Besides, it doesn't change the fact that the only difference between the two is that one is wearing armour, and that isn't really a brilliant reason for a name-change.
This I agree with, but if we are discuss stupid names, the Praetorian and the Imperial Griffin (from what we have so far) deserve to be mentioned too. The first is an upgraded basic infantryman named after elite Roman bodyguard units and the second is a standard Griffin with armor, there is nothing imperial in it (except maybe a large amount of the imperial treasury's content for this fancy armor).

Well mythological accuracy is not as important as long as it fits. Using the name Cerberus is already inaccurate, as pointed out, yet I have no problem with it; it fits.

Changing mythological creatures' distinct characteristics for (apparently) no reason, I find odd at least. Next make the hydra with only one head? The angel without wings? Minotaur with the upper half human and the lower half bull?
Maybe it's a preference thing, but Cerberi is synonim with three-headed-hound for me, anything else would not make sense.

Yeah I find strange that the HEllhounds have just 2 heads and mainyl wonder for the Cerberus. But i found that they said some things about diire wolves and Sabretooth tigers hmmm. Elves are on the way for the 4th nations? Or neutral creatures they will be?

I completely agree with Zenofex ... when something is good enough, why the hell the developers have to "refresh" it JUST FOR THE FREAKIN SAKE OF IT!!! They only ruin it and shove down our throats things we do not like. I doubt that Ubi is even paying attention to what we are writing. They just go on with the stupid lineups they have already made up and nothing will make them change them! That's the sad truth. And btw, I also agree that the "my H6 lineup" topics have pretty much gotten out of control

P.S. - Is there any official info on some new creatures in H6?

Officially announced creatures are:

Crossbowman/Marksman
Sentinel/Praetorian
Griffin/Imperial Griffin

Vampire/Vampire Lord
Lich/Arch Lich

Hellhound/Cerberus
Juggernaut/Juggernaut Ravager

Additionally, the Ghoul, Angel and the Phoenix (neutral) got an official confirmation as well plus we've seen Skeletons and Ghosts in the demo.

So far, so good. But can you tell me which level the Jugg will be - I hope it's not the replacement of the Devil!

Jugg is likely to be Core I'd say, because even core units now look like they can murder things instead of be mildly annoying.
Look at the bloody Skeleton with it's javelins, it's a complete undead bad-ass!

Could also be Elite but it certainly doesn't qualify as a Champion I'd say.

Juggernaut is elite actually, Xhane confirmed that in one of her replies on Facebook.

She also said it's not exactly replacing any creature (and that we'll be surprised regarding Inferno), which to me implies that Inferno lineup is kinda revamped compared to H5 and we're getting new creatures (Devil is the only other one that I can see making a comeback).

Well they already sorta gave away they wanted to do something different with Inferno, the whole "thousand faces of chaos" thing was their stated angle, so yeah I think we will get some surprises there.
If it's anything like Inferno from HIII or HV in terms of style and gameplay, I'll prolly love them to bits anyway.

I think I'll miss succubi though, if they go away, I always love the whole seductive, shapechanging demon trope, because they always add an element of "cloak and dagger".
Then again, HV had several succubi heroes (even though their models did not reflect this) they might still be in the game as a hero.

Hmmm... as for other demon choices that might wiggle in...
Eurynomous for a bit of obscure.
A Chimera could easily be made into a demonic creature.
Maybe some references to "pegan" deities or biblical demons.
Maybe some oriental demons, Oni for example.
Mephits?
A reference to Keres maybe.

I'll probably think of some better demons they could slide in, prolly best to go through the list of demon archetypes and see what might fit.

I think that an Inferno won't be an Inferno without Imps, Cerberi and Devils. The Succubi were also a nice extra demonic touch to that faction (an were uniquely good shooters at that) so I'd like to see 'em back. I would also love to see the INCUBUS finally make its debut in the demonic faction

I think the Imps are out alongside the confirmed axed creatures (Gremlins, Leprechauns etc), they are definitely not serious enough for the new Inferno. And remember they'd have to be on the same "level" as Hellhounds now.

Not entirely convinced about Succubi, they mattered in the H5 storyline due to the heroes and all, but it was still the only Nival creation for Inferno so I can see them wanting to change it. Hope they can come up with a decent shooter unit.

Not to spoil your fun or anything, but isn't an Incubus just a succubus but male?
(That in fact actually isn't a question but historically speaking a fact.)

However, I think you're probably purposefully interpreting them being widely different, and now I am curious.
Maybe you're thinking more along the lines of an ethereal dream stalking, slimmer, leaner, demon.

So it's not criticism, it's a query, I am honestly curious.
If you were part of the design team and in charge of creating this particular unit, how would you translate it into HoMM?

