You're probably having a deja vu with "Back for Revenge" which is an original map in H3.
I've redesigned that map many times over and at one point I deleted everything except an island, basically 90% is renewed and the crystal island is left behind. (And that island in the upper left corner is still there, I've changed the objects on it but the terrain is still there)
I almost never start a map from scratch, I just load the most recently map I've made, and I delete most of it, sometimes things are left behind.
The map you see above here have been reshaped 3 times, I have 3 variations of it, each with a different name.
This is the latest map I started to work on two days ago. I'm still trying to balance it, I've played a few games on it, and as I play them I write down what needs to be tweaked, then I tweak the map and replay it again, over and over until the map becomes balanced enough to give challenge but not too much of a challenge and not too less.
It's called 'Wizard's mighty reunion', it's 5 tower AI players vs 1 dungeon human player. The Dungeon have come up from underground and barely have any native terrain as you can see, I made it that way to make it look as if they broke into the land of the towers, make them look like invaders from underground. 
I put gradual tax reduction and +gem production at 6 months interval, at one point the AI players will have a great boost to Titan production, and by that time the game becomes harder after a while.
This map is also a redesign of the map above this one but this one can barely be recognized anymore, almost nothing is original.
Never published any of the maps, I make them for myself (as you can see, they almost always have dungeon human players), there are so few original maps to play.
One thing I'm getting a bit tired of is the water, my next map will probably be lots of land mass with all players on the same land mass. I'm getting a bit tired of travelling with ships to reach the enemy. Could always just throw in a few two way portals too and just keep the water.

Tower's Titan is a megachad, Naga Queens for obvious reasons too, Forge's Dreadnought is also very cool, Crystal Dragons were my first chad dragons when playing HoMM3, and they look cool too. Ice Demons also are neat.

I figured that would have been better then creating a similair thread. Good to see you as well, been a while indeed although i still lurk every now and then and play a little h3 inbetween
