swarm who overwhelm in sheer force of numbers
the blasters are weapons of the Ancients which harm the Kreegans, but they're very rare and you need a Forge to replicate more
you also blow up their Hive spaceship with all the tech in Might and Magic 6 before Heroes 3 begins, so there's that lol

Actually you find a few blasters in Colony Zod - Kreegans' hive where thier king live on Antagarich. IIRC entrance to prisioners cells is protected by force field.
After the Kreegan landed on Enroth in Night of the Shooting Stars they devided their forces - main force with their queen stayed on Hive ship in Sweet Water ruins on Enroth but their king with some forces invaded Eeofol on Antagarich.
Hi-tech of Ancients is still present on Enroth - the largest vault is located below city of Free Haven on Enroth but there are others as on in Deyja on Antagarich, where not working Heavanly Forge was found.
Interesting. It does explain things a bit.
Thank you.

I see the biggest problem in factions like forge or sci-fi faction in the fact, that other factions in HoMM are not like that. It is in the lore, sure, but all units in game are "medieval" style if you wanna call it that (even tho they are mix of various cultures, religions, myths and time periods). If all factions would have a sci-fi element to them, it would make much more sense.
One twist for Ashan could be that aliens invade it (maybe lizzardmen?) from other planet, and introduce this new technology. So while new faction would be heavy sci-fi, others would only have a few traces of that, but enough to not feel out of place.
We would have kinda He-man / Thudercats esque universe in HoMM ... I belive this would be awsome actualy and is my secret wish. Sword & Sorcery + laser guns & spacecraft ... unbeatable

Kobalt, great artworks!!! Something old with a new flavor. I really like them.
You should start your own thread imho. You’ll receive some suggestions about replacements for the Hydra and (eventually) Wyvern, and maybe some critics Also some people from WoG forum might be interested in collaboration for H3 Fortress remake mod.
I'm looking forward for your next artworks (not only creatures but town as well)

Galaad,
Congrats on winning the event. Enjoy your visit and your chance to touch the game early. While I don't always enjoy your tactics in making your voice heard, you clearly are very passionate about the franchise. You name was one of the first that came to mind when I saw the contest.

If all factions would have a sci-fi element to them, it would make much more sense.
And that was the whole reason there was so much resentment against the Forge. People who never played the M&M games (like me, I never played them) never got in touch with the Sci-Fi parts that existed in the world of the first three HoMM games. If you only look at those first three HoMM games, you cannot identify anything that relates to Sci-Fi at all - there's no hyper-tech or similar present. Yes, you have teleporters, but those are considered to be magical, which perfectly fits a medieval world where magic is omni-present. The artifacts themselves also have a medieval feel about them, I don't recall any high-tech artifacts.
It's only in the background, the lore of the Kreegans who are supposedly aliens. However, if you look at how they're presented ingame, there's no Sci-Fi element present. The town in HoMM3 doesn't feature high-tech components, it's all made of brick and mortar. The creatures don't sport high-tech components either. There's even the mention of demons warping through Hell (as to how Devils teleport as well as how their Town Gate works). Imps, Cerberi and Gogs are demons from various earth based ancient mythologies. Demons themselves are even named directly. Pit Fiends use a whip and can summon Demons from fallen allies. Efreeti are evil and angry spirits of Fire.
So, yes, introducing Sci-Fi elements into a game branch that only ever vaguely hinted at their existence is somewhat of a culture shock if you're not familiar with its sister branch (the Might & Magic series). Does that mean it would not have worked? Perhaps - but if they had been serious about it, they would have gradually introduced elements starting with HoMM1, culminating in the Forge Towns of the Armageddon's Blade expansions. I'm sure that if they ramped it up that way, the introduction of the Forge town would not have received such criticism. But at the same time, I don't know if the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise would have become so popular than it did without those Sci-Fi elements.

A bit late to the party, but just to reply to why I feel Kreegans as aliens is nonsense: Pretty much everything that Marius said in above post! And for me specifically, I see aliens (i.e. beings from outer space that has traveled to Earth by whatever means) as exactly as out of place as if easter bunny or santa claus made an appearance in the game: It's just something that fits into a completely different mindset.

Exactly - and the only reason why it didn't hamper my experience was that Heroes 3 didn't stuff lore down my throad no matter where I turned.

As usual I'll try to switch the tone in 180%
It is true that the lore of Ashan is visible on the games assets. But I think the influences it had wasn't only bad. In the case of some factions or creatures Ashan's influence has been In my opinion rather good. I know the main topic here is Necropolis. But other factions or individual creatures have in my opinion benefited from Ashan's presence.
To avoid any potential questions I think some of them are these
Have (As it is presented in H7)
Academy in general
Stronghold in general
Inferno in general
These factions IMHO benefited from the presence of a new world, and its style.
In the case of individual creatures not part of those factions. (And again I only talk about art influence)
Mermaid
Druid
Manticor and Minotaur (In both cases only the basic H6 forms)

Thank you! You underlined my intent perfectly.
I did thought of that but starting a thread also implies taking care of it, replying on time for instance. Unfortunately I don't have the time, physically, to do that the way I'd like to. For example coming up with a concept/sketch for a unit or a building and then work on it with the community's help and suggestions. Hopefully it will happen in the near future Until then we can talk here or on my deviantart page.
