imho=i my humbly opinoin  (or something like that)

I agree with you for the biggest part. But pong didn't look special, and still a lot of people liked it, but that was because people had never seen such thing before and pong was an evolution. Awful artwork in games these days aren't an evolution, 'cause we've already seen better.

"I agree, but perhaps we could retain the power of the "new" breed of vampires and still give them the looks of the "old" ones. I'm still against suit & shoes in the mud of the war (a clever vampire would never dress like that for a battle, he!) "

Well the looks of the old vampire would be the same as zombies. I think we all agree that this would be pretty boring.

And yes wearing suits and shoes on a battle field is silly but so is wearing a nice fancy roby when your a wizard. But it's all part of fantasy. Maybe when the vampire turns into a bat, any mud attached to his clothes falls off

I've heard things about "original vampires." Ohhhhhhhh, some of the gruesome facts I could tell about old vampire hunts(I'd probably get kicked off the HC, though - well, then agian, maybe not, because it wouldn't be swearing or anything, jsut gory)....maybe someone should get a horror thread going.

I like the Bram Stoker vampires - of course, a suit is a bit strange - perhaps like the H3 vamp lords, with the cloaks? A bit like a wizard, wizards go into battle in robes, etc. - get my drift?

Pong in my opinnion has nothing to do with hmm, I think I explained why heroes is unique in it's way.
If you'll focus only on the strategy and the action and you eill compute attack against defence and experience for sec. skills, and resources for buildings you will miss ALL the fun. I've seen strategy games before heroes, and some where better even by being closer to reality. Heroes excels at chapter IMAGE. When you handle a creature into battle you can't handle numbers, for God's sake!! Are you trying to say that you'd be happy even if they'd replace them with some symbols? Instead of a vampire we'll have a big V on the battle screen, so you'll know it's a vampire, and you'll compute......get serious! A strong creature is not defined only in numbers and stats, but in IMAGE too!!!!!

Vampires must be changed.

Of course I agree that their looks should change and I was only using pong as an example of a game tons of people played.  I simply put that reply because after 3 pages of arguing back and forth about the same things, I had to say somthing.  We all know that it's too late for any major changes to be made to the game.  I'm not saying that this is a bad discussion, I'm just saying that maybe we could move away from just talking about the vamps.  They're going to be in suits and there is nothing we to can do to make it any different.  Just to add my thought though, I believe 3do put the vamps in suits because that's how they have often been depicted.  Monks wear their robes on the battlefield because that's just what they aways wear or are depicted.  Another thing, many have said it's not right they wear suits because it's ahead of the times but HOMM4 is a whole new game and possibly set a couple years later.  If not then maybe it's just 3DO's way of saying their moving forward.  But these are just my thoughts.

Slightly off topic but there is a whole very popular line of sharewear games known as roguelike games where the vampire is in fact depicted by a V. Many love these games because they focus on gameplay instead of graphics, and you can use your imagination to fill in the details.

With that being said, I doubt anyone would be very happy if that philosophy was brought to H4 . By the way if you want to get an idea of what a shrunk down vampire looks like, check out the necropolis on celestrial heavens. Though I suspect the real vampire will be a little smaller still.

I don't agree that there's nothing to be done. The game's not out yet and I'm not talking about major changes. It's got nothing to do with the engine of the game or anything in it's core.A picture of a monster can be changed in one day... only if they know that we want it...

Sorry to burst your bubble Vlad but it's coming out in February.  And about the last thing you said, It takes a lot longer than a day.  I'm in a graphics communications class so I know this.  You don't want them wearing suits but you know they still have to look new, they can't just use the same one from homm3.  To do this they would have to first deleate the vamps from the program, next they would have to come up with what they should now look like, after that comes the sketches and coloring, next they see if it will look good when on the pc, after this they have to draw it on the computer, but that's not all you have to remember that all the creatures move so now they have to draw the animations for the map, battlemode, and those pictures that you see when you recruit them.  Let me remind you that's alot of work and takes some time, but guess what, there's still more.  Now they have to put the pictures in order of how they will show up in the game, now comes the last part, Now they have to enter all of these into the game program.  Now think if they had to do this with all of the creatures you didn't like.  So in reality, there really isn't anything that can be done about that.

Yours truly, MightyMage

maybe, maybe not...

