Coronavirus Discussion Thread

I'm driving to Nag's Head, North Carolina next week. Kayaking, fishing, crabbing, biking, hiking, hang-gliding, etc. No more close contact in public spaces and no more enclosed spaces until this crap blows over.

I recommend doing outdoors stuff for the next month or so, ofr it's that's no possible, find yourself an awesomely addictive video game and go bananas.

Yes it's taken a moment to realize, but actually this whole situation sucks totally. Even if you're staying calm, it doesn't mean people around you will. Here are just some of the examples how this entire situation impacts me and people around me:

- In the event I'll contract the virus I can go sick, won't probably do much to me. But there is risk I will infect my parents (I see them quite frequently), and older people have it much worse with the virus
- My friend had a wedding planned in April. Just a moment ago I recieved an sms he postpones it to a later date
- I was planning go co on a concert of Wardruna in Poland in May. Probably my first live concert ever. Planned to go with friends, to spend a nice few days in Poznan. As things stand now, it won't happen probably as I doubt things will calm down until then
- Won't see people from work for the next 2 weeks due to work from home policy. Those are some nice folk, I like to spend my time with them. Next week we had this quartely corporate hang out time planned, I like those. Not gonna happen now
- No going out for a beer with friends. Was planning to see my mate who I didn't see for a while now
- Hard to go out, buy food, buy stuff you like. I don't even know if delivery services will work, I'm looking forward to play a game which is supposed to be delivered to me next week.

Some very normal and common stuff, and now it's all jeopardized...

Not to mention the s*it that will happen to our economy, home budgets. It will impact our pays (government will try to offset the losses), jobs etc. I can probably kiss my raise goodbye for a moment and I needed that cus I'm having some big expenses in the future. Plus, if this will take longer, most folk will start to go crazy. Families will start to bicker, prices will go up, supplies will become limited, and we still don't know what the next day will bring: martial law?

The only hope is that with higher temperatures (Spring) the virus will have shorter lifespan. I mean it need 98 Celsius degrees to die, but in hotter temperatures it lives shorter.

I am a little spooked. Cashiers at any store are touching money all day.

And it was cool getting a bag full of tissue paper. I know this is a hot commoditie right now.

We Dutchies all have our priorties in order. Now that further measures have been announced (which include closure of pubs/bars/cafes etc), we're all queuing in front of our local 'coffeeshops' to get our fix before they close too.

'We' as in, the ones who use these kinds of services.

oh, but I just purchased The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing - Final Cut, from gog and will gonna play the snow outta it while I'm quarantined at home. Previously I have only finished each part of the trilogy individually, but the FC has improved the series a lot (more classes, higher level cap, etc.) so...

Moreover, a new expansion has come out for Titan Quest last year, which I have obviously not played since I have only played TQ once, many years ago. So, I acquired that expansion from gog as well, and it's time to replay TQ at least 2-3 times, since it has high replayability value.

Last but not least, Vaporum. They have added new content to the game after I have beaten it 15-16 times on BRUTAL, so I gotta replay it more now so I can check out the new exo rig, circuits, and modules. Moreover, Vaporum Lockdown (part 2 of the series) is coming out this month and from the teaser and devs' blog is looking even more bada55 than the first one

So yeah, I'm not leaving my room for the next 2-3 months

It is not the end of the world but the sleeper phase of the virus is long, which means it can spread a lot without people realizing it. Other than that, the death ratio is something like 0.2 percent unless you are really old or have some specific immunity problems. So countries like Italy and Japan where people really live long have the bigger problem..

Waiting 2-3 weeks for it to explode where you're at.

Are you still in Istanbul or did you move to the countryside?

Boris' policy is bat**** and I love it. Just wished theyd double down on it.

Essentially it's: let's spread it and grow an immunity fast. Downside is to protect the elderly n the infirm we still need the precations so it's just another instance of wantin to keep the cake n eat it.

I live in Ayvalik now, for like 3 years or so. Not exactly the countryside but more like your small mediterrenean town by the seaside with beaches and stone houses.

You don't necessarily get all of your lung capacity back after pneumonia so I'm perfectly okay with dodging it until I can stick myself with a vaccine.

I've read an article that even if in this very moment a vaccine will be discovered (and supposedly some labs are very close) it'll still take like 12-18 months to get it rolling

Yeah! Tests, follow ups... Even if they already have it they need to test it before they know they got it and that part can't be rushed.

Any toilet paper shortages in the states like we're having down here in Australia? The coronavirus hasn't hit my town yet but even then you can't find bog rolls on the shelves.

TP rationing can go *BLEEP* itself for all I care.
