I thought i'll write some things from a modder viewpoint.I have an idea for the future.I know there are many ideas,which have higher priority but this might have not been mentioned.At the moment the towns are constructed in a way like :
Building A => image A1 is being show on screen
in this way structures.json is constructed
but it would be very helpful if there was an option to put "If function":
Building A => image A1 is being show on screen
If Building B is built => image A2 is shown instead
If Building B,C is built => image A3 is shown instead and so on...
this would be great in individual building's json.This might lead to errors if used in a wrong way ("logical loops"),but If used corectly would be a great help.
The idea comes from the fact that puting alternative image is often faster than changing transparency or z value by hand to adapt to other images.Also just puting teal color in some places for transparency can lead to unnatural shadowas colours,borders around an image.I still need to think of tricks to avoid that even when having all nicely rendered images which is no good ;]
Some time ago when creating Abode I used once auto build mode.The mode that build an extra building once the requirements are met ( building is built) but this is not good enough.Also i noticed there are two "building sounds overlapping" when I used that.Also it doesnt change the image of existin building.This can be used just to cover existing image.Well that's of my thoghts.Great job with VCMI,keep up the good work

To certain degree you can achieve something like that using "upgrades" field - if building have this field set, only last upgrade will be visible.
Nice idea. I'd like to do something with clumsy places like hordes without breaking H3 behavior instead of using current overcomplicated solution.
And you actually gave me idea on how to do that and to complicate things even more. Definitely not for next release but all in all it sounds interesting.

Sounds like bug. Should be reported on bugtracker before it will be lost on forums.

lol, great minds think alike. i was just(aka: not even 20 minutes ago) considering making varying terrain "skins" for all of the castles, so that they would look right on any terrain.

Well, does it work for H3 towns ? Cause as we can see there, terrain only fits on Homm2 ones, like it already worked in 1996 (somehow that graphic feature disappeared in Homm3).
Anyway, good to have news from VCMI, as always (the citadel version of towns look awesome ).

Our project provides possibilities for such changes without actually changing anything. That screenshot is just an example of what can be done with VCMI:
1) Possibility to define for which terrains specific image will be used.
2) Possibility to select which buildings change town appearance on map, be it usual village->fort switch or something else (like making Grail visible on map)
So yes - if somebody will create terrain-specific graphics for H3 town he can create mod for VCMI out of those. But this won't be part of VCMI just like mods for Era come separately from Era itself.

sets 1, 2, and 4 look good, but the bases on set 3 need fixed, because the base of the castle overlaps some of the volcanoes, which is unnatural. my 2 cents. nice work, though.
also, as for the shading on the volcanic castles, it looks good, but i would tone it down a bit, the shading is a little strong(or maybe just too high. if volcanic ash colored a castle, it would be the whole thing, or just right around the base, which would be a much smaller area of effect) as well, the shading shouldn't have a definitive line, i wouldn't think. i would have the shading go up and down at random intervals.
lol, i guess that makes 4 cents.
btw, feel free to tell me to go have sex with myself, should your opinion differ.
