Good to hear people liked it
For me it's not among the best SW movies but it's still a great one.
Liked the new lady jedi aswell Bad guy was good enough, Old team back in action and falcon pure greatness. Did not care about that storm trooper too much but atleast it wasen't that annoying.
Spoilers!
Now that most of us, has seen it. Let's talk what puzzles you. How come the lightsaber called her? How did she knew how to use lightsaber in the end? Or how she could even have any change against sith, whit no training at force to begin whit? Okay, baddy got shot earlier and was injured but still why so bad if you're sith, okay maybe apprentice still because that big gollum emperor said we will finish the training. Who's daughter is she? How come R2-D2 just suddenly 'remembers' it has the secret map, it's a droid for crying out loud, no need for hibernate either. Explain more, how you can use force and not being a jedi. Was Finn a clone or not?
Answer me please, this is agony. Open my handcuffs, leave the room and let the door open. Oh and drop you'r blaster rifle, just priceless

I watched the film last night, and I can say that I liked it, but I could not say that I loved it.
SPOILERS
The biggest problem I had with film was that it was EpisodeIV 2.0. In the end nothing new. It was cool seeing the old characters back, the new ones are ok, but still, the story was almost nothing new. We even got Death Star 2.0.
And I have some questions, and I hope that you all know more about SW than me, and explain me
1. Who are the rebels? Shouldn't they be part of the New Republic? They rebelled against the Empire, they won, Empire fell, and New Republic was created (and that was the goal of the rebellion). And now, they are just supported by New Republic? I mean, I guess they are working from the territories of First order, but still...
2. Luke's lightsaber. How did they find id? It is clearly from Episode V, and he lost it along with his arm?
3. And as it was said earlier by Homer171, how can someone who just started using the force defeated Sith (or apprentice) in the duel. IIRC, to become good, you need a training, a lot of it.

one thing i forgot to mention, and one of only two things that bothered me about the movie:
why did the hand-off of luke's lightsaber take so long at the end of the movie? why was he just standing there looking at it/her, for like the same amount of time as the end of lord of the rings?
was that really necessary? i felt like i was watching a soap opera, all of a sudden. she just stood there with her hand out, saying, "take this, it's yours". and he was just staring at her, not moving. and she was all like, "i'm still standing here, i'm going to hold this out for you for eternity. we are going to grow old and die together in this position, if that's what it takes."
...i got it. i just realized. luke hadn't seen a girl in decades(some hundreds of years?). he had been up on that hill jacking it(or using the force to release his tensions), without any human contact.
then, this sexy girl with a great body shows up, and hands a phallic object out to him, as if to say, "you know those erotic daydreams you thought of during the entire time you've been here? i'm here to fulfill them. take this and use it on me, i want you to. i'm your servant. i'll do anything for you."
and luke was frozen, thinking of everything he was going to do to her... with her...
horny ol' hermit luke...
eh? ehhhh? what'dya think? did i hit the bullseye?

I think she 'learned' something from Kylo Ren when he try to open her mind whit force. She even realised, i can do this force thing aswell. She noticed Ren was in fear or something and if he can control mind, why can't she. Yoda would say, truly marvelous is the mind of the child
Chewie and Han was in this 'spacecarrier' when they saw falcon drifting in the space. Obviosly they abducted the falcon and aim pretty sure Han knows how to open his own ship. (Chewie borrow me your crossbow )

@fred79:
I'm certain Luke didn't look at Rey that way because he was horny. He must have been alone for quite some time on that planet, so seeing another person, especially a Jedi, is something that would make you stare at other person for quite some time.
End of a spoiler.
So, as you may have guessed, I've already seen the movie and it was a blast to watch! It is a great introduction to new movies, which I'm definitely going to see. Oh, Star Warsis back on the big screen and it's back in style!

