1. Master gremlins (I like to have them on day 1)
2. centaur captains
3. Dragon flies (especially good for scout heroes)
4. Mighty gorgons
Vampire lords, minotaurs, AAs and ancient behemots are also good, but I don't play with them too often.

3 favorite creatures
My favorite creatures all come from my favorite town, the Castle. Anyway, here they are:
Favorite:Marksman(why else would it be my avatar?)
2nd favorite:shaprshooter(great shooter+no Range or Barrier penalty)
3rd favorite:Archangel(good creature+resurrect+cool looking)

Black Dragon is the favorite but i love walking around with Arch DEvils. There is no better creature for when you gotta fight hordes of Diamond Golems

Scorpicore- the ability is nice, though it could proc more often.
Dread knight: mostly for it's cool looks.
Thunderbird: overgrown canary with ability to call lightning. Awesome!
Cerberus. Three headed attack. Cool graphics.

My favourite threesome
As always when related to HoMM3, it is a tough choice for me, but, approximately this is how I'd answer:
1) Angels - not as mighty as archangels, definitely, but there is such an air of sexiness, prominence, and glory in just about everything about them: how they look, how they fly, how they put the hand on their face when the shine appears on them, how they sigh when they're hit... I mean, doesn't it look like a major to the attacking opponent when you only sigh after the injury? It was so much funny to me when I first started playing with them, hahaha...
2) Magic Elementals - well-deserving their place as 6 lvl units. These fellows have a mixture of Hydra/Black Dragon abilities, you can't possibly find a bigger pimp among other 6 lvl creatures... well, regarding the special abilities, anyway...
3) Arch Magi - great rank units with such a memorable design and both ranged and melee skills that I'd think twice before upgrading them to Enchanters if I played as Dracon.
