@hcl
Actually, games that don't require to press too many keys in the board are usually way easier to play on a touchscreen, once you get used to it. The only exception are FPS games.
And my fingers are not oily.

I hope that they will add some features absent from RoE.
Apart from that, I don't know if I feel optimistic or not. On one hand games released(or re-released) now seem to be more mod-friendly, so maybe there will be, say, easy way for anyone who wants to add towns/units/objects and a scripting language more readable than ERM.
But on the other hand I don't see any of signs of such features planned. And considering huge amount of things already existing I don't know if slightly better graphics is that important for me if there is no support for the stuff done by fans over this many years.
So I hope they will try make a transition between what we have available for "old" version and the new one smooth and easy, so that I can play it without regretting some key features

I have to agree on this point. The original graphics are amazing. And the new ones... Well, I'm stick with "RoE" 1999.

Artu, you should have use a 2x2 pixel of old town, without fort and tavern as well, to emphasis the difference. Seriously, why don't you use same build-level town and screen size?
Because if you do so, it will be clearly seen that they did not redesign the things, just applied filters and probably a new engine. I am not specialist, but I would like to hear from a graphical artist what he thinks: are those graphics redesigned or just processed under various filters?

some things look amazing like the Ghost Dragon but the new Necro screen looks a lot less creepy and a lot more cartoonish...

35000 hours of work => 4375 man-days of work, which over one year would involve 12 artists. No wonder that graphics differ.
I think they were made with different methods, by hand as well as with filters. Necropolis has clearly different palette, but there are also some improvements.

I didn't because that's the frigging point of HD definition. If you want a bigger size of the old screen, things start to go mosaic, it would even look worse. But in the new version you can have the same view in a bigger size.

I agree. The old town and adventure map graphics look better, these new ones seem too cartoony to me. The new creature battle sprites on the other hand look great.
But that's nowhere near enough reason to buy this when I already have HoMM3 complete. At least they should fix some bugs, balance some skills/spells and include all expansions. Didn't the HD remake of AoE add new civilizations to play with? The least Ubi could do is to include the Forge town.
I bet they're going to remake the expansions separately and expect people to buy them as well.

I like the new style but I hope the screenshots show a preliminary state as almost all expose glitches or lack in attention to details.

I didn't even think of that. If map compatibility is lost, this is completely useless (of course, most maps are for SoD and not RoE anyway though...).

Heroes III was always cartoony, just look at those high resolution renders (or the cover art) that 3DO themselves released all those years ago, it just wasn't that easy too recognize with the small game resolution.
I think the remake looks fantastic, hopefully we'll see a return of both addons (and better mod support) when the game is successful.

That's a better comparison, thanks.
New one looks a bit like those H7 town screens where buildings just seem to float in the air. The old town screen has more depth and seems more natural (and it has more detail dispite being a bit blurrier).

I guess, you've been spending some time with Ghost?
That's the most you'll zoom in with vanilla and it's already a little blurry, while HD will fill your new big screen and look the same. I agree, it is way too bright for necro but that can be just about this specific screenshot, just a matter of playing with brightness.

I'm pretty sure all old maps from RoE will work, even if they change format of maps it should be doable to write some kind of a parser. Similarly with AB and SoD maps, provided the game will support the options that are in the maps already.
But don't count on any kind of maps from mods, this seems to be pretty unrealistic Especially WoG, as creating a parser for ERM would be pretty tough. But hey, maybe I'm wrong

yep you are. If the changes are only graphical thus old sod maps are compatible (well, if it remains only Roe you can shove) then wog will be compatible.
But if they change ID for maps and other things, then nothing from previous will work, wog included;
