Writing this one from my friend's place - Still offline for a couple days more
refering to waht you guys said..

1.All Havens alternatives are better.
Its true the new griffins are too powerful for level 4! They have like 5 abilities and good stats! they must kick 1-2 of the abilities!
Not necessarily all. I find the Imperial Griff a lot better than the battle one, sure it has a lot of specials but they SUCK and it has only 10 initiative!! Sure it's a nice tank, but does haven need tanks when squires are around? I think not. Haven heroes aren't casters - the creatures have to win, so imperials fit better with their powerful offensive. Battle griffs' dive sucks with their horrible initiative and only 75% damage..

2.Arcane archers shoot only once
They do nice damage but they are easy to kill.
But still harder to kill than master hunters And they shoot once, but their one shot deals usually more danage than two of M.hunters.

3.All inferno alternatives are better.
Not all of them, but most yes, the new imp can steal your mana in every turn... but the Arch Demon sux.
Yea, I find Arch Demon a bit sucky too. Vermins drain only half of the mana familiars use to, so I think they aren't too hot either.

4.Academy alternatives stinks lol
Hmmm they are not so bad, they are cool. Djinn Vizier's is useful troops, Battle Mage and Storm Titan are nice too... well the gremlins stinks...
Vizier is a definite improvement, tougher, magic proof and good special (especially for units like titans). Battle mage has no range penalty so it is a good choice in late game, where the fireball did lower dam than melee attack anyway. Storm Titan = Titan, there's barely a difference between them. I also find the new rakshasas, golems and gargs very useful = to be honest, Academy got a solid boost.

Yep this sux... they must be grey, dark green and Turkish blue - dark blue like the night.
I like pink necros

neither are present. Heroes like Isabel and Raelag didn't carry over from H5 to HoF, so the same thing probably applies to ToTE, although I haven't gotten far enough to play any of them.
I suspect Zehir will restart pretty much from scratch since he is the main hero in the third campaign.

Drat, so you still need to purchase HoF if you want to play those campaigns.... Clever bastards. Ah well, at least the Fortress faction is also included with TOE, I'm probably gonna buy it.

Quote: So far these AI improvements seem to apply to campaign... I did notice some improvement in the demo.
even when i played at easy, they did not flee from me in battle... and in my opinion, it's a good change =)
But they still attack the war machines even if these can't be destroyed given the tons of HP and otoh there are other creatures that can be attacked with casualties albeit min. This normally happens at the last stage of the battle when AI is about to go down, they choose machines over creatures. Perhaps "not being retaliated" is given higher priority, hoping the player (we) act similarly stupid by not delivering the final blow to finish the battle (e.g. casting more spells), so it can keep attacking the machines w/o getting retaliated, hopefully to destroy any of them after 2-3 strikes. Thinning the enemy seems never on AI's dictionary, its vision is just at the battle, not at the scenario.

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it.

I'm still very dissapointed with the AI. When one of my scouts with 2 goblins, go past an enemy castle - I don't get attacked. The Computer seems to nest in the Castles forever.
Also - Very dissapointing is the fact that the Computer flees at first opportunity unless your armies are almost equal (or his is better). In this way, instead of the Computer trying to at least kill some creatures, you are denied XP from real battles. You only get XP from creeping, adventure objects and sieges now - Boring
If Nival had put as good efforts in improving the AI as the graphics and more units, (And MORE MAPS!) this could have improved the game a lot.

