Why do you think nuke weapons can't be shot? After all, a rocket is not a meteorite, and most nuclear weapon is from the previous century after all. Nobody knows what nuclear weapon is, actually. Last time it was two bombs from a plane, and you can easily shoot down a plane.

Yes Ukraine has the Soviet nukes.. the Soviet built in the 1962.. But later told about Molvoda where are weapon warehouse, but the Soviet time.. and Russians guarded weapons.. I can't remember about the Russian force.. If Molvoda is too important to Russia.. So in there must be nukes.. Bad negotation! When they go to war without talking about closing and disposal nukes.. also an odd other etc Aren't Russia has negotation skill..

Ok yesterday should be UN, but today is UN, Russia said/used 51a.. Ok 100 supported, 11 opposed, 58 empties and 20 don't participate a vote.. Then 100 vs 89 something way - the world is a two distribution..

It after Catalonia must be independent, etc

Alas, Ukraine doesn't have them anymore, else there wasn't any war.

I don't really get the nuke argument unless I'm missing something obvious. Poland or Lithuania are just slightly further away (Lithuania closer to some Russian cities) and nobody uses 1960s warheads anymore. If Russia decided to nuke D.C. today it would be able to do it in under an hour and nobody could stop it from happening.

It's just something to say because it sounds good. It's really just a pre-emptive invasion to try to get the jump on NATO over Europe's most contested and divided country. Putin has openly lamented the loss of influence and territory post-USSR. It's not a secret.

@JJ: Never say never, but even if they never became NATO they could squeak around the edges, get various arrangements, equipment, favors, etc. Stuff that would make Russia mad, and already has. It doesn't justify an invasion, but it does explain it. People always have motives.

Most nukes are either delivered by:
- Air planes
- Medium range ballistic missiles
- Naval ballistic missiles
- Artillery
- ICBM

All of these can be shot down by modern AA systems. It is wholly possible that US missile defences could shoot down each and every Russian warhead aimed at continental united states. There are not that many modern (nuclear capable) missiles capable of reliably penetrating modern systems. They are also very, very expensive.

It’s still not a valid argument though. Much more a guestion of influence. Comparable would be canada allying with china and converting to a communist country for the US. Remember that arms don’t threaten autocratic governments. Liberty and democracy do.

This situation just underscores how it's important to have own nuclear weapons for any country to maintain its sovereignty.

So, I don't blame Iran. Iran is wise county, actually. And agree with the ex-Prime Minister of Japan. Japan needs nuclear weapons to defend itself.

35 members are indifferent, and only 5 support Russia. But does UN have any power now? Or we just used to believe it has?

If it would be that easy, it would have happened already...several times
But believe me, it is a bit more complicated...and it is too difficult nowadays to hide such intensions...

How many times impotent UN has condemned Israel and nothing happened? 45 times, for violation of human rights, embargo until it withdraws from all territories occupied in 1967, calling for an establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, etc etc.

At this point, I think we may agree UN is  just a bunch of "seeking attention" bureaucrats, without any real power or influence. They recall how things should function at surface level, real politics are not binary.

That's no fatwa. That's FAIR. I mean, maybe you don't get it, but there's a war on and when it's finsihed the 2nd biggest European country will be rubble.

Why that doesn't surprise me, coming from you? Calling for democracy, sovereignty and freedom but only when its about you and your dictatorial tendencies. All others must walk in straight lines and recite what YOU decided they have to.

How we usually call the "you say the phrase I tell you to, or you're fired" thing?

And even more, what about we apply it at all Jewish artists and personalities around the world, because as you name it, its exactly the same spectrum. Do you agree with?

Why would we apply it to all Jewish artists?

On another note: Would Selenskyj be justified to hire a couple of ninja assassins to kill Putin?

Sanctions may backfire, look at what it has done to the M.E.
No western politician has appetite for casualties -good move by Russia today- so it may actually work. You need boots on the ground, and not even Ukrainians seem interested.

It's been 30 years Putin shouts about not wanting NATO near his borders. That DOESN'T however justify attacking Ukraine.

You don't understand. If you were, say, France near Russian border and wanted to join NATO, and Russia told you - hey, you can't be a friend with NATO, stay neutral or join us for protection! Do you really believe in that France agreed? Ukraine just suffers geopolitically. That's it. Like its neighbor Belarus.

Well, when I was a schoolboy I've been taught that some institutions have power to keep world safe. Now I see how one agreement after another becomes just words on a paper. Where are those people who swore to defend international agreements? Anyone knows that any rule may be broken, but if so, how to believe and obey rules, which was invented by the history of wars itself? Where are the forces that make them legitimate? Who do you think should enforce them? God? Martians?
