Adding "Discuss" in a platform with a max of 280 characters is definitely an interesting choice. Dude is clearly getting advanced in years.

If you came across a trans and/or nonbinary person, how would you respond to said person?

Depends entirely on the context of the encounter and my mood. For the sake of argument, let's say I meet them somewhere where there are no other people.
Trans: no different than I would any other person of the gender they present as.
Nonbinary: see above. Unless they try to push their nonbinarity on me, then I'd just laugh in their face and walk away.

Based man.
As for that question, you wouldn't know their gender anyway, it's not like they have a giant bulge or anything of sorts, so one would go with the apparent gender. The trans or whatever can make ahem, "objections" if they feel like it I guess (although it's technically still a "he" for trans-women and the such, of course, so I'd most probably go with that kekw).
Edit: Dang, two posts went ahead of mine, I took a bit of time.

It's not about making an effort, it's about "live and let live" ...which is more than I can say about most people that buy into the "nonbinary" crap.

Richard Dawkins:
I do not intend to disparage trans people. I see that my academic “Discuss” question has been misconstrued as such and I deplore this. It was also not my intent to ally in any way with Republican bigots in US now exploiting this issue.
In. Any. Way.

Well, your question seems to be immersed in a categorical mistake. Scream and shout all you want, but there is no such thing as a trans person, period. Our species, differently from, say, the fungi Schizophyllum commune, has two, and only two, sexes: male and female. Individuals of the male sex are born with XY sex chromosomes whereas females are born with XX sex chromosomes. Chromosomal abnormalities (such as Klinefelter syndrome) are exceedingly rare and do not constitute a new sex. The psychological phenomenon to which you allude has always been treated as a disorder, that is to say, a deviation from the standard behavior, which should be medically treated and, under extreme circunstances, cirurgical intervation might be required. Since 2019, though, that is no longer the case,
Quote: In the latest manual, called the ICD-11, gender incongruence is defined as a marked and persistent incongruence between a person's experienced gender and assigned sex.
In the previous version - ICD-10 - this was considered a gender identity disorder, in the chapter entitled mental and behavioural disorders.
Dr Lale Say, a reproductive health expert at the World Health Organization, said: "It was taken out from mental health disorders because we had a better understanding that this was not actually a mental health condition, and leaving it there was causing stigma.
source: https://www.bbc.com/news/health-48448804
Pay attention to that phrase in bold - we're no longer on the realm of science, for scientists are pandering to the woke crow, they're no longner describing a medical condition, but rather adjusting the facts themselves to conform to gender theory.
All that said, that doesn't mean that if a girl asks me personally to call her a boy I won't do so - for the same reason I will not call names a fat person; it's a courtesy, as Dr. Dawkins puts it, nothing more than that.

In case the gender is unclear, the English language uses the plural...
That said, "they" is intrestingly enough a possible gender choice when you edit your character in the BATTLETECH computer game...

I had a (not very intelligent) professor who marked off points for using 'they' in the singular, but generally speaking, it is fine to use 'they' as a generic pronoun for the single person.