Quote: Now I finally have the game too There are many nice improvements from HoF, like now the enemies act more tacktical on the map. They use scantuary's and have less stupid movements. Many of the new upgrades are really great, but there are many ugly names too. Arcane Archer is extremly powerfull, but their name should rather have been Sharpshooter and the yyyyiiiiihhhhhaaaaa shout when you win a battle is so..... unelvish
Btw, do you think Arantir's special ability is very usefull? To me it was nice in the start, but now I'm on the fith map in his campaign and I have Expert Summoning Magic. My avatar costs 52 mana while Summon Pheonix cost 35 and is more powerfull
Btw 2, on the campaign I have Howl of Terror. It's very easy to get now
yep,but avatar of death have much more specs, and most of them are useful, and when you summon phoenix have negative morale

It should be easy to mod back again, as the Computer didn't flee (unless seariously overwhelmed) in the 2.1 patch - which was much more fun. The AI hasn't improved - it still does the same stupid errors, just flees all the time. Perhaps they have put so little though into the AI beacause it is meant to be more of a multiplayer game, but that is no excuse - even Heroes 2 had a more logical Computer player to relate to

I still feel that the result from a fleeing Hero should be the same as a fleeing neutral stack: the victor gains half of the exp of the creatures that fled. It just sucks absolutely when you've finally built an army capable of defeating that huge enemy army, only to have the enemy Hero take a run after the first few hits have been exchanged.
In the same light, I really liked the Prison idea from HoMM4, where you could lock away enemy Heroes that you defeated in combat.

Yeah I experienced the same with crazy-retreating AI.
And I also noticed that you can't train alt. upgrades into higher tier 'cause the computer simply doesn't let it! I mean you can train 20 inquisitors into cavaliers, but you can't do it with 20 zealots! That was a very annoying bug even though training upg. units doesn't make much sense.(but in certain situations it is needed).

What's wrong with retreating? A human also retreats when he doesn't want to buff the enemy hero. You want the AI to become a punchbag again? I guess it's stupid enough..

The problem is that the AI retreats instantly when it has the chance to do so(even when its army is far greater than yours).Yesterday the AI retreated from a battle when it had 9 red dragons while I didn't even had a single dragon, and the rest of his stacks were at least 10% bigger(and he had a lvl 17 hero while mine was only lvl 14). That was a warlock vs warlock battle by the way.

What!!!No modding for TotE Lame
I don't know where Vokial saw that. Modding still works the way it used to: place your mod as .h5m in the Maps/ folder. Please don't spread nonsense without testing things first.
The new UserMODs/ folder is tricky, I agree, and I'm still investigating this issue.
Quote: The TOE expansion does not include the original campaign, but does it include the HOF campaign?
And if it doesn't future the original campaign, how can you play the TOE campaign if you don't have the original game, since I reckon the heroes you built up in the original campaign are transported into those new campaigns as well, or am I mistaken?
Heroes are not transported from H5 campaigns to HoF, nor from HoF to ToE. They always start fresh. Neither H5 nor HoF campaigns are included in ToE.
Anyone about to blame Ubi for this should keep in mind 2 things:
- it's the only feature not included in ToE. For the price of an expansion, that's a bargain!
- ToE allows to load user-made campaigns. And mods. Make your own conclusion.

Wonder if his special was nerfed, he's a walking imbalance. With battlefrenzy and vitality his shieldguards are too strong even against high tier units.

Well, fair enough, but the game isn't about realism but having fun - right
If you meet other multiplayers out there, you don't flee imideatly even though you see you'll lose in 20 rounds - you take out some creatures of his, even that means he get som more XP from it.

The AI doesn't need to be a punchbag. but what's the point of it retreating? It losses a huge army it has collected for several weeks and although it does'nt making me stronger by giving exp, it doesn't make me weaker either by thinning my army so it's actually handing me a victory.

the problem is, unless the AI cheats on retreating, it loses a pretty big army instead of trying to make a good use of it by fighting your forces. Besides, how boring is it that you seem to be about to get attacked, scrape every last unit you can muster together and confront the enemy... and he flees without exchanging a single blow thanks to starting ATB favoring his champions?
It's not really about "buffing" your hero, it's easy enough to hit the level cap in most missions with creeping and sieges alone. And in the final mission, levels are high enough that the exp gained even from huge battles hardly get you an extra level.
Besides, it's not like the hero couldn't flee shortly before defeat so you don't get his precious artifacts, but the AI doesn't seem to do that very often either.
