Quote: Daddy, um, could you show me where have I said anything about a DEVIL in H5?
Well, would be here:
Quote: I made the mistake to look again at the previous versions of devils. the H3 was sublime in aspect and motion. H4 started screwing things up (by trying to make him more "frightening", perhaps) and compiled a skul, claws, red muscles and wings of burned out matches and what they accomplished was creating a creatures worthy of Doom, maybe, but totally unworthy of Heroes.
Now Nival is carving the tombstone of Heroes by pumping up muscles (I bet Schwarzenegger is envious), legthening the horns, intensifying the colour, adding more skulls, more claws. That's the apanage of stupidity, betting on quantity...
Quote: Yeah, very nice that angel, make sure you vote for it on my poll (that's option no.5, ok?), and how ironic that it is immobile in a picture. Is that a bad picture or a Ubi-design? Or maybe our Angel is simply not photogenic...
Hey, calm down Yeah, ok I see that the word immobile was quite wrong-picked here as speaking of a screenshot But still, I think they look kinda flat...

Yeah, you gave me the whole post as an example, but can you show me precisely where did I use the words "devil" an "H5" in the same context. Because mentioning them in the same post doesn't necessary relate them as you seem to think.
I can explain if you want:
1. "devil" - first paragraph, when talking about H4 compared to H3. of course this comparison is brought up by the hell alignment of H5, but no mention of H5 if you read carefully.
2. The second paragraph brings forward the "H5" context. Now I talk about a ridiculous increase of sizes and numbers IN GENERAL in the hell alignment. If you read again carefully you will not find any sign of devils there. Horns and claws doesn't necessarily mean devils.
3. The two paragraphs are logically related by the fact that the screenshot sends me to the hell alignment, then I review an example from H3 and H4, then generalize only to get back to H5 and close the logical circle.
OK, so now it should be clear.
Btw, did you cast your vote to keep the angel? I'll be very dissapointed in you people if you don't fulfill Gerdash's anticipation of 1:10 in favor of change. Prove him (and me) right, c'mon.

Unit design is practicly the most important aspect of Heroes...
And I don't like the design they are going right now.
Anime is not a single style, there are many sub-styles ranging from "big eyes, plam-like hair and redicolous proportion" to far more realistinc looking ones.
Personally, I don't think an anime style fits the heros.
Look at the angel - is that supposed to be female? It has broader shoulders than Arnold and looks like a hand puppet. The redicolous can-opener sword (that ring thing is totally against any sense whatsoever in terms of funcuality), the carpet-like robes...
H IV was a fluke, and everyone was complaining about "units and castles being better in H2&3".

I don't like the looks of the game. The landscapes are fair enough, but the creatures! Mercy on my soul, they're ugly! But then, it's only some unknown screenshots. I want some movies to see movement, menus, attacks, spells... When some movies arive, I'll say more.

To Gerdash and Hydra,
Sorry, I was not talking to specifically to either of you so you don't need to defend yourselves. If I was talking to anyone in particular, it would have been the people that assumed there will be no button overlay because they didn't see one in the screenshots, or the people that assumed you will have to play the whole game at the skewed camera angles of the screenshots. Those were the ridiculous assumptions I was talking about.
So just to say it again: Hydra, you were analyzing and theoryzing rather than assuming and there's nothing wrong with that. Gerdash, I was not looking at specific quotes of people in that topic, just the general consensus.
Any one person can say they didn't ask for it to look like what we have now, but if you just look at the general idea of what people said in the topic from my previous pos, it sounded like people wanted a Heroes 2 type of look which was described primarily as fantasy, non-realistic, and colorful. After that it was more open to interpretation. I would say these screenshots are colorful, non-realistic, and fantasy- exactly what was asked for. Now it sounds like the community is saying Heroes 3 graphics is what they want, but months ago while Nival might have been cruising various boards for artistic inspiration people wanted something else. And we GOT something else. I applaud that responsiveness from Nival, although I don't expect them to change the graphics now.

