What happened with the rayman games anyway? I really enjoyed origins and legends.

Cleave said: As far as getting personal I wasn't trying to offend you mate, all I wanted was to set the record straight when it comes to big publishers and even bigger multinational conglomerates like Vivendi Universal.
haha no worries mate you have misunderstood what I said, I did not get offended for it takes more than such to offend a blunt Scot like me, rather I thought I did somehow offend or trigger you to have a personal issue because of your "mate" in the quotations and all that, it looked that I had tried the patience of you lol
Cleave said: By the way on a lighter note let me point out that in French "salut" can be used to greet someone but also to take your leave so it's both "hi" and "bye" which means that your banner can actually work both ways
haha cheers but for sure my French mate Galaad made the banner for me so I am aware of this, it is the tongue in cheek joke that they are already completely interchangeable with Vivendi so either meaning it makes no difference (albeit do not worry you have made it very clear and blatant for me that you personally disagree on that) cheers mate lol
anyway a bit of good news today for us all, speak of the Erwin and he shall appear and all that lol

Quote: Vivendi Is Said to Target Hostile Bid for Ubisoft by Year-End
Vivendi SA is considering making a bid for Ubisoft Entertainment SA by the end of this year as the French media giant presses for a deal despite resistance from the game maker’s founding family, according to people familiar with the plans.
While buying the maker of Assassin’s Creed is a priority, Vivendi doesn’t plan to seek discussions with Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot, said one of the people, who asked not to be named as the matter is private. Vivendi has amassed a 25 percent stake Ubisoft but hasn’t been able to secure a seat on the board. The French media conglomerate bought Gameloft SE, a company also founded by the Guillemots, in a hostile takeover last year.
A showdown over the much-larger Ubisoft could prove pivotal for Vivendi Chairman Vincent Bollore’s plan to expand in games and tie that business in with other parts of his media empire, which includes TV, music and advertising. If the price for Ubisoft, which has a market value of 5.5 billion euros ($6.2 billion), gets too steep, Vivendi may instead turn to Asia for gaming partnerships, the people said.

Indeed they are. Maybe after this "clever" step Vivendi will sell all their shares and go for another sheep in the herd...

Nice find.
Quote: Investments in video games generate value. Vivendi does not intend to file a public tender offer for Ubisoft shares, nor to acquire control of the company over the six coming months. The current unrealized capital gain on the Ubisoft investment is more than €1 billion.
I guess that's all we needed to know. I now wonder how Ubisoft did financially this year.

So on the month number 7 then :V
Anyways if they are so happy with Ubisoft profits, perhaps even if they do change control, they don't change things...

Vivendi got their profit and moved out, everyone happy. Making 2 billions out of 750 millions is probably not bad for their efforts.

So not only did they evade Vivendi, they managed to get the backing of the biggest gaming company in the industry by revenue. That's nothing short of impressive. But I guess the spiteful nerds still holding a grudge on Ubisoft won't admit that much. Dreams of Vivendi being their savior just got crushed.

I'm not sure I understood this. Who dreamt about Vivendi being whose saviour?

Just out of curiousity: why are you so protective of UbiSoft, despite multiple successive screw-ups in the Heroes of Might & Magic branch?
The only reason they "evaded" Vivendi, by the way, is because Vivendi lost interest in the effort. Not because they managed to convince Vivendi to please leave them alone.

Protective? I'm giving credit where credit is due. Sharks eating other sharks. I have no sympathy for Ubisoft, but I can't dis on their achievements either. And if we are to be fair, M&M is, like you say, just a branch of the company. To blame Yves, the head of the company, for the screw-ups of one creative director is inappropriate.
And yes, I do believe that Yves' campaign to push Vivendi away convinced them to end their pursuits to take over the company. There is no doubt in my mind about that. It's not like Vivendi grew apathetic or bored and "lost interest". They were made to lose interest. They lost their queue, the opposition they were facing grew stronger and with this final nail in the coffin of their aspirations as we read in the news, they had no choice but to abandon their ambitions of taking over. To say that this was anything less than a victory for Yves over Vivendi is to take away from his efforts. Like I said, credit where credit is due.
