Watch the vid I posted a link to in my previous response.
I have already saw that video 2-3 times before and to be frank, I'm not impressed. Of course new games sell better because of the larger demography. Compare the number of people which got internet back in the '90 when half of the world was just recovering after the Cold War when less than 1% had internet connection (1995) and now basically 40% of the world is online, a lot of these users on a daily basis. Not only the internet connection, but also the fact that technology is much more affordable today than it was 10-20 years ago, also the boom of the international market, now it's extremely easy to sell a product (for a big company ofc) worldwide than it was in the past. Now it's just easier to reach people and they can afford to spent more money. Take the movie industry by example, movies today gross out a lot more than they did 50 or 20 years ago, just because of the larger demographic they can reach, music industry too. Cheaper gaming platforms+easier marketing=more profit. Also, the 'nostalgia' you mainly accuse for halting the newer games is exactly what determines the sequels, if I feel nostalgic about a game, of course I'm more likely to buy the next installment of the series, all sequels are based on a legacy which is based on nostalgia (and of course you will be nostalgic only if you enjoyed the game in the first place)

i do dislike the fact they are removing cool spots of differet units for boring-same-not-so-different-looking-functioning-humanoid-race units. dark elves are the biggest example of this. they are only different with their beliefs which is nothing important in my eyes. i dont like this ashan take on dungeon. artistically and functionally speaking, they seem out of place. why not making, for example, minotaurs as one of the main races? ah by the way that "one type race that dominates whole faction" idea is another ashan thing we get in latest games. i totaly agree on that part of first post. stronghold is a good example of this. units are orc, orc-like or failed-orc-experiment etc etc... and necro, everyone is vampire, vampire-like, pre-vampire... some sort of design pattern dominating all factions...
i always felt that they are wasting the potential.

I think the most important thing about the dark elves is their culture, actually.

i could have sworn i had replied.
Well i cba to be elaborate again so here the tl,dr version:
*Dark elves sell, minotaurs dont.
*Dark elves are a mythological race and fit nicely to the dungeon
*According to WoW stats both kind of elves are more popular than minos. Given the Heroes setting is bound to attract similar people this probably applies to Heroes too
*Dungeon won over inferno because of the elves not because of the minotaurs

Minotaurs are pretty cool and I'd love to see a minotaur character rather than just an unit, but as a faction? Nah... too strongholdish. We already have a faction for beast-like race.
Quite honestly, now that I thought of minotaur character I really want one - since they are mostly loyal servants, one could lead an army on some dark elf's orders.

We will be getting one: Darkstorm
I'd like to see Cyrca too. Not only for diversity sake, but also because the snowing sanctuary had more human heroes than naga.

Yup, H6 was so annoying in that regard - each army led by a human. If naga, orcs and demons were races that actually existed, this game would be one of the most racially offensive ones.

i asked for a reason to replace minotaurs with flowerless flower-sniffers. "Popularity" (and i heavily doubt dungeon would have been less popular with minotaurs instead) is not a reason. it's an excuse.

We gave you plenty of reasons. Just because you personally don't like the dark elves, doesn't mean that the rest doesn't. If you refuse to acknowledge any reasons, what's the point of continuing this discussion?

popularity isn't a reason if there is nothing to compare it to. Minotaur dungeon hasn't gotten a chance so we have no idea if popularity (which is the only "reason" you've given me) is remotely legit. even if dark elves actually help sales (doubtful. marketing sell games) it's still a snow reason since it's just a peer-pressure thing. and peer-pressure very seldom lead to good games.

Personally, I like minotaurs the way they are, but making them a barbarian-like ruling race would feel too repetitive with orcs around. Then do tell me - what would be a reason for minotaur-centered dungeon? Do you think others are just as interested in it as you?

Well I'll be honest from objective standpoint since Dungeon isn't my favorite town and I am fine either way, whatever they do with the faction.
There were quite a few people that wanted for Dungeon to be more about Minotaurs than Dark Elves, and there are a lot of people that despise Dark Elves in Dungeon and would completely remove them as they feel Warhammerish(especially when you look at H5). So, I am going to say that he is definitely not alone but who knows in the end, after all most of us on these forums are probably vocal minority.

minotaurs have been in dungeon since h1. they've had progressively more important roles going as far as being one of the more represented species in h4 together with efreet, orcs and some humans. they were the primary species of dungeon until h5 just kicked them to the curb and said "dark elves are in charge. no reason". they were ripe for a leadership role.
You also wouldn't have to make them barbarian. in h3-4 they were thieves, leaders, mages and slavers and while they favored brute strength they were also very subtle about it. their strength was a tool to obtain a goal but not the only one. Clever and subtle yet incredibly strong minotaurs would make one hell of a dark-aligned faction if you ask me. Medusae would work just as well (combination would be perfect) though being a bit more on the "from the shadows" angle.
but it mostly boils down to dark elves being standard, over-used cliché things just moving in where they had never existed before and removing someone else from their rightful place. it's just so jarring and nonsensical and respectless.

Popularity is the reason, deal with it.
@Sli well regarding orcs, im not sure which are orcs and which are humans. And with the demons it was ok and understandable. But it was really snowty with the nagas

Oh yeah, ofc it's a nonsense! How dare I say that Mino-Dungeon isn't popular at all - more so compared to DE-Dungeon.
Deal with it, [insert name] Elves will win over almost any other race.
P.S.: nevermind, I'm not interested in any conversation anyway. It'll be pointless.
