Kimarous said: Besides, as I said on the blog:
Staying with the Tree Island is good for lore purposes. Just saying, it would strike me as a bit weird in chronology if we had "normal" forest cities now, then a few centuries later Irollan goes "Ooh, check out those gigantic ancient trees! ...LET'S MOVE IN!"
Oh come on.. this is a bad argument, don't tell me that you would go with the idea that "all elven cities are build around tries".
Less "I think all elven cities are alike" and more "I appreciate consistency and sticking with tree cities raises fewer questions if we run into the same settlements from Heroes V."
Was this ever a problem?
H5 vs H6 dungeon was very different, still no problem with town's names, haven as well.

Quite a lot got retconned from H5 so I doubt it would raise many eyebrows.
But I agree that it would probably even things out a little now that 3D town-screens are gone.

I don't know about you, but I consider there to be a significant amount of difference between "radical change in human architecture over the centuries" and "elves scrapping conventional cities to move into ancient trees millennia old."

Certain elves are... the ones with unburnable stone cities.
...then again, they ARE a society of backstabbers. And one of their prominent clans are demon worshippers.
TRULY, the wisdom of the elves!

I prefer Sanctum but it seems we will have a tree. Well... both concept seems not bad.
And for people worried about how H5 3D town screen would look in 2D (Sylvan giant tree for example) - if it would look something like that, then I think all would be OK.

That's neat, although it lacks something...

Sanctum, Island is maybe a bit too similar to Sanctuary.

Well i voted for sanctum since i feel that giant lake-tree brings back my biggest complaint with the H5 town screens. Namely that most were nothing but nothingness with a spire or somesuch in the middle and buildings put haphazardly wherever. Sure, some were good (haven might be the best screen in the franchise's history) but most of them felt incredibly interchangeable.
meanwhile Sanctum gives me that H3 feel of putting out an environment and then putting buildings where they would look good.

That's what I think also. Sanctum's somewhat Heroes 3 while Island is Heroes V.

Voted for Tree Island.
Come on, The Forest Sanctum looks like a dwelling, not a town.
It could fit on one of the branches on the Tree Island.
There, killed two birds with one stone.

Well it's mostly about how Sanctum appears to be more about adding buildings into the environment (H3 stronghold and tower are my personal favourites at this) rather than having a single tree with random stuff in/around on a flat surface (most of H5). That's not to say Sanctum is actually going to look more like H3, it just seems to me that it focuses more on adapting buildings into an environment rather than the other way around

You know what definitely doesn't look like a town?
A tree. On an island.

On a positive note, a H3-like town screen would be more likely to compare negatively to the actual H3 town screen,
whereas the Big Tree definitely had room for improvement.
Hey, it comes with a free moat.

How ironic H2 & H3 fans being blamed for nostalgia while the Tree Island success clearly reflects that.
