Quote: I have no idea why it would be corrupted? So you have a full version? (as in not pirated)
I didn't use any crack (just a serial), so it should work, since I didn't modify anything so it's original.
The thing is that it gave me an error before with R-Drive Image too @ the verification stage.
thanks anyway I'll keep trying foolin' around. I'll let you know if I'll make it.

Well, that sucks. It's not even old (I think only a year old)
Is there a possibility that this was an isolated case? Or should I get a new Hard Drive soon enough?

We don't know if it was hard drive...yet.
If it starts making weird sounds or starts to repeat it again it most likely is a hard drive but before getting a new you should try reinstalling windows just in case it was a virus that just got through the scanners.

Nope, Vista is worse. It eats more than XP, XP eats more than win2000, etc.
Its simply a matter of eating compared to the food source, heard about people with lagging XP on 254mb ram computers and i guess then the flash pushes it over the edge. Maybe a small error somewhere in the hardware to, but the OS eating is a bigger blame i guess.

Well at least you think vista is worse, I agree. Although if you go by your logic, then Windows 98 would eat more than windows 95, which, in my opinion, is not true. Windows XP was superior to windows 95 in every single way. The only thing it might eat more of is the Hard Drive space, but what can you expect really? With the technology improving back then, the Hard Drives would have enough hard drive space to be able to put on windows 98, just like they did back when windows 95 was made, and just like they do nowadays with all these newer Operating systems.
Now as to what else you're saying, you seem to think that Flash is a big deal, right? If a person would take off flash then it might not really improve anything except the Hard Drive space and might make it slightly more faster (and by slightly, I mean SLIGHTLY) because it isn't being used in the Memory, but it won't really fix that much. If a computer with 256 MB memory and XP is lagging, then I would say that it is lagging because the hard drive might be old or the person might have a not so good CPU. I've run XP on 256 MB memory and it worked just fine because my CPU was quite good (higher than the requirements anyway). If it does lag then it might also be the amount of programs the person has installed on the machine and how many things load at startup. This would happen on any OS, regardless of whether it is Vista, XP, Windows 2000 etc.

I have first hadn experience on that Will.
XP works wonderfully on a computer with 800MHz processor and 192MBs of ram as long as you don't browse HC, EA sites or any site that has major java or flash animations.
So it really is flash that kills the machine.
Thank god for noscript.

That's when browsing the internet, and most people would turn off flash anyway because of the bandwidth it usually takes up (and because there are so many ad's that are in flash and it slows down web site loading). What if you don't have the Internet? Would you still say it would kill the machine? You also have to take into account the web browser that you use and the version of the flash plugin. If both the browser and version of the flash plugin are kinda old then they are gonna be a bit slow (but they won't kill the machine at all).
I also wouldn't say that HC has major flash plugins compared to other sites that I have seen. I don't understand how it would, as you say, kill your machine but not kill my old one that I used to use.

Of course I turn all those things off with it.
Plus I get rid of almost all programs that start when the PC does.
But flash itself doesn't kill the machine if it does nothing, D'uh!
HC has huge usage of PC power if you let those ads kick in. That machine can only open one HC page in tabs if ads not disabled. If you open two the whole machine starts lagging like hell.
Those that get a lagging XP with 256 MBs of ram just probably haven't configured it right or it's old install.

My XP takes about 90MB when loaded
(I disabled lots of useless services etc...)
although it still sucks to me that I can't make an image and it gives me crappy error, I'll try to scan all the 'bad sectors', do you think that could be the problem?

Yeah I tried googling but the thing is that it also gives me error with R-Drive Image (another HD-image software)
and it gave me twice at the same thing (I tried twice).
Yes both softs could be bad but the chances are pretty low.
I dunno if I should try Acronis (I've been recommended to it) and if it gives me error as well then most definitely it's something else.
Also I've been recommended this: Clonezilla. It seems good and yes the guy who recommended it is quite good @ Windows stuff & programming (at one of the forums I visit about programming)
I should give it a try. Hope it'll work

Ah, I thought you meant dvds with that r-drive image.
If it's two programs it's something else for sure. Bad sectors, packed drive? maybe some encryption perhaps?
I don't know a lot about those.

Packed Drive? You mean you can't make an image of a Hard Drive if it has the Windows compression?
Or maybe you have some bad sectors, Death? How can you check? The Windows Scanning doesn't have a 'report'

The drive is not compressed (all) but I think it does have some compression, I use it here and there (compression on 'useless' stream of 0 data is a lot faster to load since it means less hard disk usage).
No encryption though
I hate bad sectors anyway.

Ok I also got DriveImage XML and Acronis TrueImage seems really cool (not only is it said to be better than Norton Ghost, but it's also a lot faster, well Symantec always have bloated software ).
I didn't try them yet though, but DriveImage XML (is free for home use) doesn't seem to have a 'verification' stage
oh btw, I forgot to tell you guys, when I defrag C (the small system partition which I want to backup) it says that some files can't be degragged no matter how many times I defrag thereafter... is that because they are corrupted/bad sectors? I scanned already for scanned sectors.
