Well, Ubi-Nox confirmed there will be an option in Game Features or something like that. That section has yet to be made, though, so uncertain if it'll be seen in beta.

To be more precise, he said it's placed in "Create Game" menu and mentioned article was about Options only.

The button for switching randomness on/off should be there together with difficulty choice, starting bonus, etc., when you start a new game. Doesn't make much sense as an in-game option.
That said, I guess that randomness will not be available in the first beta. They want to balance the game, which is more straightforward in a free-pick scheme. Just monitor which skills are avoided/preferred, then tune them.

It's so generously from their side: to stream beta 4 days before any other pre-purchasee will be able to do. xD

Good luck, I even don't know you lol.
An I will just keep hating
P.S. This sums up pretty well the way haters of haters think in this forum.
Why don't you show love to ubi and instead of it you show hate to other people? Lol. You might notice that I didn't say any word against those who said good stuff about the game the way they see it. And I just say about my vision. And you and other ubi-lovers keep complaining about my complaints. This is so retarded, man. xD
P.P.S. I knew some of you will react on that message haha

Dave Jame said: The only point I would disagree on. Balance is not the question of categories you divide into, but that of all spells, if you understand me. It is easier to Balance 28 spells, then 72 (random numbers chosen). And even if the number of schools might be an issue, you can't say, that there are few spells in the game, and their total number is the balance problem, not the number of schools (in this field).
To elaborate on this stream of thoughts
Let us say we have 72 spells divided into 4 levels
Lvl 1 has 24 spells
Lvl 2 and 3 has 16 each
Lvl 4 has 8
To get a perfect balance each spell must be an effective valid option when compared to other spells of the same level. Since the distribution is random, such a balance is crucial for the enjoyment of the game, otherwize the player might feel mistreated by the game
It is not as important if the spells get later divided into 2-4 or 8 categories, since this only give requirements on their use, but for a spell to be used, it first has to be USEFUL.
I get your point but if you take the same amount of spells and divide them into more schools, it doesn’t change the fact you still have to balance all these spells.
But you have to keep in mind that the hero still has a limited number of slots per skills, and this is what I meant. By increasing the number of magic schools you limit the number of free slots for your hero to dispose during level ups. Not even mentioning the mess I fear it will generate with the random implementation.
You are totally right to point out the spells have to be useful, but I don’t see why the player shouldn’t feel "mistreated by the game" once in a while.

Quote: To be fair constructive criticism is not welcomed by Ubi nor its defenders, but rather being ignored years after years. At least it is a pretty strong impression I have.
Yes this is also a feeling I have but I think it has lead to a bigger problem and backlash since they tried this notion of VIP forum and open development experiment, because every time I feel there was a lot of people pointing out some problems that were ignored because the decisions were already taken, this was more visible in Heroes 6 development.
What I'm trying to say is that a lot of fan disappointment and venom comes from this "we told them and asked them to avoid said issue because there will create backlash, gameplay issues etc. and still they ignored them" while afterwards we have shady interviews were the IP holder rep./creative director goes to say that games are hold back by conservative fans and their constant demands.
And while I understand all this I think that we still should be more responsible with the posting I don't know if you noticed but at some point people working on the game and community managers were lurking hear and now I think I can go back a couple of hundred of pages and none have appeared, this is just my belief not giving out as a certitude but this hate speech and venomous attitude might have kept them away from it. So coming back to my statement criticism is ok being vocal about a issue is welcomed and fine but don't allow yourself to go in name calling and direct finger pointing a person as the one responsible for this decision every single time comes a news that changes or is to different to what we expect from a new Heroes game new thing have to be tried to evolve the series.
To the person taking a defense of the devs ... let them take their on defense and there decision and don't belief that an attack on the new universe is an attack on your preferences if you like it so be it it's ok, if you think a decision of art/gameplay/gamemechanic is fine defend it to the core because it looks promising to you and might be fun to you not because dev know better.
The best way us as customers can be heard at the end of the day is with our money if we don't feel ok with the game don't buy if that means the death of the franchise so be it we still have the games we love and those are not death but going strong even now.
So I apologies I sound like a preachy a*hole but I have been on both side on an mater or another be it in H6 and H7 but I feel a lot of people posting go in long personal attacks on a group or person and let venom slip in comments and we forget constructive discussion for something less and makes a good post and opinion less visible for debate, a developer who might be lurking in the background might miss it in a see of "stuff". And this was my only point to make hope I didn't overstep my role just had to let it out.

