What (good) reason could there be to hand out abilities for free, what would in essence be double-picks, since it makes sense to have more than 3 abilities per skill.

I'm actually wondering how much of a premise reason was when they thought the Skillwheel through (assuming they did).

It's not that I wouldn't appreciate the witticism of this remark - but isn't it a bit early for that kind of judgement, not knowing anything about it except a couple of skill names and the fact that hero classes seem to have 3 "main skills" - whatever that means?

You mean Heroes III 2.0?

No I mean Heroes IV. And I'm dead serious.

Same. But I doubt we'll see it anytime soon. If I had been blank on Heroes up to now and was presented with all games fresh and new (full Gold versions), I'd probably consider Heroes 5 the best one yet. Rose-tinted glasses from nostalgia puts Heroes 3 ahead of it, though. A worthy successor to the ease and simplicity, yet deviously complex gameplay is yet to be created. I don't think Heroes 7 will be the one, but who knows what may come after it?

No.

The worst possible (and annoyingly overused) argument that is supposed to be in favour of any of the Ubisoft Heroes games is "nostalgia blinds you, they are better than you see them". Heroes V objectively failed on many levels even if you take it as a stand-alone game that exists in vacuum with no predecessors, let alone great ones. Yes, it had some good idea, yes, it even had some good ideas that were implemented well. No, the story doesn't end here. Is that so hard to grasp? Before Tribes of the East, Heroes V was not even average from technical perspective (not to mention that the original release didn't even have a map editor and the game never really got an adequate one) and even though TotE arrived in a fairly playable state, some of the core issues could not be rooted out and are still not (Ashan...).

This guy couldn't be more right.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. The Love of everything up to H3 and the Hate of everything afterwards.
And with this, I am done talking about it. I tried to make a joke and it has turned into something I did not intend. From now on, I wash my hands of this.

Really? You are in your perfect right to choose to accept what has been delivered by Ubisoft, but I don't appreciate that you try to dismiss the people who try to defend what they love. And if some language can be harsh (although Lizard always criticized with humor), it is because it seems Ubisoft has a hard time to hear another language. But we will see if I'm wrong at the event, as I don't intend to be hateful there.

And that says absolutely nothing at all... The whole argument is pointless, like NWC heroes games were perfect.

Fair point. But I can't help thinking about it. I don't see why they decided that the differences between each class' Skillwheel should be at a Mastery level. That's a Heroes 6 concept no matter how I look at it. The way I imagined it before was more on the lines of Heroes 5, that the skills of a class would have different perks than the skills of another class, different number of them, different potency, different internal and external prerequisites and all that. Basically different and unique Skillwheels. Right now I looks like the Skillwheels in Heroes 7 would be copies of each other, at least at a faction or Might & Magic class level, where juggling with availability decides the differences. I don't know if that works or not, but it certainly feels odd to have skills with only 3 masteries be restricted to 2 or even 1.
