No, sometimes they fear your army and escape (you can still fight them though).
You can get them to join you, but it usually cost's, if the creatures are same faction as you there is a higher change that they won't ask for money/resources.
You can also improve the changes of neutrals joining by diplomacy perk under leadership skill.

This "join" thing is more complicated than you think, and it's explained in detail in the Fan Manual at page 323

How do I get quadruple ballista? The skillwheel only shows that it goes up to triple. :s

You need the Ring of Machine Affinity which gives your Ballista an extra shot

Note that Username is the name of your profile you created in game. You shouldn't create a folder named Username

1) Never tried, but I think it's explained in the "HOMM5_Users_Campaign_Editor.pdf" file located in the "Editor Documentation" (which is where you installed TotE)

4) Well you can make a player not lose the game in 7 days without a town. Simply set the following property of the 'player specific' objectives to false: DieInWeekWithoutTowns