...as far as I can tell, all the creatures (and objects) are renderings of 3D models... changing the animations is a piece of cake if you create the new model... I don't think they draw them frame by frame... yes, it take longer than  day, but not too long...

Yes.. it would be longer than Homm3, but not too long. Yes, they probably can make a 3d model very easily. They probably do have the animations saved as well... so if they build a new model they can simply use the animations saved already. And as for building the new piccie inside the castle (when not in battle) it should be very easy... it's just a matter of manipulating the camera. The longest part would probably just coming up with the RIGHT look for the creature, not the animating and stuff.

I think they postponed the release date in order to make some changes after they've collected the impresions from guys like us talking about it. That would mean they have about 2 more months to change some images and perhaps small detailes picked up from heroes communities. So I still have high hopes about my vampire.
Just let me dream...

hmmm....

from what i'd heard, the reason they postponed it is because they simply hadn't played it enough yet!
they need to weed out any bugs they found from playtesting it.

I find the Necropolis town in Heroes 3 the town with the bleaskest, most colourless motives. Almost every hero and creature is unpresentable, and nothing to lie you eyes on. The motive is dark gloomy and utterly boring.

Animations are overall poor, creatures looks much worse than their Heroes 2 counterpart and by a lot too. No style at all. Just grey and dark... It's depressing to play.

In Heroes 2 I can find myself playing the Necropolis town and enjoy the animations of all the creatures in it. In heroes 3 I play the town sometimes but I don't like it at all.

In heroes 4, the Necropolis will contain only about 50% undead. The dull grey motive from Heroes 3 doesn't fit any more (just look at Ghosts, Devils and Venom Spawn) and it's time for Vampires to get up to style again.

OH YES!!!!! VAMPIRES!!!!!!

Hmmm...no way!
If you didn't enjoy the Necropolis in heroes3 that's only because you're not born to be a necro... if you expect the necro town to be just as colorfull as castle or other human town, then the idea hasn't got to you! Diversity in the game means also that some towns will be colored and others bleak!Yes, some creatures were better in heroes2, like the zombie or bonedragon. But others are great in hmm3: the vampires are what they should be and the skeletons are great.Liches also kick **s.The town itself and it's troops were dark and dark they should stay!!!

i like every single H2 necro creature better than in H3...

skeletons: in h2, they walked quickly and had a scimitar, which was cool looking, they also were white, and not gray.
in h3, they walked in place almost (which looked really bad) and had a straight sword which looked so blunt that it wouldnt hurt anything.

zombies: in h2, they had flies buzzing around their head, and they sounded like zombies as well.

mummies: mummies in h2 made a cool walking noise, looked cool.  mummies in h3 ab, look weird, walk weird, attack with staff instead of cool zapping thing that h2 mummies did.

vampires: said "blah" in h2... need i say more?

liches: in h2, attacked with bare hands, and walked cool... their attire was soo cool too.
in h3, they are cool, but not as cool as h2

Bone Dragons: the same in both

Skeletons: what's so cool in being white and brandishing a scimitar instead of a straight sword?(and in h3 they look more like a real skeleton than "something" I ca draw myself)

Zombies: here we agree...you're absolutely right.

Mummies: in h2 they walk "too loud" and have a strange face. The h3 type is slim and bears the royal marks, their only fault is in their ffwd walk.Nothing wrong in the help of a staff.

Vampires: "nosferatu-faces" in h3 makes all the money and their sounds are great.H2 are also great; that's a tough choice.

Liches: since they're the equivalents of magi it's normal to fire their sceptres rather balls of "stuff" from their bare hands. Also nice outfit in h3, more necro-style than h2.

Dread Knights: really unique.I just love them; even only for their curved sword...really great.Sorry we lost them in h4...

Bone Dragon: cooler in h2, really scary, indeed.

hmmm...

i didnt rank them by how real they are, i ranked them by how cool they are.  liches in h2, although obviously not as real as in h3, look cooler IMO.

"Mummies: in h2 they walk "too loud" and have a strange face. The h3 type is slim and bears the royal marks, their only fault is in their ffwd walk.Nothing wrong in the help of a staff. "

walk too loud?!?! wtf... there noises were cool.. when they got hurt they said "ahh!" and when they attacked, they made a cool sound too... also, they are not as realistic but better...

skeletons also walk better and look cooler in h2.

in short, h3 had more realism, but h2 was cooler.