Aren't Angels supposed to be sexless? Which is exactly what this angel looks like to me.
Anyway, the graphics isn't that important to me. It's gameplay, replayability, and stuff like that which matters...

He, it has to be me, right? Cause there's no one else left... well, then: I like colour, non-reality and fantasy (btw, what's the difference between the last two?) therefore so long as ubi delivers a game that is not black&white and is free of tanks and nuclear weapons I should be pleased.
I also happen to think that there is a looooong way from H2 to H5 in what the creatures are concerned, but then again, it might be just me.
You have however a point when you say that the camera angle might be askewed and we make ridiculous assumptions (sorry, I make ridiculous assumptions). That's because usually, when screenshots are released, one would expect them to be from the map, the castle, the battle, you know.... not just distorted angles. And once again, a crappy creature will stay crappy no matter the angle.
Sorry for not applauding. If Nival ever cruised this forum, then next time they should reduce the speed.

Armie Numbers?
Hey, I'm a dedicated HOM&M fanatic...
When I have seen these screenshots, one thing comes to my mind: Where are the armienumbers???
On earlier Heroes games there are armienumbers on the top of the creature. Can someone tell me a theory?
One thought I come up with is that there are a adventure screenshot, or only if the creature is damaged you can see the armienumbers???

Greetings all.
To me the biggest excitement here is that the game is actual being developed!
Regarding the screenshoots, i am mostly getting a warning signals here! And they are in big red lettters!
For me and i think most people would agree heroes is first and all a STRATEGY game! And as said here a chesslike turnbased one
Now for me any kind of visual improvement to a turnbased game is spice added to the meal. Nice if done right , but not the basics of the meal. And defently not there to take over the whole eksperience.
Now my main consern is while 3D looks nice , does it actual do anything for this strategy game?
anything except a nice first time playing eksperience
Replayability is (again in my expereience) not based on the visual candy in a turnbased strategy game. But alot more on how the game actual support the playing experience, and sucseed in leting the deepth of the game unfold!
If i had to play zooming in and out on the adventure map in different angels in 3D to eksplore and conquer the map, my gaming experience replaying the game would surely loose something. And if i have to look at to many non essential things well....
This does not means that 3D is bad for this game. But to not loose Heroes central Nerve, the adventure map does need to be perfeckt in supporting the analyzing studying and planning aspeckts of this turned based strategy game.
And in that case to much visual eye candy can actually takes away from the gaming experience!
So to sum it up, even though the pictures looks very nice, its does remind me of the need for a perfect symbolic and playable visual represantation of the adventure map, where eyecandy does not come in the way for the analyzing and planning aspeckt of the game.
Because that is the games core! At least for me!
With regards!

as usual, there seem to be people who play the game more competitively (for gameplay) and people who play the game more for the atmosphere (for graphics).
btw i like this 3d view because in the most positive case i guess it might create a playing atmosphere that is more immersive than ever seen in homm before. zooming might be made easier by e.g. having the space bar toggle between adventure map view and close view.
on the other hand i think the 3d view could turn out badly as well, just as creating good 3d (creature) graphics needs imho more thought than copying warcraft or etherlords graphics that have the mainstream reputation. now that they (imho) have messed up the creatures, they might also mess up the 3d view. or did they put all effort in doing the 3d view on expense of creature graphics?
btw we don't know for sure if there will be a strategical map view. remember the first town concept art?

some angels are depicted as small fatty infants, butt-naked and with red cheeks. so angels might be supposed to be children. I think making them teen-agers was a compromise (bless the infinite wisdom of Nival)

Terje, fantasies have a limit before becoming sickening... I've seen quite a few fantasy books and movies, but never have I came close to something like that sword. That's hilarious. Angels shoud have some self-respect and purchase a nice sword, not the russian version (as big as it gets). If they wanted to combine the wapon with the cross symbol, they could have done it in saner ways.

The point I was trying to make, though it may not have been too competently done, is that the shape of the Angel's sword's hilt couldn't really mean less to me. I mean, it's not even a minor detail!
