I agree about the voting problem.
RSF had suggested a while back that we try a Contest where people actively get others involved in voting. They could send IMs or emails to everyone or they could even Post stuff in other threads, in order to get people to vote for them.
It would be called the Campaign Contest...sort of how people go around Campus and try to get students to vote for them as Student Council President, Treasurer, etc. OR how a Government official hits the campaign-trail and makes speeches to his constituents.

I guess the problem is that there's nothing in it for them - and why should they care to waste one flood-protect to vote in some silly game, when they doesn't even get anything [material] back from it?
EDIT: I will try to make people remember to vote in the MYT by replacing my Mordechai Vanunu appeal with a small reminder to our less-than-bright fellow HC'ers.

That's a good point, but I somewhat disagree. As you have said yourself, it only takes a few minutes to read the entries & vote. Add to that, the fact that the entries have been getting much better with every Round, then it should be worth their while to read & then vote.
But, maybe we should explore the idea of a reward for frequent voting non-members. We could have yearly MYT GAME Awards and have specific categories for members and a special category for people who vote the most often, without actually playing in the GAME.
Or we could come up with some ideas that are actually good, unlike mine!

At this stage, no ideas are too stupid.
My idea was to let the votes of non-participants count as 1.x votes (0 < x < 1), but I doubt that would make them flock around to vote...

That's a very good idea actually!
I'll let it simmer for a while and keep it as a back-up plan, in case the voting gets worse or dies off completely.
That will be a good addition to RSF's idea...and mine too.

I was thinking about the electoral system of Australia and Belgium last night, and suddenly, a thought struck me.
Why don't we adopt something similar to what these countries have done to raise the participation in elections?
In case any of you doesn't know what they've done (ignorant infidels! ), here's the answer:
In Belgium and Australia, if you don't vote, you get a fine. The way we could adapt this to the MYT Game, could be by giving participants a -1 vote in their own contests if they didn't vote in other people's contests....
The problem here would of course be that people could have RL events that obstructs them from getting online, and from letting us know that they are...
Still a suggestion, though. :\

Perhaps we could give them a small token of appreciation - say, a piece of pixelart - as a reward for voting, or for voting often.

If someone were willing to create Pixelart for that particular purpose, then I don't see why we couldn't implement the idea.
The reward could be given monthly to someone who votes in MYT GAME Contest Threads, but who isn't a participant. What do think???

Not a bad idea, Leo!
EDIT: Leo, I saw that you hadn't recieved my entry for the contests against Conan, but I am 100% sure that I e-mailed it to you, well before the time limit...

I'm sorry Terje, but I never received an email from you. Even if it had an attachment, which was blocked by the Firewall, I would still have seen your email...
So, you can ask Conan if he's willing to give you another crack at it in a new Contest or simply allow your entry to be submitted once more...
Let me know what he thinks, it's totally up to him.

I'll ask Conan and se what he thinks, yes.
