No it was toward nikita. Should work for your overheating too. But the other issue seems like a HD problem.
Depends. Some integrated can be underclocked.
What chipset you have?
EDIT:
Does it freeze even when cold?
It could also be a battery problem. Have you tried with taking off the battery and using it without it?

How can I check what chipset I have?
And I don't know if it freezes when it's cold, because it's never cold.
And it never runs off the battery. It always runs off the outlet.

Model of laptop and google!
Well that explains something. No wonder it overheats if you never turn it off and let it cool down. Most laptops don't deal well with continuos use.
But the battery can complicate things even when it runs from outlet. If it is a battery related taking it off will cure that.

Antiviruses just slow down your comp, a Firewall is way better. Of course, both are better than only one, but what I'm saying is that an Antivirus without some kind of Firewall (NOTE that some antivirus programs come with a firewall included too, don't mistake this!) is pretty non-efficient...
As someone once said: "Having an Antivirus without Firewall is like having a computer without monitor"

Who needs an anti-virus when you have NoScript, a firewall and VirusTotal (online scanning for suspicious files)
My 2 cents on Ash's problem:
1) RAM malfunction (unlikely)
2) Hard Disk malfunction.
I have no idea how it happened but if it is a physical fault you scared the **** out of me now, I'm thinking of making a backup image of my System partition
any good programs? I tried to make one (8 GB is my system partition) and it ended up as 4 GB, and when I tried to "verify" it it gave me errors says it's corrupt, and it took more than an hour to make, do i have to try again
(ps: I used R-Drive Image dunno if the program is good, anyone know of others?)

I turn my computer off at night.
And I googled my laptop (HP pavillion zt1145) and found the manual, but couldn't find the chipset.

Norton ghost is the best but it's not free. Some free ones are hanging around but they tend to suck by principle.
Note mvass that I by no means am a laptop expert. I just have some experience dealing with those devil's creations. IBM thinkpads to be exact. Great otherwise but they have no gaming power at all. I did get UT2004 working on a thinkpad with 800MHz processor and 4 MB graphic card though.
From my experience laptop parts go down in this order:
battery
hard drive(s)
screen
the rest very rarely if not overheated greatly then it's usually the motherboard
I'll try to find it. Maybe I have better luck than you Mvass.

Quote: I'm also having trouble with my computer. This old laptop (it's 5 years old, I think), works fine most of the time, except it overheats very easily, and just freezes once in a while. Rarely, it just shuts off.
Another problem with it is I have Switch It! set to where I can switch between typing in Latin and Cyrillic letters, but occasionally it switches by itself, and just for one letter. Then it immediately switches back.
Ok then.....
*General Applications you got?
*Specs?(atleast what you can list)
*How is it place?(ex: Straight on the table, someting on the back to keep it from the underlay and avoid overheating, etc?)

Okay.
Windows XP SP2
1.2 Ghz Pentium III
384 Mb RAM
Integrated Graphics
Integrated Sound
20 GB hard drive
Linksys Wireless-B Notebook Adapter
Placed on the desk, monitor end stands on a horizontally-lying book (it freezes up regardless of whether it's on the book or not).
Interestingly, it only freezes up when I'm on the Internet.

Hey Joonas!
Norton Ghost didn't back it up -- I tried and it gave me an error at the verification, said "CRC corrupt" or something (yeah I know what CRC is but why the hell is it corrupt if I just made it?)
What about the built-in Windows Recovery? Can that make an image file that can be transferred to another HD (i.e EXACT copy of the hard drive partition)?
I just want to make a damn image file, like people do with DVDs and CDs, on my whole hard drive (well C:\ partition anyway, which is small) so when I'll need to transfer it all, I'll copy everything, including boot sector, and all the information not stored in "files". Why doesn't it work

Quote: You could try putting the laptop on something cold or something which allows air to get around it freely.
Also enable the energy saving options.
Then you could try underclocking your graphics card.
I have a bought a fan that maybe makes it 1 degree lowerAnd have tried to take the cap off so air can get in.
My windows does it automatically(but when i had Vista,it didnt warn me just turned the work of video card down).Underclocking isnt going to help, its 256mb with turbo and works as about 10mb,my mario game lags sometimes. The best things to hope for is that the video card isnt harmed and can be cooled by liquid coolong.Otherwise,it is intergrated and this will be forever.

Well it seems to work now, the scans are finished. No virus detected...
The problem is that I didn't get rid of the problem, I just fixed its effects. The virus could still be there, or if it's no virus the Hard Drive may malfunction any possible moment again...
It's like getting robbed and then getting the money back, but not catching the thief as well.

@Death:
I have no idea why it would be corrupted? So you have a full version? (as in not pirated)
Windows recovery can't do images.
Ghost is able to do image files.
@Nikita:
It isn't really a 256MB card. It has some memory of it's own but the turbo just mean it can use ram as a part of it's memory. So it's really closer to 10 MB than 256MB.
@Ash:
If it's hard drive you'll know soon enough. It'll keep repeating and die for good after a long anough time.