@FrostyMuadDib:
I'll try to answer your question in the most sensible way possible.
Answer 1.: From what I deduced from this video, the Resistance is a branch of the New Republic that was created specifically to deal with the First Order.
Answer 2.: The answer to that is quite simple. Cloud City has a bottom, so it means that his hand with his lightsaber was somewhere there. Someone had to find this weapon and take it with himself. Then it got somehow to Maz Kanata, probably in as complicated as in which the guy who bought scrap on Jakku obtained the Millenium Falcon.
Answer 3.: Rey may not be experienced in lightsaber combat but she was skilled user of her staff, so this gave her some advantage during this particular fight. She wasn't that unexperienced. Additionally, Kylo Ren is highly emotionally unstable, what may have been used against him by Rey, who is way calmer than him. In order to use Force properly, one needs to stay highly focused and relatively serene (even if that person is a user of the Dark Side,) what Kylo still needs to learn.
PS. Oh, one more thing - Chewbacca shot Kylo Ren before the lightsaber duel and fighting with a bleeding wound isn't the easiest thing, even if you're a prominent Force user.

It has bottom, but if it fell from that height, it would break. And repairing lightsaber is not easy for non-jedi. I found that plot element silly. And Ray sensing things from lightsaber? I thought that is not possible...

Using staff is one thing, sword is the other. Also, I know that duels between force users are based on force (you can 'sense' the enemy's movement) but Kylo was trained, and Rey discovered that she is a force user, like couple of hours ago. That was a little stupid. I know he was wounded, but still, he should be dark side's main player and he sucked a lot. IMO, the whole duel thing was forced too much.
As for being calm when using force, Sith code says different imo (the passion) thing, although it is non canon:
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.

SPOILER (seriously, it's a Star Wars opinion thread)
Well, after having seen the movie, I didn't have a major "WOW" experience walking out of the theater, but now that it has had a few hours to settle in, my view is this: it was an extremely well-done movie and I think it's going to settle into an extremely good trilogy as well.
The several positive features which avoided the pitfalls the prequels fell into it:
1) The new characters. I like them all. Rey. Finn. Poe. Kylo Ren. Ball Droid Dude. All of them are very good characters and none of them had a "wooden" performance.
2) Special effects served the movie well. They were present - and very well done - where they were necessary, but they were not at all used with the pornographic decadence of the prequels. Major plus.
3) Villain. I liked Kylo Ren very much. To me, he seems a lot like how Anakin should have been in the prequels. He's a young apprentice, and definitely not super powerful like Darth Vader (not yet), and he has some of the brashness and naivety of the young Luke Skywalker, but he didn't come off at all obnoxious or whiny. His performance and script lines weren't over-the-top like the horrid Anakin Skywalker in the 3rd episode. Very well done character so far I think.
4) Sufficient unanswered questions. How does Luke fit into the next chapter? How does the Temple of the Jedi fit into it? Why is Kylo Ren not a "Darth"? What is this "Awakening" they were referring to? Who is Snoke and where did he come from, since he seems to be well trained in the force? Plenty of material for the next episode and the next.
5) Humor. Did anybody notice how the prequels completely lacked it? There were some funny moments carefully placed into an otherwise serious movie. Well done with that.
I don't think the movie was too bad with repetition. There were some obvious - probably intentional - reoccurring signs from earlier episodes. 1) critical information placed into the care of a droid, 2) a gigantic space station to destroy, 3) a character falling off a high platform. All in all, these reoccurring signs are quite superficial though. The characters themselves are fresh. Rey lived on a desert world like Luke and she has the force, but she's a very different person both with her background and her personality. So, where it counts, the movie preserved its own novelty. Having a big station/ship to blow up was almost a given.
Would I compare it to episodes 4-6? No, not quite, but they're 30+ years older and they've had time to age like wine and become solidified as classics. Naturally, they're going to taste a little better, but I think Abrams & the actors should be commended for a very well done movie. Eagerly looking forward to the next one.
So what do you guys think? My opinion is infallible, but you can feel free to vainly disagree if you want.

1) The lightsaber didn't call her. She had a vision through the Force. Luke experienced the same thing in Empire Strikes Back, several times. Once with Obi Wan sending a message while he was on Hoth, and twice on Degobah. He saw Darth Vader as himself, and he saw his friends suffering in the city in the clouds.
2) A lightsaber is a sword. Anybody can use one. She already showed in the beginning of the movie (on Dakku) that she's proficient with melee weapons. The producers included that earlier scene intentionally no doubt.
3) Kylo Ren is not "Darth Ren". We don't know what he is, but he's a young apprentice at this point, which I like a lot. I think it would have been stale if they introduced another old & powerful Sith at the beginning of the new trilogy. I don't know why several users seem to think he's some ultra-trained Sith. And he was hurt.
4) I'm guessing Luke had some sort of protocol/program set in R2D2 for him to be activated at a certain point. We'll see this in the next movie.
5) You don't have to be a Jedi to use the force. Luke wasn't even self-identified as a Jedi until episode 6.

