When it comes to deciding (or wishing) what kind of lineup Necro will have i look at what Necro is supposed to be first of all. personally, i like weak low tier units with pretty powerful mid and top tier creatures with generally lousy speed and focus on demoralizing their enemies. This is what i base my thoughts for lineup on.

Core:

Skeleton/Skeleton archer
simple skeleton with a sword, bow when upgraded. Below-average speed, low health, low attack, reasonable defense, very numerous. takes reduced damage from range. Cannon-fodder unit able to grow as the hero win more battles.

Ghost/Wight
average ghost-type unit. Flyer, above-average speed (but not very fast), low health and attack, demoralizing aura and taking reduced damage from physical attacks.

Spider swarm/Swarm queen
Swarm of spiders. Upgrade gets a single, larger spider in the middle of the swarm. average speed, lock-down type of unit able to keep enemies from moving as long as the spider keeps attacking said unit. resistant to ranged attacks but take extra damage from area spells or attacks. Demoralizing attacked units and gaining unlimited retal on upgrade.

mostly there to tie in with Asha and spider-stuff, but i do believe the concept is pretty solid.


Elite:

Lich/Master Lich
exactly what it's always been: shooter with death-cloud shooting. Pretty high initiative but mostly focused on offense. bad health and defense. Preferably skeletal (at least the upgrade).

Vampire/Vampire lord
high damage, average speed, average defense and health, lifesteal, no retal, ugly as snow. nothing new or exciting, just your average vampire fighting with claws and teeth.

can't think of another elite atm...

Champions:

Bone giant
Large constructs made from piles and large bones not from humanoids. walkers with devastating melee attacks, average speed, below average health, high defense, demoralizing aura and upgrade gets a fear or daze effect to it's attacks.

Black Knight/Death knight
pretty fast melee walker with extremely strong attack and upgrade gets a chance to do double damage. Very low health  but great defense and cursing attack.


missing an elite (cause i'm kind of lost for ideas for a fitting creature, Lamasu perhaps?) but i think this could be a reasonable lineup focused on moving forward slowly but steadily and being generally scary. Just as long as the Death knight doesn't go all neon that is...

primary goal is slow force that reduces enemy morale anyway, which i think it does.

I won't lie. A Werewolf-thingy was always my dream unit in Heroes universe, though as I observed, many fans have an allergic reaction for this concept. If Ubic has a way of "introducing" new "hybrids" they should use their "magic" to throw in (Were)wolfy or two. I wouldn't mind...

Yes, great and absolutely useless... sadly.

I also wish we could get some kind of mummy in Necropolis, it would be cool we didn't have Necro mummy since H2 and they were maybe my favorite Necro units there together with Zombies.

I was thinking about them replacing Zombies(as they are very much alike, slow, rotten things), but when I think about it, we could actually place Mummies in the elite tier as tanky melee units that spreads pestilence and disease.

I really like this idea as it allows the use of mummies, while bypassing the biggest problem with it: it's huge and unavoidable link to deserts. just popping a mummy in Necro would be kinda weird as it's not much of a desert faction, but if you turn an existing unit (Lich in this case) into a mummy, you don't really run into that problem. In fact, it kinda bypasses the other problem of mummy's mostly being glorified Zombies as well

Well since we are now playing desert Orcs, we can return to the old Mummies as well.

Point is that if you combine two units like Lich and Mummy, that is still Lich and doesn't resemblance old Mummy in anyway as old Mummies were melee, tanky Undead creatures with cursing attack.
Mummified Lich would still be Lich, just wrapped in linen strips.
