Is there a future for Heroes?
Is there? Feels like I've been outside the news-cycle for quite a long time. Has anything happened on the Vivendi front? How did Erwin's China trip work out? How's Marzin doing? Are all the staff that used to work on the series for Ubi unemployed now?
Best thing that could happen is that the series market value, thanks to Erwin's raw stupidity and the general poor development, drop to such a level that we fans could do a kickstarter and buy it for JVC. Or that Vivendi would have the sense to at least hire JVC, Iwata, Ray and the others to do a game set in Axeoth finally continuing the story from vanilla H4...

Last I heard, that Showdown is going to be buried down as well. Servers are being shut down soon.
So far, it looks like they are staying in China or something. Hopefully the Chinese don't eat spiders to know they won't have any dealings with them.

I know that is unlikely but I especially want this scenario to happen. I was disappointed that the story and characters from the Heroes IV campaigns were discontinued in the expansions. I think I'd really enjoy a new game set in Axeoth.

To some extent, I guess the more H7 fails, the better - as it shows everyone how utterly incompetent team Erwin is at handling the development of any game. Though it's truly a rotten way of treating their customers...

We can only hope. It would probably be a great success. But I'm not overly optimistic. It's more likely that the business people at Vivendi or whatever have no understanding of art and look at how HoMM sales have dropped with the last games and comes to the conclusion that "nobody plays TBS no longer" rather than "nobody likes Erwin's snowty ideas and rushed, buggy games",
Oh, found this by googling:
Quote: Vivendi SA is considering making a bid for Ubisoft Entertainment SA by the end of this year as the French media giant presses for a deal despite resistance from the game maker’s founding family, according to people familiar with the plans.

prolly not, sadly. Ubisoft is not the company to take the risks necessary to revitalize it. Their idea of "safe" games is kinda the opposite of what a heroes should focus on, meaning they'll always fail if they keep doing that.

Strangely, I thought H6 was pretty innovative, which, as with H4, was actually its problem, too much innovation, not enough evolution.

Well, last time they tried to innovate they expected us to enjoy painting figurines so I only hope JVC gets the rights back.

Copyrights is banditism for boosting money grabbing by big concerns.
Ubi bought MM for only 1.3 mln !
Eg. H3HD is 400 th copies x 50$ = 20 mln $. It means if income is minimum 15% = 3mln. Only one game more than 2x than cost. But Ubi still sell old NWC titles and new titles. Only MMVII and MMX is fail. Rest titles was income. Biggest probably from DMaessiah. They earn 30 mln or more... For a long time they had get back invested money and Jon still dont have rights. Who is author HIII? Ubi? Always author is NWC! But has not author rights! Worst that 3do was bankrupted non NWC! NWC made good work only HCh was money grabbing and should never happend. But NWC goes down...
But I think that morning is near. Because now is absolute darkness. Before morning darkness is deepest... :-)

I think it's hard to blame the failure of a game on just one specific issue, it's usually a couple of factors contributing to that. For Heroes 6, I wouldn't say that too much innovation was what killed it, but maybe the fact that it was a flat out downgrade compared to its predecessors. What was it that they did to innovate? Remove the mage guilds, remove the classic skill system, remove strategy features in favor for RPG, made combats clunkier and slow, color code factions, and a lot of little stupid design decisions that made you wonder why you weren't playing Heroes 3 or 5 instead. Let's not even talk about DRM, bugs and lousy post-release support.
Heroes 7 remedied a lot of those on paper, but in reality things were even worse. The AI was incompetent, the skillwheel was a mess, spells were ugly (just cast implosion and compare it to Heroes 5), unit animations were uninspired, graphics lacked cohesion and looked a decade old, etc.
As of now, there is no reason to hope for a better future. Ubisoft is a bad producer for this type of game as it is for many others. Erwan le Breton and his team excel at missing the key features that made Heroes a great game to play and when they don't, they give it their best to render them as bad and cookie cutter and unenjoyable as possible. They lack good budget, a vision and a competent dev team with the capacity to deliver a working game.

Well the mage guilds, skill system and strategy features were all innovations. No-one said innovations had to be good after all.

Be fair. "Strategy feature" is fitting for making a difference between physical and magical damage and having might heroes boost physical damage and migic heroes boost magic damage.
I have a problem, though, to accept the MISSING of a feature as an "innovation".
The problem with H6 is that a decent enough budget was wasted on bollocks.

Well...It truly depends on the future or existence of these founders and creators...
...of Age of Heroes and its Forums' web-site called Heroes Community.
Tell me, what looks really awkward about this web-page: Age of Heroes' photos and descriptions of founders and original moderators.
What I can tell about that web-page is: That this set of Forums that makes up Heroes Community has been created and Web-Mastered by very young Post-Secondary Students that, in the right-now's world, really could not care if the Heroes of Might and Magic Series of games would continue to exist or not.
In conclusion, where do the new, real, team of administrators and moderators really do fit in that list of so-called responsible members of this Heroes Community's web-site

Ah come on you two! You'll have to re-read their biographies/descriptions
They keep saying that, for two of them, they joined the Web-Site in 2005(that's merely 12 years ago). These guys should be around 33-34 at the most right now(2017).
Vesuvius in 2001, a mere 16 years ago. Should still be way younger than me by at least 10 years. Could be 39-40 at most.
In other words, that web-page should have been seriously updated and, showing the true web-master that runs this web-site so darn smoothly like as if there is no distance at all between North-America and Europe. Only the clock truly tells me the time zones in between these two continents.

Ubisoft falling under Vivendi would be a catastrophy, just look at the french tv channel "Canal+" to see what Vivendi is all about and the fact that Activision have never been doing better than since they no longer belong to Vivendi !
A good HOMM8 would be the one that validate all the improvements/assets of HOMM6, besides that HOMM6 is the one which sold the best in the entire series, a few improvements have to be made of the HOMM6 assets/improvements in order to make it not too easy nor inesthetic, and include elements from the previous episodes