Went to the movie with medium expectation, and was not disappointed, or surprised. Its a average (or little above) movie that has a lot of good parts, and lot of bad parts.
The things I liked is the actors 90% of time and generally look of the movie for the most part. The dialogs and script was not bad also.
Thing I didnt like is the dumb story (star wars was never about the overall plot) but its even worse reused story that is very similar to original. The worst music score from all star wars movies. Using bad CGI with few characters/monsters, it looks very bad with real things in movie. The main villain actor is miscast, and is very annoying, reminds me of anakin snowing in prequels. The main actress acting is good, but strange. Its to much explicit, forced (not natural), reminds me of how it's done in theaters, and would explain her lack of experience in live movie acting.
So its 7/10, better than prequels, worst than original. The biggest disappointment is the music for me, as even prequels nailed the new music score. The biggest surprise is
SPOILERS:
Good acting of Harrison Ford. I guess he was happy that he got to die in this one after all this time, so doesnt need to coma back
SPOILERS END.
Also this is the first star wars (or better start of new trilogy) that didnt bring anything new to the table from technology/movie making on scene. Both original, and prequel (with abuse of CGI, blue screens and crap like that) did made a push for better or worse. Was hoping they would shoot space (more of planet) battle with combination of real models like original and CGI, but i guess that is to much work for them.

Well, Luke somehow survived this fall intact, so I guess a lightsaber can do the same thing.
Speaking of Force visions caused by objects - in "The Empire Strikes Back" there was a cave on Dagobah that was saturated with the Dark Side of the Force and it caused Luke to have a vision. A key element of the lightsaber, a Kyber crystal, is Force-attuned, what may also help its wielder in having viosions. Besides, this particular lightsaber was owned by two powerful Jedi, what means they could have influenced this weapon in terms of its affinity to the Force. In EU there were objects called "Sith Artifacts," which were filled with the energy of the Dark Side by Sith Lords that created them. If Sith Lords are able to do that, Jedi may have a similar power.

I agree, using word "calm" was a mistake. "Focused" would fit way better. He felt a wide array of negative emotions but he still is unable to use them properly, to gain advatage over Rey. He might have the technique (although I'd argue with that,) but he doesn't have the support of the Force (or at least as big support,) what Rey eventually got. As you've pointed out - these duels are primarly about the Force, although a good technique is very often enough even to pose a serious threat to a honed Jedi/Sith (see Pre Vizsla from "The Clone Wars") and in that aspect Kylo still has much to learn (as even pointed out by Snoke during final minutes of Starkiller base.)
Speaking of that duel - I started to think about an aspect of "A New Hope" not many people remember, meaning Luke's ability to pilot an X-wing. Yes, he was able to shoot desert rats from 2 metres while riding a speeder, but riding a speeder is quite different from flying a fighter, isn't it? Evven with a complete lack of experience he was perfectly able to fly it in such a way that only R2-D2 was damaged. Isn't that a little bit of a stretch? In my opinion Rey's capability to use a lightsaber in a sensible way is way more probable than Luke's ability to fly a X-wing.
By the way, here is a funny commentary on this duel. The caption says:
"If some still cannot comprehend why Rey kicked Kylo's butt in the final showdown (and I wrote about it in the comment under my review on the blog,) then I have a simpler explanation: it seems that Rey had more midichlorians."

It internally makes sense to me that it's easier to resist the mental attacks of the Force than it is to perform them. i.e. a Jedi Master still can't go around mind controlling a Jedi apprentice. Even with Poe, whose just a pilot, it seems like Ren had to really flex his muscles in order to get the information.
I got no canon lore to back me up or anything, but what would be the point of light saber duels if they can just mentally wrestle each other. The loser commits sepuko.

I am still wondering why Ren was bleeding from a blaster wound though, wouldn't the blaster cauterize it. Maybe Chewbacca's blaster is different or something?
