minor spoilers
What made the movie enjoyable for me was that there didn't have to be much in order to "get the feel" for the characters. All it took for Fin and Poe to bromance it out was ONE scene in the cock pit. That is what a good director with good actors can do. They couldn't get Anakin and Obi Wan to develop any chemistry in three whole movies ffs. This goes a lot for the director and great actors too. Ray is simply a great character, and I can't help but starting to root for her. Rays journey was amazing to watch. Maybe things come to her a bit easy, so some struggle would be welcome in next episode. But what makes a movie is a lot about loving the characters, and that works here.
And all the sweetness of hijacking a frigging Tie Fighter, just the scene in the hangar bay was simply amazing. Nerd chills all over, lol.
Kylo Ren is renewing the villain aspect in a positive way. He is not the ultimate weapon that Vader was but I think it would be folly to try to top that anyways. That scene where he "prays" to the helmet of Vader while having insecure feelings about his abilities, that is something usually heroes do. Dat moment when he has met his equal in Ray - you can see the panic in his eyes. Sweet sweet.
The plot is somewhat retarded, but since this is fantasy you kinda have to suspend your belief. Only part where I can't do that anymore is the Starkiller base. Lol. That has to be one of the most retarded concepts ever. And as always with epic movies the scale is pretty hard to grasp, and I don't think they do a good job here either. They destroyed several planets, and no one seems to have time to mourn over it or anything.
I would have wanted like +30 minutes more, to develop characters even further. Or just watch the awesome sceneries of this Universe. And boy are they great. Where Ray is scavenging the old Republics ships is simply mesmerizing, compare that to the CGI shyte that we had before and you get the difference.
Anyways, this is a great Star Wars movie. I give it 8+1 = 9. It gets 1 extra point for saving the franchise that is so beloved. Thank You JJ Abrams!

Kind of. This movie has such a fast pacing that most of the plotholes remain unseen during the screening and become visible only when you analize its plot. Besides, it's already been explained by Lucasfilm's story group - Poe escaped the wreckage, met another scavenger, who got him to a space port, where he picked up a ship and flew away.

The problem is that it' never been said during the film... It is in the film's novelization.

Am I entitled to feel better about myself because I knew about all of the points in the article?
PS. Do you know what's number two in terms of merchandise's sales? Pixar's Cars. This is also why we're getting Cars 3 in 2018 after a mistake that was Cars 2.

Really? I thought he was thoroughly unconvincing, and unevenly presented.
First half of the movie, helmet on: I'm a badass Jedi master who can stop laser beams with my hands.
Second half of the movie, helmet off: I'm an angsty teenage loser whelp who has hissy fits and couldn't scare a kitten out of a tree.
Really, when he removed his helmet the first time, I distinctly remember my thought was, "Really? This guy?"

Well I hate the cliché that a villain is completely undefeatable and indestructible until the very last moment when something like a weakness in ankle is his doom. (the classic). I like he is not complete, his lightsaber is supposed to be reflective of this also (unpolished). That aspect is what I mostly mean when I said that. But yeah I liked his character, even his odd looks Not his hissy fits though, lol

I loved everything about him, including his bouts of temper. Very real. Better than Darth Vader in New Hope imo. Yes, I'm serious. As much as I liked all of the protagonists as well, Kylo Ren dominated that movie.
I like his looks as well. Hollywood has perfected casting so well that it's sometimes a liability. Everybody looks the part so well that you lose the suspension of belief as you're immersing yourself in the movie. Plus you don't understand: Adam Diver is still a reasonably handsome man, with hair that I would scalp in the blink of an eye to claim for my own, and the purpose of taking the mask off was also directed towards the ladies of the audience. They see evil mingled with youth and sexiness and it excites in a way that they don't understand. You can even see it with Rey's moment of silence after he takes his mask off. As in, "Wait, you're suppose to look as horrible as you behave." The producers knew what they were doing. Yup.
The mask wasn't worn the way Vader wore it. It was just designed to shield his expression and voice, since he is an unstable young man. The mask is a way to feint strength.

definitely. felt human and like there actually is something to save, unlike Vader who was just "BLARGH, I'M EVIL no wait, now i'm good" towards the end without any buildup whats so ever. This guy, I can see eventually turning good. I can also see him continuing being Evil which is good. All the emotion and humanity shown is what reinforced that: He get's angry but also sentimental and stuff. way better than stoic nothing with occasional sudden head-shifts Vader had.
Kylo Ren is one of the more believable Villains so far in the franchise. Not as good as the Emperor in the Prequels but who could possibly beat that?!

I liked just about everything they did in the movie. Sure, it felt familiar, but that didn't mean it wasn't great. I wanted Star Wars and I got it.
And I agree wholeheartedly about Ren. Nevermind the Snoke mystery, he's gonna be the main enemy in the next movie I bet.
And Rey and Luke will probably be his opponents.

i thought the same thing, lol. i was like, "isn't that guy a jonas brother?"
but yeah, he did totally change when he took the helmet off. maybe it's a "mask on = murderous badass, mask off = pussycat" thing. like with michael myers from "halloween".
if you think about it, though, he had some kind of connection to masks anyway. he had darth vader's old mask, maybe that's where he feels he can draw his power, is with masks(like michael). he doesn't feel complete without one. kinda like when i wear a suit, i feel like a different person. a status change, if you will.

Cracked is good but sometimes they overact, and it's not as funny if you don't really agree with their specific jokes on a subject. I used to check the site every few days.
