inferno does need a little stretch every once in a while.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm totally down with that. A possessed warrior with a cool armor and helmet holding some huge jagged halberd would be quite awesome. It's just that Ubisoft won't ever go down that way, so I'm trying to keep it real a bit. You get me?

I remember being legitimately scared by those demons...
Those Demons were the best by far from any game I've played, and I know some people agree with me. They are exactly what I expect Demons to be, with multiple maws, heads, eyes, wings, tails, tentacles, limbs, the abominations of chaos. If only we could get Demons that are half that cool and not standard cliche Demons, it would be great.

I dunno, that sounds more like Great Old Ones than demons to me...

Yes, you already said that before. The thing I don't understand is why you think Demons can't be something close to Lovecraft creatures? And still, it won't be really close to them, the way I see Lovecraft creatures is a bunch of flesh with tentacles, wings and claws. Yes, my description of Demons looks almost the same, but in my mind Demons would have their forms and in addition would have all that stuff, not just a bunch of things mixed together if you know what I mean. Some Demons and Mutated Chaos Lords from Warhammer look that way and they are amazing.
Breeder from H6 is only thing that reminds me of that(and Tormentor to some extent, but they still have humanoid look).
Take Juggernaut for example. Give him giant eye on his belly, make his horns a lot bigger and his hands different from each other. Tormentor can have maws all over his body, Pit Lord can have two heads and few more tails.
In my opinion they would look a lot better.

CORE
Cerberus. Fast and offensive melee fighter with massive no-retaliation attacks that inflict increased damage on the stacks already attacked by the Cerberus earlier.
Imp. Flyer. Weak, but fast and numerous. Can possibly dodge enemy attacks due to its high mobility and small size. Spell points stealer.
Sectarian. A human, whose combat role is to summon Cerberi and Imps or transform himself into a demonic creature.
ELITE
Efreet. Flyer. Fast, but quite fragile melee fighter with some unique fire-based specialities.
Juggernaut. Slow, but the most offensive among all in-game Elites.
Succubus. Flyer. Extremely fragile shooter capable of controlling enemy actions.
CHAMPION
Breeder. Slow and weak shooter. Produces X Imps per Y days. Breeder's attacks cause all friendly Imps present on the battlefield simultaneously assault its target.
Devil. Extremely mobile and offensive melee fighter with no-retaliation attacks.

@SepSpring
great post
i really liked the breeder ideas and the shapeshifter unit. good line-up.
in my opinion, replacing juggernaut with pit fiend and renaming shapeshifting "chaos sorcerer(or sorceress)" would be even better. best line-up ever

I've read that Shape-shifting trait of theirs in the Discover Inferno post. Would they really go for such an unit? I mean, I can totally get behind such an unit, but the real question is, are they? As far as I know it's never been featured in any of the recent M&M games, so I wonder.

Didn't Fate Spinner/Fate Weaver from HVI necro had some kind of shape shifting ability... As far as I can remember you could change between human and spider form.

It was a brilliantly conceived unit too But I didn't like the spider form, it suffered from the over-the-top syndrome that afflicts all of Ashan. The humanoid version was fantastic, being vaguely themed after the spider worship without actually looking like a spider. Those lovely blades, the dance of decay, baleful gaze.. It was amazing.
If it returned I hope there won't be a spider form but something more interesting.
As for inferno, I have been thinking that we really could use some change from the whole red-flesh-theme all over the place. And redesigning the ravager into that handsome greataxe-wielding, armoured fellow from the blog artwork would be a breath of fresh air.

No, not really. It would just change form from stereotypical Demon to another stereotypical demon with Axe.

On that I'll agree
Inferno is a Chaos. Invite some psychopath in, he'll make perfect inferno. Breeders and Tormentors were good.

Yes, change the red color theme to green.
We could introduce them as lawyers or politicians. Elite ofcourse.

Oh yeah... but we can only dream
Thinking of that, even from the point of lore, Demons are perfect at corrupting elements. So why we're stuck with red dudes (well, Sheogh, yes), when we can have Water Demons, Earth Demons...

My inspiration for a Sectarian came from these summoners and vessels. Their shape-shifting is irreversible, transforming into a demonic creature doesn't allow to turn back into a human form.

My line-up (inspired by SepSpring)
Core:
Imp/Fiend: Flying, mana-draining small Demons. Fiend is much more durable, and can transfer drained mana to hero/other units (forming good synergy with Cultists).
Cultist/Zealot: Taken from SepSpring's suggestion. Basically very mediocre melee units with some spells (a buff, a debuff and a simple damage spell)- making them semi-ranged. Zealots can transform into a possessed, Demonic form (which is irreversible until the combat ends)- losing spellcasting ability, but becoming the Infero's true Core tank and of the most powerful Core units.
Their transformation animation should also be kinda brutal and unsettling- like plunging their dagger into their own chest and tearing themselves apart in an explosion of blood and fire, dropping the skin and flesh to reveal the demonic beast underneath.
Orthos/Cerberus: A two-headed Hellhound transforming into a 3 -headed one. Very offensive, but kinda vulnerable.
Elite:
Seducer/Lilim: Another transforming unit, emphasizing the Inferno's Chaos theme. Unlike Zealots, their transformation is reversible and also heals them/dispels debuffs. The Succubus form is a powerful shooter similar to H5 with a possible "chain fire" attack, while the Incubus is an "ok" melee fighter with a very annoying debuff ability on every hit.
Efreet/Efreet Vizier: A very fast flying spellcaster, with offensive spellcasting capabilities (but vulnerable to physical damage and Cold).
Chaos Knight/Inferanl Champion: Nightmare-riding, permanently-possessed human warriors wielding axes. Melee tanks, pure and simple, one of the more powerful Elites. Have some form of Charge ability, or maybe leave a firewall in their wake. BTW- I also think Dread Knights should return to Necropolis, but as Champions and combined with the Wraiths (scythe-wielding, cloaked figures on spectral/skeletal horses, with only the upgrade being armored a-la LoTR's Nazgul)- creating a difference between the game's 3 "cavalry" units.
Champion:
Pit Fiend/Pit Lord: Just copy and paste from H6. Need nothing to change.
Infernal Worm/Abyssal Worm: A teleporting/burrowing unit, with the ability to swallow whole Small enemy units. Alternately: Devil/Archdevil.
Warfare Units:
Juggernaught: Incredibly slow but very powerful living battering rams, manually tearing down the enemy's walls and gates. Woe to any enemy unit who meets them up close- but ranged (and spells) are their great weakness. The Inferno "Ballista".
Breeder: I don't know why anyone hadn't thought of putting Breeders as Warfare units. While lacking significant attack capabilities of their own, they can instead summon Demons behind enemy walls to wreak havoc.
???
Opinions? I think that's a quite badass Inferno with a good unit mixture between humanoids and beasts, unit synergy and emphasis on the Chaos and Fire themes, though the cheap Ubisoft might not be willing to invest in 2 dual-form units (though at Core only the Zealot can transform). And if people complain Chaos Knight were taken from Warhammer- so did nearly all of H5's Dungeon. And they can always be replaced by unridden Nightmares.
