There's a difference between "needing help" and "asking for our opinion". Did they ask us to code the game for them ? I don't think so. They're asking us what we want in the game so people will stop crying about them not listening to us ... but even when they ask for our opinion, there are still people complaining.
I'm in no way defending Ubi, I hate them with a passion (just like EA), but people who b*tch just for the sake of b*tching just piss me off. Funnily, if there was no Ubisoft involved, I'm sure you would salute the developers for communicating with the fans.

Totally agree with Nelgirith. When H6 was released and it was so poorly released, full of bugs and with endless problems with patches I totally understood and even defended outright bashing to Ubisoft, because they really screwed then.
But so far, Ubilimbic is holding a great relationship with the fans. We may agree or disagree with Shadow Council decisions (Sylvan Fury, yeah ) but they're working on getting the fans opinion on different subjects, through Shadow Council votes, through VIPs...it's really sad to bash them for this

Sylvan voting was a disaster in the way it was executed, but we can't fault them for trying to involve us in decision making. At least they do seem to have learned from mistakes when it comes to how they plan to do Dungeon/Inferno line-up votes.

Indeed the Dungeon line-up vote went way better than Sylvan. A two phases vote gives more accurate results as politics of voting for the second best are rendered useless now. Also I'm glad to see that they chose to keep the results hidden for the duration of the votes which was a necessity. Sadly that won't be able to directly impede cheating but only partially, so The Purge might become a reality for many more votes to come.
Still, improvements were made and I'm glad to see that the devs have addressed the most important issues. I think we'll have some nice voting sessions from now on.

So here is what happened at the Shadow Council dev blog after I copy-pasted some of the constructive criticism provided by Elvin in the Skill System Redesign thread from 2012:
I wonder when they are going to do something about the flooding.
And still, some people don't get it when some long time fans are loosing it down there (I am far from being the only one).

So when you and handful of other 'long term fans' flood - it's ok but when someone else is a no no? In my book flooding is bad regardless of whether you think yours is justified.
Also, just because I enjoy heroes 6, and overall direction of heroes 7 somehow makes me non 'long term fan' .? May be because it's out of fashion? Those 'long term fans' have already messed my heroes 7 enough for me - with troglodytes and such.

No, neither is ok.
What I've been trying to say is, if you want people to act civilized, offer them a civilized platform. Is not that hard really.

I don't think I'll mind the Troglodytes. In fact, I'm very much in favor of seeing things return that were once there in older installments. Creatures, heroes even....That way, you can get the goodies you had back then in a new and upgraded environment. The downside to that is of course continuity. What are those 'heroes of old' doing in Ashan, which has nothing whatsoever to do with Enroth?
I voted for Thousand Faces, long ago. I just like the general idea of the line-up, besides...it's long since we've last seen Medusae etc in Dungeon. Let's give them another time to shine.
Galaad, even a civilized platform like this, with its numerous moderators, can from time to time be derailed by spam as you yourself have proven before. The difference between here and the SC, however, is that mods act quickly here and are also able to suspend people. And not everyone simply has an account here, but they do flock together in the MMH7 blog. The SC is not much of an organized platform, but that doesn't mean everybody should be running around like maniacs. A bit of common sense won't hurt, and that goes for all of us. People are dissatisfied, that is a certainty, but the way it is expressed is beyond limit. And if you say flooding is wrong, don't be part of the bad example that is set before everyone else . You can't stop the flooding by flooding, it only gets worse.
Too bad it is exactly that which draws the dev's attention. It should not be like that. Oh, the paradox. I better get back to Asha, I need Her guidance in these difficult times.

Dies Irae,
Of course I agree with your bottom line. You are not the only who disagrees with my methods, but the truth is simply that I cannot avoid to try to do something about it. I know since the beginning the Shadow Council has no real influence on the game. Factions and lineups votings screamed marketing and most likely the #GURS was part of the scheme since they asked us to ask for it. They even told us when spammed enough about it. New year present? To tell us how much of an influence we have on the game? Please, I hope you realize now with the skill system issue that the only influence we have is the one they allow us to have. Will we have a deer or a unicorn in Sylvan lineup? Will the community vote out a one-time appearance faction in the game in favor of scraping an all-times popular faction? We are now labeled as conservative because of that, you read the article.
You rightly speak about common sense, but you should know just as much as me –given your investment in the SC- that common sense is not what prevails in an optimized-for-flooding place. Each and every one user can post a comment every three seconds or so. What happens when lots of people are connected? Or during the votings when we probably had a minimum of 100+ people with the frenetic mindset of “making your voice count” SC taught us? Common sense would be to realize that it is highly utopic to think a reasonable environment can be done in the way the blog is built, especially with nowadays internet hyper-active generation of twitter and facebook etc.
The main difference with SC and HC is not only that HC is being moderated, well-organized, and protected by excessive spam and flooding (although the H7 discussion thread grows abnormally fast). The main difference is that HC is a fan forum while SC is a marketing gallery, thus I don’t even agree they are comparable.
Now users are being silenced if they decide to post a high amount of posts (although there is no post restriction) and the chaos goes on and will go on until something is done. Deep inside, I think it is voluntary from Ubisoft to offer an impossible platform for feedback so it can be easier to dismiss the fan base's opinion, but I could be wrong.
All in all, I think we are both high utopists, Marblethrone.

Strange of you to say that the SC has no real influence on the game when me and my colleagues, and our daily work, are affected by each decision made there
The platform as such was in fact tailor-made to influence the game and it already has. And, personally, I think the influence has been positive - so far at least.
By your example - If it hadn't been for the #GURS, there might have been no random skilling.
But it's not perfect, of course. Staying civil is a big issue currently.
TL;DR: We are not the Illuminati - not everything is marketing

The Shadow Council came as a good thing. It showed to me this is not the game I want to play. This is more than what I got back in H6 when didn't have a clue of what to expect.
Although I'm not concerned about this franchise future anymore, it could end 'yesterday' for all I care, I got a bit wary reading in that article that the game is not RPG. Pure RPG, I think they meant? Basically, it's a RPG turn-based strategy all the same. Many other genres are adding (for years now) to them RPG elements – I wonder why ... – and these elements, features; they always drew my attention, made me play games I otherwise wouldn't play even before I understood the concept per se.
Evolving, growing and playing you role in the game. This is adamant to me. I like to think that there's not much limitation on how far you can go. I like to spend time playing things like that.
I also like depths and plenty of ways to evolve a Hero, some of them out of my power if needed be (random), possibilities to shape your hero accordingly to what you do on the map (based on proficiency), a very expressive uniqueness for each hero.
Well, after a couple of months watching articles showing basically artworks, it was clear to me that mechanics were going to come and they weren't going to change. The few clues about them weren't pleasurable, so I had to conclude that this was another game out of my range of interest, as H6 was.
I was lured at the beginning after learning that some features I despised in H6 were no more, or were 'fixed' in a sense that I felt ok about them. After that, I basically only had disappointments one after the other.
So, the SC served its purpose. Saved my time in daydreaming and hoping for something that won't reach me.
