I love bacon, too. But I quail at endangered species being killed like pandas.

All cows can do is.. OOOOOOOOooo and mOOoo

If we turned into cows, and cows suddenly had our bodies.. I'd be chargin their arses, and having sex with all the girl cows.

They're not evolved enough to figure out the symology in sounds to form meaning-words, and mechanics would take awhile too. So I would figure out how to steal keys, and use them with my mouth.

Hunting for food isn't cruel...but hunting endangered species for sport or for skin/tusk/tails is VERY cruel.

I eat meat.

Interesting subject, and this is related.

Basically they are putting 100-300 implants in a monkey's brain, and the monkeys are actually playing a game that could require a joystick just by thinking.

This may not be the most comfortable for the monkey... but can you imagine in a decade or two being able to fit a quadrapalegic with prothstetics that move by thinking?

It could seriously let them walk again, just by thought... and have a new life not having to live in a nursing home.

So do you think it is worth it?

I don't think that is a question that can be answered objectively.

It is unlikely that you're typing with a pencil and have no use of your arms or legs.  Until you have to do that, you can't know how you'd answer that type of question.

I don't remember Christopher Reeve touting stem cell research before a horse fell on him.

i agree, but there are alternatives to animal testing. but why are they doing tests on animals? because they don`t look like us and can`t say `noŽ?

1. I think it may be because if they attempted to put untested implants in my brain, I might object.  Heck, I might sue.

2. They also did an autopsy on the aliens that landed in roswell (likely making their organs difficult to test), and no new landings have been confirmed.  So the availablility of alien test subjects for medical research is slim to none.

3. Monkeys and rats are notorious for having little, if any, legal representation on a personal injury level.

I can only conclude that legally, there really is no alternative to animal testing if we hope to advance as a species.

Here is a list of alternatives:

1. The study of humans

2. Human cell cultures

3. Tissue cultures

4. Computer programmes that are able to tell us how the human body will react to any given substance.

And probably the most amazing of all, the human model. It comes in all shapes and sizes. It can answer questions on symptoms and side effects it is feeling. It pees into bottles when ordered and hasn't got hairy skin to shave when finding a vein for blood tests. It eats regular food available anywhere and develops an incredible range of diseases without much effort which is enough to entertain armies of scientists.

ok,i read it.
1. it is not true that nobody wants to do experiments on animals.some enjoy doing that.
2.it is also not true that those experiments are neccesary.
even the scientists who do it, admitted that.

"1. it is not true that nobody wants to do experiments on animals.some enjoy doing that."

Yes, some enjoy doing experiments on animals.  They're 8 years old, with an electric razor, a few rubber bands, and a lot of shaving cream.

I don't know what they are trying to do with their experiments, but neither do they.

Any adult scientist that gets some perverse glee out of testing on animals, and isn't in it for the thought of the lives they can possibly save, has serious psycological problems.

Mad scientists are not the subject of this thread.

LoL!

I absolutely love this thread. I have no opinion on the matter but this was a very entertaining read. Melissa_X should have read this thread before starting her discussion a while ago. It might have helped her understand things a bit better.

LoL, what a funny thread. I didn't learn anything new but I had a great time reading it. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Ok lets say something to everything what was mentioned here.Cloning-absolutely bad idea, the cloned people would have their own feelings like us.
Testing on the animals?I think its absolutely cruel and bad.Who has given the right to people to make experiments on animals?
If they are trying to make some really really important cure for some deadly disease maybe in that case the loss of the animals would be helpful,
but when someone is trying to make some new deodorant or some stupid spray on hair i absolutely would punish the scientist for doing that.
Im crying every time when i see some animal how it is tortured and slowly dying
People are very cruel, how much time have you seen some violence on animals with your own eyes?I didnt, only few times and i always helped the animal and started shouting on the people what they thinking they doing, lucky for the animals that tehy werent hurt or anything else.
When I would see someone torturing animal and laughing about it ,I would beat him at least so he would remember this moment to the end of his life.
I would kill everyone for killing animals only for fun and for the feeling that
"Im the boss now ,look at me,i shot the elephant right between his eyes, yeahaaaa, great job"
In take animals equal to people and Im not thinking about what are other people saying,i know that animals arent the bad here, because the worst evil are we,people.
We are ruining all what the nature has given to us and we dont appreciate it.People will understand to live with nature when it will be nothin left
