@Azagal: No Kastore wasn't a cyborg (seriously, that sort of stuff is very rarely seen in the old universe), he was just an evil Elven sorcerer with kickass armour, and I didn't really expect you to know who he was, just said it to annoy you.  Arantir and himself are very similar in personality (except Arantir's never travelled on a starship, nor tried to dominate the world using zombies with chainsaws for hands)

Oh, and of course Biara will die.  What sort of a stupid ending would it be if she didn't? Obviously Arantir, Duncan and the Sovereign will certainly survive though, or Dark Messiah would be contradicted.

What a great back story.

From playing heroes 1,2 and mm 4 I know Kastore as a generic warlock hero who can teach a powerful spell in mm 4.

Which game features him more prominently?

I really could make a better backstory.  In fact, I have.  Here we go:

Kastore first appeared in Might and Magic III.  As an elf with blue-tinted skin (due to limited colouring capabilities at the time) he was the default Sorcerer character, and aided his five comrades in a journey across the planet of Terra, where they eventually became embroiled in a fateful confrontation between the crazed planetary Guardian, Sheltem, and his archenemy, the benevolent Corak.  Upon the game's end, Kastore and his five comrades happened upon a forgotten starship deep within Terra's confines, and, piloting the ship, decided to follow Corak and Sheltem in their battle as they headed toward the planet of Xeen.

Though expected to burn up in Xeen's atmosphere, Kastore and his allies instead mistakenly (and luckily) diverted their course to a distant planet, namely Enroth.  Crash-landing in the oceans near the continent of Antagarich in the Lincoln (their spaceship), the party of eight (two new members seemingly joined somehow) segregated into two groups - an evil (consisting of Kastore and his three underlings, Dark Shade, Tolberti and Maximus) and a good (consisting of Resurrectra, Robert the Wise, Crag Hack and Sir Caneghem).  In Might and Magic VII, he underwent a fairly major design revamp, becoming more 'elvish' in appearance and now wearing the aforementioned suit of kickass armour.

Kastore's group headed to Deyja, the necromantic kingdom which had recently been devastated by the forces of Erathia in recent times.  Assisting the new king, Archibald Ironfist, in his bids to restore the broken land of the undead.  Kastore usurped the throne from Archibald in the end, who departed for a secluded location known as Clanker's Lab.  In the meantime, Kastore and his allies concentrated on their next goal: the revival of technologies created by the long-forgotten Ancients, who first populated the world.

Kastore sent a party of adventurers to retrieve a forgotten artifact known as the Osciliation Overthruster from the Lincoln in the seas of Antagarich.  Using this arcane component, Kastore and his allies travelled to the site of the long-since abandoned Heavenly Forge, the last remaining prominent machination formed from Ancient technology.  In the evil ending of Might and Magic VII, plunging the Overthruster into the Forge's engine, Kastore awoke its powers.  Instantly, it began producing blaster guns.  Grasping one, Kastore shot a nearby Goblin and laughed a maniacal laugh.  With these arcane technologies within his reach, he would create new Forges and soon dominate the world.

Unfortunately he didn't, since 3DO cancelled the Forge and replaced it with the Conflux in AB.  Kastore was never seen or heard of again.  D'oh.

Kastore does appear in Might and Magic IV and in Heroes I and II, though not canonically in storyline terms, just as a gameplay reference.

That wouldn't matter, she always escapes when she got defeated. Besides, Shackles of the last man are awesome in campaign. Your main hero can't flee or surrender anyway, so they make things fair again

Compare the stats only. I think both executioners and Cheftains are equally strong either by stats or specials.

You're not wrong  Plain and obvious as you had thought.

2. I dont see the use of Chieftains.. The slayers and executioners both get a double attack and the Chieftains don't.

It all depends on how you'd plan to use them. Chieftains are more defense-oriented creatures than their counterpart Executioners which are more offensive (higher Att, lower Def). It's also reflected on the abilities where Execs tend to directly harm the enemies, whereas Chiefs are more support-oriented towards their fellow soldiers. But given 20% diff in HP, you really can't say they're useless

Besides if you place them next to cyclopses you then get faster shooting and even their diving guidance-like special deals only 1 damage per chieftain in the stack. At first I was afraid that to give you the bonus you get a free hit which would hurt a lot.

1. This is probs obvious but do the creatures in your army gain better stats the better level the hero leading them is? And do your items that you carry effect both the hero AND your creaturs? ie +2 attack sword? Im pretty sure they do...

Short: yes.
Long: Artifacts that add to Attack and Defense do so for the Hero that uses them. Suppose you have a Hero with a base attack of +8, and he equips that +2 Attack sword, then his skill effectively becomes +10.

The Heroes' attack score is added to the base Attack score of creatures. The same counts for the Defense score. Note that it is the *effective* Hero skill that is added (so Artifact augmentations are taken along in it) and not the base skill. Suppose we have a Hero with a base +8 Attack and +8 Defense, who equips a +2 Attack sword and a +4 Defense shield, then his effective Attack becomes +10 and his effective Defense becomes +12. Now suppose this Hero has some Archers in his army. Archers normally have an Attack score of +4 and a Defense score of +3. But because the Hero leads them, their effective Attack becomes +4 +10 = +14, and their effective Defense becomes +3 +12 = +15.

Just thought id say that according to the skills on some part of this website it says you need 60 cheiftans for a 0.60 ATB boost which is very powerful.
Remember you wont actually get a second attack through cleave if the executioners die from retaliation first. Cheiftans live longer and can do a lot more while waiting too

Tier 3s are pretty strong with the armored upgrade actually. if you ahve soldiers luck then you may want to take the warmonger, but otherwise the defense and health combined with creature growth can make up for it

@Maurice: Nice elaboration as usual

Yes, I also think cleave is more like a bonus than advantage. If it has to trigger on casualties, troops will soon get thinner and could make life difficult later on.

Quote:
Anyone else think the tier 3 units are a bit...worthless (I think its tier 3, the warriors etc)?

Use them as first attackers so higher-tier creatures can avoid retaliation and can be reserved for final battles. They're expendable  One thing I don't like about them is the diff in HP between the upgrades, almost 100%  Doesn't make any sense.

Quote:
Also I think the wyverns are too weak. I had like 15 venom wyverns and they do hardly any damage and die in basically 1 hit from a couple of arch angels/sephs..

Kindly provide more details as to how many exactly is "a couple" and whom you play against, what are the stats etc?

One upgrade has assualt though, Thats a chacne for 2 times the damage. I think its not small with soldiers luck either.
Taunt is very situational. You have to keep your units moving so theyre rarely bunched up if even near each other. And the retaliation thing is only good if anyone actually attacks them. Despite that though +8 HP is huge.
Yeah wyverns are weak with the wyvern guy (its happening already!)
With him theyre quite good on a high level though . Without theyre basically the biggest Hit and die stronghold has. Theyre the only one that can make the battle drastically different even with one quick strike.
