1 cows - no comment lol
2/3 minos and thunders - mino deals huge damage and has awesome stats for L5, thunder bad stats except hps but fast, flying and nasty special
4/5 power lich/pit lord - lich is a cool shooter, pit decent damage and demon hording possible
6 master genies - fast and spell casting rocks, rest average
7 zealot - no stats
8 dendro - slower than a L1 creature and sucking stats
9 magma - just bad for L5

with just low level spells and average pre-topia-stats its impossible.

I win any Utop with 3 Chaos and 3 Dragonflies, as long I have Advanced Haste(Or normal Haste+Speedart), nothing else matters.
(Maybe Haste must last 2 turns, not sure about that)

sorry moon but its impossible with low attack and defense. the hydra effect doesn't work if ur stats suck too much . and with 3 drags flys only the 4th drag stack ,the reds ,attack the hydras and u lose one for sure and u gonna die faster than u can type " help"  .
btw. moon u ever tried the hydra effect on 130 % ?

Thats wrong. 3. Dagonfly goes before other Dragons, I cast Haste(advanced) Chaoshydras go next, attack Golds+Blacks.
I didnt test it on 130%, can be, it is otherwise there. I dont play Fortress over 100%, because of low Wood then.

what u forget moon is that with low defense the drags give a *** bout ur flys lol. they go for ur chaos and u are dead meat.
You need good defense ( better + armorer skill) to use the hydra effect vs. strong critters.

Agreed...
I played fortress for a very very very long time ...
THe 3 choas hydra effect works well in 1 of two conditions.
att and def 11+ with armory skill (often will work 9 defense on tazar) But who will have 9 defense on tazar in topia. lol what level 5?
or with att def 6 + with res (so no cursed ground) this strategy also requires 4 stacks of 2 lizards. Many time the drags (opn 100%) will set themselves up so lizards can have them blast each other and set up perfect for the hydras.

Get 1 AD in topia, cast force fiels (need edvanced earth for 3 hex field), hide AD behind field, dragons defend. Next turn you wait, dragons defend, you attack with ne retaliation. Next turn renew forcefiels and hide, and so on. You need A LOT of mana to do it with 1 AD tho, so not very practical. With at least 3 AD it may work for inteligence specialist

Hehe you've got a serious problem. Do not underestimate the Power of the Power Lich (the name is symbolistic) for they are a force to be reckoned with. Even in small numbers, they have no match between the other archers in the game. As for being a fifth level creature, a little bit of animate dead and your cows will end up beef. Whahahaa

Yes, Liches are great range troops, and they're probably the only level 5 that has much of a chance in a major battle in equal numbers against the Mighty Gorgon (a few level 5s could possibly beat the cow in one-on-one with some luck). But overall, the cow is much better. Even without their special, they're a 5th-level tank, so to speak - 70 hp is very high for 5th level, and their defense skill is very good as well.

Wow, so many of these "best XXXXth level XXXXX" discussions around.
I'd have to throw my lot in with... Magma elementals!!! or not...
I hate being part of the majority (I wanna be the minority!) but Mighty MOOOOOOs win it for me. Thunderbirds in a close second. Liches third, and they just sorta fall behind after them. I just haven't found a real good use for Dendroids though, I just can't stand things that slow.

Yes, indeed, there are some level 6 troops with that HP (or close). But nevertheless I like the Liches. Itt's about the favourite not the best. As for Titans, they're not level 5. Or did I say ALL the archers? Sorry...

A not very scientific comparision, but still...
20 level 5s attack 1000 Peasants or 39 Medusa Queens
200 level 5s attack 5 Azure Dragons
Ranking:
1. Mighty Gorgons (what a surprise), will defeat the opponents 100% of the time - loses only 17 against the dragons
2. Minotaur Kings, will always defeat the peasants, the medusas 99% and the dragons 96% of the time.
3. T-birds, will always beat the medusas and dragons, but loses to the peasants 25% of the time.
4. Pit Lords, will beat all opponents 75% of the time.
Ranking of place 5-8 is not that straightforward
5. Power Liches, will always beat the peasants, the medusas 1% of the time and always lose to the dragons
6. Dendroid Soldiers, will beat the dragons 95%, the peasants 1% of the time, but always lose to the medusas
7. Zealots, will beat the peasants, but lose to medusas and dragons
8. Master Genies, will beat the dragons 29%, the medusas 2% of the time, but always lose to the peasants
9. Trolls, will lose against all opponents
10. Magma Elementals, will lose against all opponents and leave higher numbers than the trolls
