homm3 is a really epic game
homm2 follows
homm4 is a very interesting game with different tactics and srategy
than the other homm games
homm5 is very good with nice graphics(problems excist though)
But i think homm3 complete ad WOG are the best of the best

I usually go for H3, and H2 as 2nd.
I am too drawn towards music (btw the barbarian music from H1 is what GOT ME into gaming!).
Which reminds me (if anyone can help me...).
I have H2 cd BUT... the necromancer castle has a song that is not the one I loved so much - the one with a fluid piano playing (which did not fit the necros but was fascinating song).
I WANT that song (is it in mp3?)... How can I get it/download it???
PLEASE???????????

Heroes 3 Complete is my favorite by far. The game-play is superb, the music epic, and the replay value of it is amazing.

HOMM 3 is probably the most complete and perfect in a sense. But HOMM 2 just has something magical in it despite some of its obvious flaws. I'd go with HOMM 2 here.

If you load it into your CD tray a program like iTunes should recognize the tracks as an audio CD. Then rip the tracks as mp3s yourself.

HOMM II
Wizard, Warlock, and Necropolis castles are the best of all the games.
Exceptable, simplistic graphics.
Fastest moving gameplay.
I think HOMM IV is worst, honestly.
No upgrades = 
Slow gameplay.
Odd faction grouping.

HOMMI's a very nostalgic game.
HOMMII's classic, that should say a lot. 
HOMMIII comes close, I loved the transition from the last installment to HOMMIII.

I only have a least favourite (IV) and that is only by a narrow margin. They are all great.

H3 so so overrated. IDG most of the love. o_O
I LOVE H2 and H5 tho, they are by far my favorites. The comes the incrdibly overrated, but still good H3, closely followed by H4.

My favorite is Heroes 3, 5 and 4 being tied at second place, then H2.
Heroes 5 have the best hero development and the most interesting battles thanks to many cool skills and unit abilities. But what really makes me angry is adventure map. Why, oh Great D. From the Majestic Mountains of Tajikistan, tell me why they had to make it 3d! It is so uncomfortable, i can't get used to it. And I think that H4 map is much prettier (except the ugly lava terrain). Also graphical style don't suit me (WTF did they do to those poor little gargoyles?!).
In Heroes 4 we can find some interesting ideas (Caravans! Fighting heroes! Advanced hero classes! and more), but after few hours of playing you get the feeling that the game is lacking something, that it is probably not finished, or at least not tested enough, like some alternatives being far too obvious, or some advanced class being useless. Other than that i really like music and most of the graphics (did I mention this ugly lava terrain?).
Heroes 2 offers nothing special (beside the music, which is the best in whole series). It is not a bad game, it is just that the others are better
And I have to admit that I've hardly ever playd the first one. Shame on me!

Never tried heroes 1 but heroes 2 and 3 are godlike games, heroes IV is good too, Heroes V well...Dont know what to say, ok i guess. Heroes VI gets a big NO i dont want to get cought dead with that thing.

H3 WoG. It adds incredibelly much possibilities to H3. Before, I liked H4 just as H3, because of A LOT of possibilities in map editor. Just look what Rakne Fne did! However, WoG increased possibilities for H3, so...

I find all of them extremely enjoyable.
If I had to really choose one, it is probably H5 at the moment. Then again, I hope in the future it gets overthrown by another sequel!