Unfortunately, there is not a single definition of 'good' which appeals to everyone. It is a mere interpretation, based on personal experience and expectations. The answer to the question "What is a good Heroes-game", or what isn't for that matter, depends on the person answering the question.
I cannot answer the question myself right here, right now. I need some time to think about that. And yes, I will look into the past to all the previous installments I played. But I would definately embrace new features instead of merely bringing back old ones. H6's AoC and Town Conversion, to name just a few, were features previously unknown to offical Heroes games, and I liked them. It's a matter of getting used to them. And that is exactly the problem, because many of H6's features were, and still are, considered bad or badly implemented by others. There is no way an overall 'good' Heroes game could ever spawn into existence.
Besides...H7 is NOT H6, not H5, not H4, not H3, not H2, not H1. The fact that the title says H7 means it is something...new, and different. New features and old features. Whether or not those features, or the return of them, are good or bad, is everyone's opinion. What once was does not have to be. But again that is open for discussion.

I am painfully aware of this, Kenishi. Back when I worked for Ten Ton Hammer, I moderated the forum for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Brad McQuaid, the director, would poke his head into our forums and stir up conversation. Unfortunately, the community members would pounce right away and attack him for every flaw in the game. Let me be clear: the game had major flaws. But the manner of the diction, the attitude of the community, and sheer volume of negative feedback made him not want to come around anymore. He made an infamous post on our forums about "all of the white noise" making it hard to find any signal.
The point of that story is that it was tough for me as a moderator to figure out how to handle that. I didn't want to drive away the developers; their presence on a forum is good for business. At the same time, I didn't want our community members to feel that they had to blindly praise the game. We tried for a delicate balance, and it was tough work.
The moderators on this forum have the same problem. They need to allow us to speak our personal truths--that the game looks like it will be good or bad--but they have to find a way to get us to engage in real conversation about game play mechanics and lore without letting the thread take a voice of extremism in any direction. Worst of all, they have to manage this along with their personal biases, whichever side of the argument they fall on. I don't envy them.

Well, since it's all about personal preference why discuss anything at all, we both know we wont change each others minds on the matter.

*sigh*
A good Heroes game is a game which has a good lifespan. This translates into modding activity, amount of fan made maps, online tournaments etc. Heroes 3 and 5 are a good example of a good Heroes game, even with their flaws known by all.
I personally find it not surprising at all that the developers stopped interacting with this forum since people are angry at them, to my understanding it only shows they don't really care about their fan base, because if they did, they would come here and argue with us, if they really wanted to make this game with us as they claim, they would have come to argue with us long before starting the development of the game.
Remember when that developer about gameplay came down in this thread, asking us our opinions? People gave him a warm welcome, and provided arguments. The dude left to never reappear, and next came disappointing articles, clearly not in line with what the community expressed.
I find it easy to blame the fan base for being angry when it is being treated like **** in the first place.

Agree on longevity, disagree with the above.
If I was a dev and read the SC everyday I would not feel particularly welcome to mingle. The devs know hard critique - they have had to deal with JJ - but there is not much to be done if the feedback is not constructive. What is there to say when you hate something that cannot be changed? You either accept it, propose a viable alternative or move on. Anything else promotes a toxic atmosphere that drives people away and alienates fan-dev relations. You are not happy, you make the others unhappy, nobody wins.
