Just remembered something critical.
People! Do any of you use an overall program that fixes all of the machine's hardware and software
Well, if no, let me tell you of a program that makes wonders onto my old single core machine and, this duel core one.
It is called: Iolo's System Mechanic Pro(x64) version 9(updated up-to 9.5.6). Once you install this marvelous suite of tuning programs, let it do a Full System Scan of your entire machine. You will not believe the number of errors it will find.
At first, windows is found as being in a complete an utter mess. Doing the repairs will involve a couple of reboots of your machine(both automatic and by itself, no need to tamper with it, at all).
Second, you will witness a huge change in performance of it all. Loading the programs/games will take absolutely no time at all.
Third, please, be running Vista(6) or 7(6.1) for T.o.t.E. Especially 7, it really uses the fixes of the patch 3.1 to its fullest.
Good Luck at optimizing the performance of your machines, everyone

Random Map teams problem!
can someone please help me. I am trying to create random map for 5 players (3vs2) and when I go to map editor to setup teams (adventure map options) nothing happens. It won't save my changes after I make them. I have 2 brothers and we desperately want to play versus 2 computers Is there a solution for this problem, how to create teams?

People not using Vista SP2 yet?
Not doing your updates will bring your machine to a complete standstill.
Using Windows 7 Home Premium Edition x64 is quite recommended, these days, anyway. It's SP1 is set to be released some time this Fall(2010). SP1 for Win. 7 is only useful for new machine buyers. If you keep your updates and upgrades in order(installed right away when received/available). I have been on Win. 7 since early Spring of 2009.
Now, Win.8 is in the beta works for mobile systems(not the Laptops and minitops). So, expect Win. 8 to be offered in x64 format only and, later on, a preview of x128. x128bit could, very well be in the next 5 years' picture(2015).
Besides all of that tech. fuss, Direct X SDK(June 2010) just got released for download + install. 2 whole months late, btw. Remember to uninstall the previous version of it(February 2010)before, install the newest one. The next runtime version will only, replace the current one of this very package of June 2010.
Really do hope the devs. of MMH6 will thoroughly include DX3d10.x into their hard coded programming, this time around. My machine keeps telling me that I am fully into DX11 mode of graphics/video rendering of all possible images.
Good Luck to us all

I recently found a solution for the following problem:
The problem seems to occur only on vista/win7 x64 on computers with 4GB RAM or more. In my case the problem disappeared after allocating only 3GB memory to the OS. This can be done by using msconfig. click start -> run -> msconfig -> tab: boot -> advanced options -> tick: maximum memory 3072 -> (if your videocard has 1GB or more you probably have to reduce it more). Restart your PC. After this I could run the game on very high texture settings without problems.

Try opening the map with 7zip or winrar and edit the maptag.xdb like this (provided the map has 5 random players castles):
<teams>

3

2

</teams>

Hi,
U sure it works with all other programs/games??
Since I have Win 7 x32
And I have 896MB videocard so If I change it to 3072 I won't have problems no more and my windows 7 will still work without problems?
Quite odd that if u have 4gb of ram he will do this xD
Since u have plenty of ram memory for it though

Are you sure you have win7 32 bit? A 32 bit operating system is unable to use more than 4Gb RAM (videocard included!). So in that case your computer will currently use 896 MB videomemory and ~3200MB system memory. Nonetheless I think reducing the system memory to 3072 or 2048 might still solve the issue because in that case the total amount is lower then 4GB. As long as you keep using a 32 bit OS you won't notice any performance differences in HOMM5 or other games.

I still find the utility program the best method - going down the route of allocating less ram to the OS does not fix the memory leak, or if it does its temporary.
To eleaborate on the above - you can use MSconfig to create a new Hardware profile so you can boot into 1 configuration or another - I call this a workaround more than a fix, the Utility when set correctly negates the need to switch hardware profiles and just needs to be set once
Good going though to the poster, as its a method that does give oppertunities - well done

Yah thnx,, but think I don't exactly know how to use the Utility or I do somethin wrong hahah.. Well anyway it is a big pro not switching through hardware configs..
And yeh I am sure I have a 32bits version of windows 7..
Says my ram memory is 4 GB.. and that 3 GB is useable so that's good since it always was that way

It is true it is more of a workaround, but I don't like the utility because it is technically just a .cfg file editor and the .cfg files are often rewritten by the game without the user noticing. Secondly several users have claimed the method didn't work even when they set the .cfg files to read-only state. With my workaround I can tweak the ingame settings to whatever I want and have absolute maximum graphics quality without issues.

Keep going buddy you will get there
Both methods work - just perservere
Workarounds are good but HOMM5 really needs development time that they wont do now worse luck
The cfg editor s just an editor but to recap if you dont make a change to the graphics in the game it wont overwrite the file - it keeps the settings and scales graphics based on the initial setting
ie - it cant change the resolution of the game mid way but can scale based on the fixed resolution
The hardware config method is an inspired choice - seen it many times before generally for 64bit OS systems that utilise above 4gig of ram (which 32 bit dont use or can allocate) so the solution is very inspired
Again well done :-)

But what about game settings? (AI walkspeed/Camera/Cursor/Quickcombat)
Those settings also seem to be integrated in the user.cfg and I believe a lot of people have a habit of messing with them regularly (at least I have). I just realize this might be the cause some people cannot make the solution work.

I can only say its never happened to me or my neighbour or work friends
We tend to set the game settings (writing the cfg file) leave the game then open the utility and change graphics only and then re-open the game - all I can say really :-(

Hello
I'm new to this forum and I apologize for my English.
I haven't played ToE for about 6 months and yesterday I wanted to play again and I downloaded some new maps, but when I try to load one of these new maps, ToE crashes to the desktop. About 90% of the new maps crashed. So I downloaded patch 3.1 but it didn't help
My old maps (which are also user-made and downloaded from same webpages as the new ones) are still working fine.
Also something is wrong with the map editor. I have always used it to change multiplayer maps properties, so me and my husband could be in one team. Now when I open a map in map editor and close it (even when I don't save anything, but just open a map in editor and then close it), the map becomes corrupted and size of the map is now 1kb.
What could be wrong? Some windows updates orsmth?

Thanks for the workaround Magnomagus, but I'm not sure I feel comfortable reducing the amount of memory my OS can use just to be able to play heroes V without this graphic bug popping up all the time(mainly when playing necro).
Isn't there a way to set it so that the game can only make use of 3gb or less instead of altering this for the entire OS?.

Uhm hello, first time poster. Uh, my problem is that wheneever I try to start up HoMM 5 Tribes of the East it crashes at the title screen. All I get is the Title of the game and a black screen.
Afterward, it crashes.
Anyone else have this problem?