As for Imps, I think they would be best suited as light weight caster units (or ranged using balls of magical fire, like gogs from HoMMIII), possibly flying and "scary" looking despite their small size.

Wow. Lots of passion here about creatures and of course the normal debate of old and new. I share the views of many here on both sides of the debate.

I cannot imagine that there would not be a Rep from the Developers dropping in from time to time at HC. It makes too much sense for them to get free feedback amd ideas etc. And even with those 'in-house-reps we have here at HC that are working at that very purpose. If Black Hole is a progressive company; they are not going to overlook comments and opinions from the community they hope to serve. Just my opinion and not worth more than black and white type.

I was one of those that very foolishly started another list of creatures. I got very little right since I was going off my HoMM3 stucture mentality. But it was worth it for two reasons, one, and the most important...mixing it up with others here. But the other thing I discovered first hand was in the world of HoMM there are a lot of creatures! I had 9 factions at tier 8 basically and there were still lots of creatures for neutral status. So, no wonder we have so much disagreement as to what should be in H6. Everybody has their favorites and they sure don't always match. i.e. Mine are a mixture of about 4-5 different posters.

Note: I found that nearly all creatures of myth have been used before.

Anyway, nuff blabbering. Developers...If you are indeed looking on; How about in the future, giving "Options" to players to pick line-ups and factions? And have a lot of them. Clearly that is not possible at release with story-lines etc. but it could be a big-deal-expansion later on. Something for map-making etc.

Maybe that is the 'way-ahead' for good all-around player satisfaction. Just my cent-anda-half.

Make a great day.

Isn't that kind of what they had in H4?  Not saying it's a bad idea, but I'm pretty sure they tried the "giving you options" angle already.

Then again, H4 was a classic example of "poor implementation of good ideas"...

I think that the Incubus might suit well in Inferno as a quick high-level hit-and-run melee unit (probably having Teleportation) - something like an agile Inferno unit that the players use a lot (inferno never had swift strikers for melee - only the bulky demons). I'd make the Incubi to be swift, sly, vile, cunning "staker" units rather than casters. However, that leaves the Inferno with no caster unit, which probably means that the Pit Lords must be back.

P.S. - Your idea of SHOOTER Imps (if the devs indeed ax the Succubi) is incredibly great! What about taller, slightly stronger imps that shoot balls of fire?

That's what I thought, you weren't thinking of the male seducing demon but the dream stalking, lean, assassiny type.
Alternatively, the Succubus could cover the same role.
However, I think you might actually be on to something here, looking at the Inferno Playstyle as described in the Inferno PDF they released, they do mention a lot of manipulating space and time around them through the power of chaos, in fact, I believe they mention teleporting itself explicitly.
So this might not just be a "what if they did" but "they might actually do".
They also said the Inferno line-up would surprise us, so seeing a new face which deviates from the established play-style is a high probability.

As for the Imps, I'd keep em small, maybe even smaller then the HV but have them hover or fly.
You don't need to be big or strong to use magic or shoot flames of magical death, that's what makes the Imp ideal for the role.
It makes the Imp a force to be reckoned with, whilst keeping them true to their roots of, and I quote:
"Tiny malicious tricksters."

I'll be back once I check the PDF again and see if I'm not having my memory fail me.

Edit:
From the PDF
"Strengths: Best direct damage, GOOD MOBILITY , melee units both resilient and lethal, can control Chaos (Fate / Luck, Space and Time) to their advantage."
"Able to alter the space-time continuum, they can teleport on the field of battle."
"Chaotic by nature, Demons have a wild combat behaviour and erratic tactics."

So yes, I think we might just see a unit like that.

Too funny. So many times I bring up something and H4 pops up. My Son steered me away from it so I never played it. The reviews still tend towards the not-so-good. Did you like it?

How did they give the creature options? Can you give a brief detailed explanation

Make a great day/map, Markkur

What about the hero classes? Why don't you share here what the might and magic class must be called for each of your proposed factions? I myself prefer clear, accurate, good-sounding, ONE-word class names. Here I go:

HAVEN
Might hero - Champion
Magic hero - Paladin

INFERNO
Might hero - Outcast
Magic hero - Heretic

NECROPOLIS
Might hero - Duke
Magic hero - Necromancer

ACADEMY
Might hero - Alchemist
Magic hero - Wizard

DUNGEON
Might hero - Overlord
Magic hero - Warlock

SYLVAN
Might hero - Ranger
Magic hero - Druid

STRONGHOLD
Might hero - Barbarian

As usual, only summaries from previous Heroes games from me, with some minor new addons

Changed it up a bit to either be my suggestion, or, the confirmed class.
We so far have 3 confirmed classes.

HOWEVER this is utterly off topic, as this is the CREATURES THREAD.
Still yeah, something like that.
