You start by saying that love is not quantifiable or defined properly, yet you did so with the second paragraph?
the second phrase was just my view of love, yours might be different.

The direct answer is yes, they become  more attractive. At the same time the younger women don't become less attractive. Another way of putting it is that the mom and daughter are both hawt so there's twice as much eye candy. When I say eye candy, I'm only talking about looks and not all the other qualities that are important.

As you get older, your priorities change when it comes to a relationship. For one thing you see things from a more practical point of view rather than simply the emotion of being madly in love with someone. As the saying goes, love is blind. But as you become older I think that becomes less true and you are able to pull back and really consider if the relationship is realistic.

I haven't been following this conversation and don't know the context of your question (I saw it in JJ's post), but I'm curious why you asked this. Was it just out of curiosity? Or are you concerned about your own future? If it's the second, I'd say don't worry about it, it will take care of itself. I can tell you with complete confidence that you will be quite capable of falling madly in love.

My question was completely unrelated to the current conversation going on among these unstable lovebirds. I was just curious if 50-year-old women are going to look more attractive once I'm 50, since generally, women that are decades older than you aren't that attractive.

Look at this journey through the time of a German actress born 1942. She was 39 when her son was born. The right picture with son sees here at around 40. The picture on the left beneath that is showing her in her mid-40s. Attractive? No question about it. In fact, easily more sttractive then most young chicks whose presence is made of youth, youth, and youth.
So, have no fear there.

Good point...except for the fact that that's not what any of us are talking about. He was talking about love between two people not related, not a mother loving their daughter or something.
Love is love. Break the whole picture up into parts to analyze it.

It's not exclusively love. There's love and respect, love and fascination, love and pride, love and attraction, etc etc. But the love part is the same.

No one is going to understand a phenomenon, artifical or otherwise, by saying "the whole component is special, I'm not going to analyze the individual parts". Is a CPU logic more than a bunch of transistors (and a clock) connected in specific parts?

But this whole thread is about loving somebody not related to you. Like, a girl or a boy. Not about family love. Read the first post of this thread, it's about a girlfriend situation. Just try to stay on topic, for once.

Same love (more or less, depending on how strong it is, I mean ANY emotion varies ANYWHERE). Different mix of emotions. There's no different "types" of love, there's love with other emotions that you perceive as "love", but to call it a single word you have to use the COMMON DENOMINATOR among them.

Otherwise invent a new word that represents only something.

Example: Engine + Wheels = Car (lol )
Engine + Propeller  = Plane

Do you call them both "different types of engine"? (engine=love in the analogy)

Sorry I'm not going to repeat myself, this is exactly what I addressed.

You continue to call cars "engines" and planes "engines" as well.

Let me translate your post above, might give you a bit of perspective that I already answered it:

Look foo, what was the meaning of this thread? Loving someone else (NOT FAMILY RELATED). If it was like that then he would have said so in the opening post or something. So let's try to keep it like that, which was what I wanted you to understand otherwise this thread will eventually turn into the other pieces of **** we have in the OSM.

Actually we've been over this a lot of times -- by "we" I mean everyone on the thread (me & Doom mostly agree on it anyway ). I know you consider love special (you already said before), but there are some of us who go and "reverse engineer" it so to speak.

love IS special, love is one of our strongest emotions, and can't IMO be discussed like this, cause everyone has their interpretation of what love is.

Well William, you know I must support TD here

Love is love. There are no kinds of love, much as there are no kinds of hate or sorrow. If it is different, the feelings to your parents and your partner should have separate names.

@Doom, the love for a partner and the love for a parent is totally different, sure they have the same word, but the feelings are completely different.

Then how can it be discussed and analyzed?

If you say it can't, it's like telling people to stop researching because "the world is too complicated". We haven't got here by accepting that, that's for sure.

Is a plane different from a car? Yes.
Is the engine based on a "totally different" concept? Nope.

DIVIDE the feelings into PARTS. You'll find love is the same, among fascination, attraction, lust, and others, which you label them all as "love". That makes as much sense as labelling a car an "engine".

I just don't understand how you, thedeath, can analyse it when you have no experience with it and don't seem to ever going to have experience with it. I dunno. And I agree with carcity with what he said.

well it CAN be discussed, but look at the thread, over 100 pages and we still hasn't come to a conclusion, doesn't that say something?

and an engine is a PART of a plane or a car.

see the car as love for the parents and the plane as love for the partner, then the engine is just a PART of that, there are many things that tell a plane and a car apart, just like love for a parent or partner.

I don't see love for a spouse as being any different from love for a child, brother, or a parent.  Perhaps someone who DOES see it as fundamentally different can explain why.
