Rex chuckled and did not take the effort to wipe the grin off his face. He stuck his mechanical hand in the air and admired it a bit while he talked.
"This, no. This is the result of an unfortunate flamethrower accident. And unless you can make people explosion-proof, I'm afraid you've read me wrong. Still you make a decent point. The human body ages and deteriorates over time. And at a given point in time, we'll all be handed our behinds to us on a platter by some youngster. Unless we actually take measures."
Rex took puffed some on his pipe and reached for his glass again.
"But that still does not answer my entire question. As you've only talked about my side of the bargain. What would you like to get out of such a deal?"

Rex grinned like a wolf.
"No dice, Doc. I've got a little operation running with Alujev. And I need Kane for something as well. If I'd kill them, I'd be just as bad as they were to you. That you don't like them will remain your own problem for now."
Rex took another sip of his whiskey and puffed on his pipe.
"So, make me another proposal."

The Doctor frowned slightly. "Alright, I need weapons. Many weapons, and not the normal guns you can buy on the street. I need something ... special. I bet you can manage to create something. You've been visiting a doctor, her name has slipped my mind, and I can promise you that whatever you need her services for, I am a much better choice."

Rex laughed, "Hahahaha. So you DO know about my surgery. You're little experience with the refusal of your offers has caused a slip of the tongue it would appear."
Rex took something that looked like a meat-pie from the four-armed guy.
"But weapons I can do. Weapons is the thing you want, you'll want to go to me. So What kind of weapons do you need. Special is a bit of a vague request."

The Doctor smiled. "I don't like secrets very much, not between brilliant minds like ours. I tell you what suits the conversation, nothing gets out of my mouth without me wanting it."
He took sip of his glass. "I would prefer some kind of energy weapon, carrying around ammo is too much cumbersome. I need them to be powerful and fire quickly, it's as simple as that. I don't know much about weapons, you may improve them as you wish."

'And once more you contradict yourself. You don't want there to be secrets, yet you're clearly not giving me the whole story here.' Rex thought.
"Ah, now there is something I can do. Energy weapons aren't that great a speciality of me, yet. Mostly because they are still mostly theoretical. Ooh sure, there are a couple of Jap/Taiwanese rippoffs on the black market, but those are highly flawed. I've experimented with a couple of them and the barrel melts off the gun after 3 consecutive shots. And I'm sure that's what neither of us wants."
Rex took another bite from the pie he got.
"However there are a few things I'll have to raise with you there. First, while you won't be carrying any ammo, you'll probably end up carrying a couple of battery packs. And unless you can make people give out power like a nuclear powerplant, you'll need several of them if you want to fire of more than a dozen shots or so. Power is never a problem with energy weapons, but quickfire I'm not sure if that is possible. Unless we're talking flamethrowers, but I'm rather sure we're not."
Rex puffed on his pipe a bit in thought.
"Still I'm doing research on the subject already and I think I have a few ideas in my head that will likely be workable. Still there is the question of scale. What are we talking about? Pistols? Carbines? Rifles? And how many do you need?"
Rex finished his pie and whashed it down with some whiskey.
"But that would be my end of the deal. Say for the sake of argument that I'm interested in some of your physical enhancement. What could you get me? And what kind of procedures would you follow?"

"I am not a storyteller, whatever you wish to know I can tell. It's nothing special really." the Doctor said, as a sidenote to the remark about keeping secrets. Then he shifted in his chair, making himself more comfortable.
"I need all you can give me, but if this is like a shopping-list then give me forty guns and twenty assault rifles. Use your imagination, really. I just need something a few year ahead of other mercenaries and weapon producers. I am sure you can put together something."
He took another sip from his drink. "And about the physical improvement. Let me put it this way; there's few limitations. I can make you stronger, can prolong life, I can make you faster and give you better reflexes. Tell me what you want and I am most certain I can manage it."

Rex drypuffed on his pipe, noticing that he had smoked all the tobacco in there.
"Could you have your servants get me an ashtray? As for limits, I'm
more interested to hear what you cannot do, rather than what you can.
You've already made clear that your very skilled, which makes the
limits all the more interesting."
Rex sipped some more of his drink.
"Also I've seen you make quite good use of other bodyparts, but how are you on prostheses? And more accurately, prostheses you've had no hand in creating. Because face it, if you've followed me as well as you say you did you'll know I rather have things I can upkeep myself."

The Doctor waved looked at the female slave and she hurried to get an ashtray. Then directed his attention at the other man again.
"Well, I will list what I cannot do and what I will not do for others than myself or my soldiers. I cannot give you telekinetic abilities, or the ability to transform in any way. I cannot make you invisible, not entirely there is. I cannot give you any special mental powers, only tamper with your brain to increase your reflexes and give you certain knowledge. I can only make your skin somewhat more resistant to cold and heat. I cannot give you several well-working limbs. I cannot give you x-ray or telescopic vision. I cannot make you more intelligent." he took a short pause. "In short, I cannot do too much with the brain itself. I usually let people tell me what they want, and then tell them if I can do it or not."
He smirked. "Prostheses. Well, most people want a new bodypart instead, as I can attach new ones from fresh .. subjects. But I suppose I could manage that just fine, believe you me."

"Not invisible? Tell you what, what if I could get you an invisible 'subject'? The subject is permanently invisible, but it does show up on IR and UV. Seems he had an unfortunate accident with some chems it was working with?"
Rex emptied the ash and burnt tobacco in the newly arrived tray. He slotted a small blade out his mechanical hand and scraped the inside of his pipe. Then retracted the blade and stuffed his pipe anew.
"I cannot say I'm overly fond of people tampering with my brain anyway, not more of it at least."
Rex lit the pipe and puffed on it a few times to get it going propperly.
"So what would be the procedure if, say I wanted to replace the bottom two-thirds of my legs?"

"You would bring me whatever you wish to replace them with, or if you want normal legs let me find someone who has a matching pair of legs. Then you get drugged down and I replace what you wish, and you stay in that state until my work is done. When you wake up you will be ready to walk around on your new feet. The procedure would take about a day or so, as I need to let your body adjust to the chance before I wake you." the Doctor sat forward slightly. "Now who would ever wish to be entirely invisible? It would not be reversable at all. But I suppose it's a nice feature for soldiers. If you bring him to me I might be able to figure out what is causing the invisibility."

"Ah, I feared you would say that. Say I just want painkillers. Because you might be good with humans, but I'm not sure of your skills with heavy machinery and robotics. Also, I won't need the recovery time most likely. My hand I already gained controll of halfway through the surgery. So if that is anything to go by, I can probably just walk the surgery off."
Rex took another sip and finished his drink. He held the glass up towards the servant, who got the hint and went to refill it.
"The invisibilty is not my thing either, but I can do little more with the subject than poke him with a sharp stick for my own amusement. But what's more important is what I can trade it for with you."
