Quote: I just think some of the attitudes I've witnessed above are very sad and smack of over-blown self importance.
Now now meroe easy where did I ever say something about anyones posts not being worth anything? Or talk about the worth of anyone? I never did and it wasn't my intention to begin with.
I can't really speak for the concerns or the things that intimidate "newbies" since it's been quite a while for me but all I tried to say was that people who don't say yes to a QP aren't elitists or self-important wannabes by default.
Some comments may be out of place or stem from a misplaced sense of grandeur but they don't have to be.
I mean what do you mean "negative comments like these"? As far as I know every newbie (with the exception of ffs) is appreciated wherever he or she posts. I'm sure you all have posted QP-ish stuff before but the boards outside the Heroes related stuff don't have any to little moderation so one of the biggest sources of QPs for new people is being "denied" to you.
When I was talking about discussion keeping QPs at a level where they are "worth" something (where they are still special) I wasn't implying that anyone of you hadn't posted something QP worthy. I was talking in general.

Yeah lol. I figured I'd be able to do some good around here. I'm more active than most of the moderators so yeah, figured I'd give it a shot. I doubt I would have had any support but I did it anyway.

I would endorse you, after all you have an ADHD and you like to fight, what's there not to like about you + you can't be worse than the non-existing mods, the only time I've seen an actual mod was when we were discussing sports... Which kind of sums it all up considering that 90% of the people here hate sports... Will the MOD, sounds good enough to me

Agree! The OSM and the Tavern need it... As does the Glade... And the VW... and the Colosseum... And everything that Elvin doesn't ignore...
We need more than two new mods...

I been getting alot better now excluding the Blizzard thing!
MVass deserves a QP for not speaking english as a first language
I bet he has a cute accent
Nothing funnier then listening to people trying to speak proper english LOL.

gnomes:
If I was mod I probably wouldn't give it a QP, but I'd understand if one was awarded. And that's only one post - they collectively need a lot more to have no posting limit.
william:
I'd be more positive if I had more to be positive about. Also, saying it's a good post would make no sense in context:
poster: This post deserves a QP.
me (disagreeing): Yeah that was a good post, keep contributing!
Doesn't sound like I'm disagreeing, then.
As for scrapping the QP system, maybe that's a good idea, but there are too many things tied to it - the posting limit, floodprotect, the ability to rate topics, a way to punish bad posters, etc. If QPs were eliminated, how do you suggest implementing all that?
But I do agree that we need more mods, and I endorse you.
Acu:
Actually, I've been told I don't have an accent.

Haha I guess it is an accent depending on where your from.
If your from England in London, it is not an accent to them as much as other countries or states.
To me Mainstream American is normal lol.

Thanks for the endorsements. If only Val would see this.
However, you don't have to disagree with it. What I'm trying to say is is that just because it's north a QP doesn't mean it's a good post. By constantly saying (not just you but others too) that this isn't worth a QP then it discourages people in posting. Like, I know this is a weird example but at work if somebody comes up to me and says that is a crap job then it just gets me down a little because others may think it's good but that one person who says it's bad makes me feel like that. If people were to be more positive and say yeah you've done a good job when I have done a good job then I'd be more willing to work there. People won't want to post here if when somebody says their post is worth something or is good and then somebody says it's not worth something and it isn't that good. Positivity and encouragement is what keeps people here. Sure, it may not have been worth a QP but try to be more positive towards people even if you don't think it is worth something. You can say "Nice work, keep up the good job". That makes people happier and you may even find it may make you happier.
About the QP system, perhaps, like the silence function, moderators can change posting limits for those that seem to spam a lot. Tie all the things the QP's do now regarding posting and give it to the moderators. If a user is clearly not a spammer and contributes something here without having posts that'd be consider QP worthy then a moderator could just remove the limit for that person. There's a lot of users here who do contribute something to this forum but are plagued by limits. Meroe is a fine example.

But I'm not saying their posts are crap. This is more like someone coming up to you and saying something like, "This is one of the best things you've ever seen in your lifetime, isn't it?" and the answer is "No". When I say "It's not QP-worthy" I mean "It's not QP-worthy" - not "It's crap" or "You're a bad poster".
As for giving mods more discretion, that opens up too many opportunities for abuse.

I didn't say that you said their posts were crap but you're overly negative and it can bring some people down. It's the way in which you type here that many may think you're saying what they post is crap. I'm probably guilty of the same thing but I'd like to think I'm positive at times as well to balance things out.

I have to agree with Mvass here.
This is a feedback thread. So of course everyone can feel free to point out a +qp post (in HIS/HER opinion), while on the other hand others can disagree and tell it here.
The Mod can read the mentioned post, can listen to what other members think about it (if it isn't obvious that is...) and then decide.
Please don't be discouraged only because you haven't recieved a +qp to a good post after 1 or 2 days. I often do not have 1 hour to read to all posts and threads which were made in 1 day in my fora. So I often wait some days, maybe a week or 2 soemtimes and then take my time and reread most of the things.
The best (for me) still is a post mentioned here, because this is much easier to spot.
